Force user
Hello list The Samba Howto Collection repeatedly asserts that by setting the sticky bit on directories any files created in those directories will be created with the owner set to that of the directory (for example, see http://samba.mirror.ac.uk/samba/docs/man/howto/AccessControls.html#id2541262). This has never worked for me. Files created inherit the group of the directory, but not the owner.

Deliver question
Hi, I searched whole 2007-2008 mailing lists for answer but couldn\'t find. I think it\'s easier and quicker to ask here. Suppose I have a message saved in file /tmp/afile. How can I tell deliver to deliver it to user\'s abc at domain.com mail box SPAM? I tried two following ways but no success: 1. more /tmp/afile | deliver -d abc at domain.com -m SPAM 2. deliver -d abc at

Dear all, in the past I have been able to access websites with data directly. For example the following code works nicely mydata <- read.table("http://www.lifetable.de/data/MPIDR/POL_2004.txt", header=TRUE) But what happens if I need a username and password (a different site)? hosting library (ie. PVCS) on Samba
Hello. I believe that I've done my due diligence in researching what info. is currently available on this issue. I have been jacking with this for days, & believe that I have tried all possible solutions. I am basically trying to move a [Merant] PVCS installation from an OS/2 file server to a SuSE/Samba file server. This installation consists of 'standard' source archives,

Sweave vignettes and bitmap on windows
During vignette generation on Windows, Sweave seems to clean up before all graphics files are completely processed. For instance, if tmp.Rnw is: \documentclass[12pt]{article} \begin{document} <<>>= bitmap("afile.png") plot(1:100) dev.off() @ \end{document} Then: C:\R\tmp>R CMD Sweave tmp.Rnw Writing to file tmp.tex Processing code chunks ... 1 : echo term verbatim

chmod sftp command and setgid/setuid bit
Hi OpenSSH developers, I'm using OpenSSH on a daily basis and I'm very pleased with the work you've done. I am contributing to some Open Source software hosted at Savannah https://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/tsp and we recently hit some sftp unexpected behavior: https://savannah.gnu.org/support/?105838 when using chmod sftp client command it appears that setuid / setgid bits are

Win2K Printer "Access Denied" Error
Hello, I have a new RH 7.2 installation (kernel 2.4.7-10) with Samba 2.2.1a and I can't print from my Win2K box. I get an "Access denied: unable to connect" error from the printer entry in Windows. The logs don't seem to be helping me. Here's my smb.conf file: [global] workgroup = MYGROUP server string = Samba SMB Server interfaces = 192.168.1.1/24 127.0.0.1/24 hosts

WinXP clients connect slowly to Samba
Folks, Haven't been able to find any information on either issue. 1) We have Windows clients (primarily NT4sp6a and WinXP sp1) connecting to Samba servers, and it works fine but the connections are slow. They take 5-10 seconds whereas connections to native Windows servers are nearly instant. 2) The WinXP machines seem to disconnect the SMB session to the Samba servers ASAP rather than

File permissions issue: different behavior between samba and unix
I'm seeing behavior that I was hoping somebody could explain. I have a share set up that will be a repository for company-wide data. There are three classes of people who can access it, readers, read/writers, and admins. Readers and read/writers are self explanatory, admins have read/write access, and can change the permissions/ownership of files. Read and write access is controlled by

how to use conditional statements to handle exceptions?

Could someone tell me how to handle this exception? Thanks

Tools for data preparation?
Hello list, I'm regularly in the position where I have to do a lot of data manipulation, in order to get the data I have into a format R is happy with. This manipulation would generally be in one of two forms: - getting data from e.g. text log files into a tabular format - extracting sensible sample data from a very large data set (i.e. too large for R to handle) In general, I use Perl or

some permissions issues
I?m facing some troubles with file / directory permissions... I log on the domain as admin user(root), and theres a pub share, on witch everyone needs to have permission to create / modify files, but when I change or create a file, only root can change the file, no one else. And then i need to go to server to chgrp users * -R and chown nobody * -R to allow others users to change the file.
