Performance Benchmarks. Not good.
ok... in my last post to the list, I noted on how our company has given samba a go for it's main file server, and that performance was very poor. I'm in a last attempt to try and save the samba/linux box from being replaced by a Win2k server. Below is the waiting time (including Excel opening time) for one document. The document is 22,016 bytes in size, and a native Excel 2000 format.

Xen Version update policy
The latest bunch of test packages are available here: http://au1.mirror.crc.id.au/repo/el8/x86_64/ Hopefully, as of a few hours ago, this set should actually install. Currently, networking won't work as they require brctl - which isn't in EL8. I've written patches for this, but they'll probably end up being part of a cleanup of everything in /etc/xen/scripts/ Problem is,

Random procmail filter failures.
Hi all, I'm seeing a random issue with my procmail filters (only on email from this list) where once every so often, it will fail to filter a message. I am sorting by the to/cc email address, and this rule works on 99.9% of posts, however every now and again, I see something like this happen: From centos-bounces at centos.org Sat Jan 5 01:57:28 2008 Subject: Re: [CentOS]

flex package marked as fc6 and no flex-devel?
Hi all, I'm in the middle of setting up a build environment for OpenWRT and it looks like the packages need flex. Looking at the CentOS repositories, it looks as though the flex package is tagged as fc6 - it also looks like there is no flex-devel package at all. Does anyone know what the go is here? Packaging Xen 4.2.0
Hi all, I''m trying to update my RPMs of 4.1.3 to work with 4.2.0, but I''m having some interesting problems with the packaging side of things. in 4.1.3, xenpaging was being built as /usr/sbin/xenpaging, however in 4.2.0 it is being built as /usr/lib/xen/bin/xenpaging. I''m currently using the following configure options in my .spec: ./configure --libdir=/%{_libdir}

Delays opening Excel/Word files off samba shares.
At my work, I've been pushing linux as a server solution for quite some time. They've decided to give it a go, and the main company file server is now a piii 933 with 512Mb RAM, a promise 6 channel RAID5 controller (IDE), and 6 x 80Gb drives. It's running RedHat 7.1 (with the usual kernel updates to 2.4.10), with samba 2.2.1a and the latest Reiser FS... Now at the moment, we

Issues with r8169 gige on boot.
Hi all, I've recently upgraded a system from CentOS 4.4 to CentOS5, and now when the system boots, the r8169 ethernet card doesn't come up. After the boot sequence, if I type "ifup eth1 | ifup eth1.10 | ifup eth1.203" then the adapter starts up ok. It seems to be something with the boot sequence it loads the ethernet adapters a different way around (ie 4.4 eth0 is now

Filter a matrix with a matrix HELP!
Hi, just during these vacation days, I'm trying to approach with multicore package and I have some troubles with foreach. What I'm trying to do is to extract a data in coordinate (ii,jj) from a matrix2, only if the data in the same coordinate in matrix1 is ==1. Make this with a nested "for" take a lot of time because I have thousand of values. ex. Binary_hex = NULL

As in this case/example, the result should appear like this (as below). The result of this differentiation should also be in matrix

rownames cannot allocate vector of size
Hi, On R 2.10.1 for Windows, when I do the following to duplicate the structure of a large numeric matrix called matrix1: matrix2 <- matrix(0,nrow=nrow(matrix1),ncol=ncol(matrix1)) and then rownames(matrix2) <- rownames(matrix1) I get a "cannot allocate vector of size xxMb" error but if I instead do: rnames <- list() rnames <- rownames(matrix1) matrix2 <-

matrix() Help
I have a question related to matrix(). The code below randomly generates 3 Poisson numbers into a 3 by 1 matrix: > matrix1 <- matrix(rpois(3,lambda=2),nrow=3,ncol=1) And I use list() to see what they are: [,1] [1,] 3 [2,] 1 [3,] 4 , which is what I had intended. I then I want to randomly generate y Normal numbers into a 3 by 8 matrix. y in this case would be 3, 1, and 4; so

reordering materix presentation in heatmap.2 in the 'gplots' library

Both matrices have the same row and column names For the first matrix I'm using the default clustering and column denrogram options: heatmap.2(Matrix1, symm=T, breaks=20, col=rich.colors(19), main="matrix1", density.info="histogram",
