I have been messing with this and it seems to work, but I would like to hear if it does or not from the people that have created it. On a WindowsNT machine I have three directories shared out READONLY. These three directories are mapped to users machines and then they run programs out of them. There are ALWAYS people using files in here. At times I have to update the programs in there and I

Possibly a security flaw...
A summary of my problem, I had wrong UIDs for a user (eg pmal) between the /etc/passwd file and the smbpasswd file. When I was trying to loggin from a couple of machines running either win nt or win 98 I was reading in the log files that the loggin could not be completed because the UID were wrong but there were instances were I could loggin from another computer with the same username. I really

winbindd logon still requires Unix user id
I'm running Samba 3.0.2a (UCLA binaries) on AIX 5.2. The net command worked fine and joined a win 2k domain. The wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g work great. However, all connections fail unless the user id exists on the AIX machine. I can bypass the problem by using username map and a dummy account "bozo". Here's a section of the Configuration # Samba config file created using SWAT

RSAT Hang
Hi Gregory, On the questions. > Is there a good reason to avoid Samba internal DNS? No, imo not, but i only use bind9_dlz because i need bind in my lan for other setups also. I just used my RSAT on my win7 64b, but at my point it works fine. I do have questions to get a better impression of the setup. Whats the os your using with RSAT and did u use DOM\Administrator or an other account?

idmap question
Hai Mathias, Type: wbinfo --all-domains You should see 3 domainnames. BUILTIN => idmap config * HOSTNAME => ? Dont know where this one maps to. NTDOM => idmap config NTDOM I use for example ( for debian ) the following. I use this as followed. ## map id's outside to NT domain to tdb files. idmap config *: backend = tdb idmap config *: range = 2000-2999 ##

Samba3 Trust Relationships?
Hey all, After setting up a migration server (a server which will act as a test for a Samba 3.x environment), so we can make sure our migration from Samba 2.2.x to 3.x goes as smoothly as possible, I've hit upon a problem, now I am not sure whether this is the fault of Samba (my configuration) or NT4 or whether this is infact designed behaviour for both/either servers. I'd like to

security = ads parameter not working in samba 4.9.5
Hai, Please read : https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_Samba_as_a_Domain_Member And adjust your smb.conf, start with a minimal smb.conf then join and then add optional extra settings. You current config is incomplete. I suggest you carefully read this chapter.: Choose backend for id mapping in winbindd > Host is not configured as a member server. > Invalid configuration.
