Can't reset password from windows 2000, or from the samba pdc. Error from samba pdc: machine 127.0.0.1 rejected the password change: Error was : RAP86: The specified password is invalid.
I have a samba pdc running 3.0.4. I have users
logging into the profile server and wanting to change
there password. However when they try to change the
password it asks them for the old and new password but
says they do not have permission to change the
password. I can change the password for them when I
log into the pdc as root but when I try to do it as
user it gives the error:

Salim,
Yes I do have permission to run the passwd command as
a local user, I can change the unix password just
fine. It is when I do the smbpasswd command that that
error comes up. Thanks for looking at this!

Changing Password on LDAP PDC with external script returns 'username or old password is incorrect'
Greetings list! My issue:
Samba version : 3.4.5
OS : Ubuntu Karmic
I have Samba configured as a PDC with an LDAP (OpenLDAP with smbldap
tools) backend.
We have our PDC set up (with smbldap-tools) to expire passwords every 45
days. For quite some time this worked very well. Recently though, two
things have happened that have changed our situation.

CentOS 4.4 (Red Hat Enterprise) with an LDAP backend. I have the
smbldap-tools scripts installed and have them setup in my smb.conf (see

Unable to change password from win2k with a samba pdc
Howdy I've searched mailing lists and have not found anyone with the same
problem (as far as I can tell).
I've setup a samba pdc (samba-2.2.7-2 rpm for RedHat 8.0) following the
instructions on the samba PDC HOWTO:
http://us3.samba.org/samba/ftp/docs/htmldocs/Samba-PDC-HOWTO.html
I've successfully setup the samba PDC and have joined a test client running
win2k to a domain called

Password Change from Windows machines ("You do not have permission to change your password")
Hello,
I just wasted several hours trying to figure out why I could not
change Samba passwords from Windows XP computers. I'm posting here so
that there is some form of documentation about this on the web.
My setup is basically this:
- Samba 3.3.2 (running under Ubuntu 9.04)
- OpenLDAP user database
- Full O.S. support for OpenLDAP auth, using nsswitch and PAM.

same results with our AIX 4.3.3. It seems the samba redirection of stdout
and stdin (which seems to work with most unix platforms) does not work with
AIX. I detected similar problems with redirection from java.
I have created a patch for samba 2.2.2 to directly change the AIX password
(using AIX-routines getuserpw and setuserpw). I think it will also work
with 2.2.3a. Its not yet published on my

Password Chat/Sync problems with 3.0.23
Hi,
Following an upgrade to 3.0.23, it appears that my UNIX password
sync/chat is no longer working (although I can't confirm it wasn't
broken in 3.0.21, it was working before). The XP clients throw up a "no
permission to change password" error when the users attempt to renew
passwords. I've carefully checked my password chat script and it
appears to be OK. The logs

Windows 9X samba Password Change
What is the preferred method of letting Win9X users changes their password?
I Have the necessary settings on smb.conf (passwd chat, ect.) but still
can't seem to get it to work properly.
And trust me, if I upgrade the Win OS's, itll cause more confusion then
needed.
