IMAP instead of Maildir on Ubuntu Precise
Why is dovecot using Maildir and not IMAP. Or is it using even using Maildir at all? Currently I'm using mailman, postfix and dovecot to manage a mailing list. Mail is sent to thufir at dur.bounceme.net which the "mail server delivery agent stack provided by Ubuntu server team" of dovecot-postfix handles fine, keeping it locally, so far as it goes. The mail ends up in

Balsa problem
Wondering if anyone here has built Balsa for Centos-7. I've used it on Centos 5 and 6 for years, though I had to compile it myself. It compiles cleanly on c7, but when run I keep getting error messages that say "Failure to sync mailbox xxxx" that seem to happen when I try to view a mailbox that has new/unread mail, or perhaps it happens when a mailbox receives new mail whilei Balsa

Samba logging behavior on new files
Hi list, I have home made program, which uses File Alteration Monitor library to watch samba log files for new file creation in samba share directory. This technique works fine when I use GNU/Linux machine as client and it fails when I use Windows machine as client. The cause of failure is, samba server creates different pattern of logs and sometimes it does not create log entries on new file

Bug in fts (solr?, Maildir?) incorrect last_indexed_uid
Hi, I thought I should document this. (Dovecot 2.2.9, see config at bottom.) I installed dovecot and then converted a number of mbox mailboxes to Maildir, and had a number of pre-existing Maildir mailboxes. I then installed the debian (wheezy) fts-solar and jetty packages, and tested my inbox using the "telnet localhost imap ... 3 SEARCH text "test" method as described on the

X11 problem with remote login via SSH
HI all! Strange problem that began occurring in last few weeks. Centos 5.4, up to date. I sometimes log in remotely via ssh using "ssh -X" and read mail via mutt. Now and then I want to use balsa instead. This has always worked (for years) though it's kinda slow... but in the last few weeks it has begun failing and spewing errors like this, repeatedly, apparently forever until I

isync with dovecot
Hi folks, I use isync, an IMAP sync tool (Debian package isync 0.9.2-2) together with dovecot (dovecot-imapd 0.99.10.8-0.backports.org.1). Everytime when isync wants to upload a new mail from the client to the server I got messages like this: Mailbox outbox Selecting IMAP mailbox... >>> 16 SELECT "outbox" * FLAGS (\Answered \Flagged \Deleted \Seen \Draft) * OK [PERMANENTFLAGS

Dovecot -- basic setup
Hey all, After some kind soul made me understand what I can expect from Dovecot, I feel really embarassed for not being able to set it up correctly. What I already had was ~/Mail, containing about six maildirs. Exim got mail, delivered it to procmail, and procmail dropped it in my inbox; a needless extra step that I keep for future, ehm, needs that I might start to care about when I can just

What is the recommended way to delete a message from a mailbox ?
Hi, I'm implementing a shell-script (pseudo) solution to the missing IMAP Outbox feature in Dovecot (Courier IMAP feature http://www.inter7.com/courierimap/INSTALL.html#imapsend) In order to remove the message from the Outbox once it is sent I have a question: What is the recommended way to delete a message from a mailbox (from an "external" server side program - such as a shell

[ANNOUNCE] libX11 1.1.5
Hi, This is just an i18n and bugfix release, essentially. Most of the fixes bar James's most recent ones have been in 1.1 branch for a while, and the rest were just cherry-picked from master. Per discussion on ajax with IRC, this is targeted at 7.4, so I've bumped the archive and wiki both. Adam Jackson (1): Bug #15884: Remove useless sleep()'s from the connection code. Alan

Samba 3.0.2a and smbfs (2.4.21) sometimes missing files (CRITICAL BUG)
Hello, I'm using the newest Samba 3.0.2a and smbfs which comes in 2.4.21 kernel. Sometimes or actually always when I copy, rsync or even list files from a share which resides on NT4 server all the files don't show up (only in directories which have lots of files >1000 files..) First I noticed this when I was rsyncing a "mirror" of this share to an another machine and rsync

Mobile phone client - first access
Ladies and gentlemen, good morning! With my first post to the list, may I begin by saying how impressed I have been by Dovecot's performance on our Debian server. We've configured it to run with Exim and Fetchmail, using Dovecot to manage professional and domestic emails for a small home office, serving a number of Windows and Linux clients both on the internal network and, when
