Printer question: Generic postscript from windows
I have a lexmark Z53 attached to a linux samba server. My native windows
clients and my linux clients (thanks to linux support from lexmark) can
print to it with no problem.
However, when I use windows over win4lin, the drivers don't install. They
always fail with a spool32 error.
This happens with the lexmark z32 also.
I have no trouble installing other printers from the large list that comes

filesystems on the win98 box //LARRY. Such as smbclient //LARRY/AU. and
the also the printer //LARRY/ML1210 (my samsung printer.) But when

Win98/HP Printer problem. Partially Solved.
I set up a print/fax server here using RH Linux 6.0, and Samba 2.0.3. The
printer is an old (but still very reliable) HP Laserjet 4. Printing from
the Linux box using lpr works fine. However, whenever someone tries to
print from a Windows98 box through SAMBA, there is an extra page printed
on the end. This gets really annoying to the users, more so because the
extra pages cannot be put back into

Slightly OT? - How do I set up Win98 to access a printer on my CentOS box?
I have a WinXP guest under VMWare on my CentOS 5.1 host and it can
access the CentOS printer(s) just fine.
However, I also have a Win98 box on the LAN that I would like to be
able to print on the CentOS printer. When I try to connect to the
printer, Win98 tells me that it can't find the network...?
Any suggestions?
(This "slightly" really is - it _is_ directly related to CentOS,

Printer: User Intervention Required - Use Printer Offline
For some reason, I cannot get samba (or Win98, depending on how you look
at it...) to allow a win98 client to print.
I search the list archives, but I didn't find anything similar. So here
goes.
Symptoms:
- Win98 client can access fileshares OK. The printers show up OK as well
  in network neighbourhood.
- On Linux, printing (lprng) works OK.
- In win98, e.g.

Win98 ==> Samba printing problem
Using SAmba 3.0.2 and Cups 1.1.17.
How does one configure a W98 box to print to a samba shared printer?
Per my previous postings I can't figure it out, and the methods I've
used on older Sambas don't work.
I've been thru the lengthy discussion in the samba with cups documentation,
which tells how to do it for NT or later, but not 9x.
I've posted the smb.conf before,

Samba Printer Accounting
Howdy,
I'm looking for a piece of software I can use for accounting printers shared
on a Linux box via Samba, to Win98/2K/XP machines on a domain. In other
words, I want to be able to give user a print quota (say, $3.00), then charge
them 10c per page they print from a Windows client to a printer shared from a
Linux box running Samba. If they're out of quota, it doesn't print

Configuring printer drivers
Hi,
I've been running a samba server for our small group of users (about 15) for
approx the last 18 months with great success. We use the server for both file
and printer sharing.
I had to make some modifications to the printer configuration today, and I've
got a quick question which arose from my tinkering.
I wanted to configure the server such that each of our printers can be used

two printers: one works ok in w9x/2k, other printer unavailable in Win98 BUT ok in w2k!
Hi all,
I try to explain my strange Samba problem: I've done a linuxbox with
Mandrake 8.2 distro; installed Samba 2.2 packages and two printers attached
via parallel port: one works with the motherboard built-in parallel port,
the other is connected via a pci parallel port card. Both works fine on
win2000 clients (and on the linuxbox, too :); on windows 98 clients, both
printers are

No printer status on Win2K client; Win98 and Linux clients are OK
My Win98(SE) Samba clients can query the Samba-exported printer status,
but Win2K(SP3) clients cannot. Both clients can actually print
documents.
I am running Samba v2.2.3a on a Linux (Red Hat v7.3) system. This server
makes 2 printers (via a LPR subsystem) and several shared directories
available to our Linux, Win98 and Win2K (soon to be WinXP also) clients.
From a Win98 client, print

No print to Samba (Linux) printer from Win98
I'm stuck.
I have Samba running on my Red Hat 7.2 Linux box. I can mount by remote dirctory
on the Linux box via Samba. But I can't print to the Linux printer. I have a
Linux printer installed and I can print to it using lpr. I have a printer
configured in Samba and can see that from the Win98SE box. I've clicked on the
Samba printer name and configured a Win98 printer.

Samba's Printer Going Off-Line (after a Win98 Machine speaks to it)
Hi,
I have a light firewall machine that also acts as a Samba print
server for a Win32 host on my intranet. For some reason, if the Win98
machine hasn't printed for an extended length of time, the printer
goes off-line. When the Win32 tries to print, the printer throws an
error and we have to unplug the printer and then plug it back in. It
then tries to finish the print job which

I'm having problem with printing from win98 to my printer which is connected
to my Red Hat machine. I can see lp from Network Neighbourhood and printer
is set up as \\REDHATMACHINE\lp
however nothing would come out of the printer. Windows doesn't give
any error message.
My Red Hat machine prints fine however. I've included a portion of

Samba, Cups, printer driver download problems
I have Samba 2.2.6 complied against Cups 1.1.16 on a Sparc system running
Solaris 9. Cups has replaced the stock system V lp spooler on this system
(original packages removed.)
Cups working from UNIX command line is A-OK.
I have been working on setting up Samba to play nice with cups. I have
followed the instructions from both the Cups and Samba websites to set up
downloading of the
