RPM question...
If I have the POSIX acl support complied into my system, will installing the rpm detect this and install acl support with the samba 2.2.2 rpm for redhat? Any ideas would be great. If this is not possible, I will compile. But it would be nice to know if this is true. Thanks gang. Wade Winright "Open the pod bay doors HAL!!!" -Arthur C. Refresh Script...
Not to many days ago, somebody posted a "refresh" script that I believe allowed you to refresh samba without dropping currently connected users. If this is correct, could someone repost please? I seem to have misplaced my copy and now need it fairly bad. Thanks, Wade Winright "Build a better mantrap, and the rats will beat a path to your door..." -Neil Fallon

Printer fiasco...
OK, First, thanks for all of the help recently. I appreciate it. But...I have just implemented the cvs code as to be able to use the 'use client driver' option because win nt/2k machines have been seeing an 'Access denied, unable to connect' error for the print queues and this will apparently fix this. I will describe my setup and what I have done thus far: RH 7.1 Samba 2_2 cvs

File transfer speed issue
Hi all, I have aproblem with Samba copying (unfortunatly I'm new to samba so my skills are fairly limited). I have a sun box (solaris 8) with samba 2.2.2. Copying from sun to a nt server is fast (as good as you would expect) however, copying from the nt server to the sun box is slow (files copy normally, then slow to a complete halt then copy very slowly). We cannot see anything on a

Controlling share create permissions
Is it possible to set default create permissions on certain directories within a share? ie. Create files in the share [something] /folder1/ as 744 but in /folder1/subfolder/ as 777. I thought of creating two shares and having the users manually go into the other share to save thier files, but confusion ensued. Thanks for any help! Ryan

Newbie (groan... !) Client Problem
I've studied the books, searched the list archives, etc. I suspect there is someone who can just tell me one thing to tweek, so I humbly beg your advice. Situation: I am playing with/learning Linux, intending to replace our two company Netware servers sometime in the next 6 months. At home, I have an NT4.0/SPC PDC, an NT4.0/SP6 docked laptop, and an HP server with RH7.1 or 7.2 (2.4.??

Linux as a workstation client
I'm exploring the idea of using Linux as a workstation OS for some of the users where I work. Most of the issues I've looked at seem resolvable, but I keep running into one sticking point. We rely heavily on shared folders on our Samba server, using ACLs to restrict things on a departmental basis. What I'd need is a way to mount these folders with the permissions of the current

Or I will need to buy some REHL licenses ? I'll put my hands on it only next

ZFS Support for remote mirroring
Does ZFS support any type of remote mirroring? It seems at present my only two options to achieve this would be Sun Cluster or Availability Suite. I thought that this functionality was in the works, but I haven''t heard anything lately. Thanks! Ocfs and EMC Powerpath
A couple years ago, we moved to Oracle RAC on Linux using ocfs that is SAN attached to an EMC CLARiiON. At the time, there was a reason that we did NOT use EMC's Powerpath (I just can't recall what that reason was). What I'd like to know is if there are any issues with introducing Powerpath now. * RHEL 2.1 AS * 2.4.9-e.38enterprise * ocfs-2.4.9-e-enterprise-1.0.13-1 * EMC

SMB_COM_QUERY_INFORMATION_DISK deprecation effects
One of our customers uses EMC SAN disks. Newer EMC software no longer supports the SMB_COM_QUERY_INFORMATION_DISK command. It was deprecated by Microsoft. Our SMB scanning no longer works from earlier devices running smbclient 3.0.37. EMC is going to re-enable the command for a few months but they want us to move to newer commands. Is this actually deprecated in the SMB world ? Can someone
