I know in some ways the answer is RTFM, but I'm not even sure which docs to
read or where they are.
I've posted about my printing problem before (Win2k SP2 won't print to my
Linux server printer), and even though I've had some suggestions, nothing
has worked (after a solid week of trying combinations in smb.conf, I'm
close to having to drop Linux and go to a complete

PDC & Pringing on Samba 2.2.2 -- Does PDC use effect printing?
I've described printer problems with 2.2.2 & Win2k SP2 in an earlier message.
At one point, using an earlier version of Samba, on an earlier install, the
printing worked just fine. Does using Samba as a PDC for logons from Win2k
boxes do anything to effect the use of printers and print shares? Or are
the two completely separate and have no interaction or effect on each other?

Sharing files/directories with colons in name
Hail SAMBA folks,
I'm having a little difficulty trying to share files and directories that
contain a colon in the filename. With a fairly simple configuration,
everything works as expected sans the colon problem.
On the client end (in my case, Windows 2000 SP2) I get somewhat
unpredictable behaviour. In every case the file (or directory) name gets
mangled in an unfriendly way. For

Problem with printer driver sharing Win2k klients.
Hi...
I got this new server at work that I have to get 100% up and running by
tomorrow.
It's running Samba 2.2.1a on SuSE 7.3 Pro
It's supposed to be VPN - File and Printer Server
The printers are:
One OCE 700C / CS90 color copier and One OCE 3165
And there is only one problem left.
I can install the printer drivers for Win9x & NT on the samba server.
But I can't figure out how to

win2k joining Samba 2.2.2 PDC problems.
I'm running FreeBSD 4.4, with Samba 2.2.2 freshly installed, with
the FreeBSD Ports package to install files in correct places.
I've a Win2k system tring to join the domain "FREESIDE"
It will authenticate ok from the win2k command line.
"net use x: \\crypton\homes /USER:FREESIDE\jerry"
It seems to work ok during the first part of joining a domain, i.e.

Printer shows up before it is defined!
This may be a glitch/bug/feature unto itself, or it may relate to the
problem I've been having with getting Win2k SP2 to print to a printer on Samba.
I have just created a new, clean install of Mandrake 8.1. Then I updated
CUPS from 1.1.10 to 1.1.11. I updated Gimp-print from 4.1.99b2 to
4.2.0. I am using Samba 2.2.1a, directly from the Mandrake 8.1
install. The printer is an Epson

Hello Family,
[day 2.5]
Well, thanks to "Gerald (Jerry) Carter" there has been progress in
attempting to print from my Windows2000 machine to my Linux machine
running 2.2.2 to an Epson777 inkjet printer on the LAN with a mini
print-server on the back of it.
I've now got no more RED "access denied" warnings in my Win2k
printer setup screen, there is a GREEN "Status:

Performance problem with combination Samba / Windows 98 Explorer
Dear reader,
A few days ago I have installed Suse Linux 7.1 with Samba. Soon I was able
to connect from a windows 98 workstation to the linux machine using samba.
After testing I found that the server was functioning great, however when I
copy files to the samba share using the windows explorer the performance is
about 25% of the performance I get when I copy the same files to the same
share

Fw: mkgroup -d failed with error 1332 (LookupAccountName)
Yes the machine I'm running this from is a member of the Domain. Mkpasswd
works just great, mkgroup doesn't.
Has anyone else seen this problem or know what the problem could be?

printer status says, "Access denied" from win2k
But it prints fine. In the printer window, under the status column, my
samba printers read:
Access denied, unable to connect
Yet when I print to them they print fine. This is minor irritation, but
I'd like to get it resolved. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Windows ME / 2K / XP Printing.
Hi,
Our department has succesfully been using samba as a print server for a
host of 95/98/NT4 boxes for some time now.
However, we're recently started to introduce ME / 2k / XP machines and
are having problems.
Basically, under ME, 2k and XP after adding a printer as a network
printer, I recieve an error message along the lines of 'Unable to
Connect to print queue' , 'Unable to
