Printing to shared printer using a Mac (OSX)
I am using Mandrake 10 as a file and print server on for my home network. All
of my PC clients can print successfully to the epson stylus c60 that I have
attached to the printer. My Mac, using OS X (10.3) cannot. It says that it
cannot find the printer .. Is there a special setting that I must use in
the smb.conf file?

Win2k Printing Problem
I have a problem with Windows 2000 (SP2) printing to an Epson C60 on a
Linux server (running Mandrake 8.1 and Samba 2.2.2 with Cups 1.1.12). I've
scoured the net and posts on Usenet have not yielded any helpful response.
I have 2 Win2k boxes and they both respond differently, but neither is
printing. I've installed the printer on both boxes. On one I get a

Problem with printer driver sharing Win2k klients.
Hi...
I got this new server at work that I have to get 100% up and running by
tomorrow.
It's running Samba 2.2.1a on SuSE 7.3 Pro
It's supposed to be VPN - File and Printer Server
The printers are:
One OCE 700C / CS90 color copier and One OCE 3165
And there is only one problem left.
I can install the printer drivers for Win9x & NT on the samba server.
But I can't figure out how to

Printer prints, but reports opening
We have a samba 2.2.3a-12.3 for Debian running, and something odd in

We use CUPs as linux print server. When we print from a w2k station,
prints come out the printer, but the printer window reports a cycle of

I know in some ways the answer is RTFM, but I'm not even sure which docs to
read or where they are.
I've posted about my printing problem before (Win2k SP2 won't print to my
Linux server printer), and even though I've had some suggestions, nothing
has worked (after a solid week of trying combinations in smb.conf, I'm

windows printer queue display fails
I am driving a Suse 8.2 linux with cups 1.1.18 and samba 2.2.7a.
The problem:
The host serves several printers via cups. If some jobs are in one of
the queues "lpq -Pprinter" or "lpstat -o printer" shows up the complete
listing. Fine.
Connected to the same print queue from a Windows (XP/NT/98/2k) box I
cannot see the complete listing. Sometimes I see some of the jobs, most

PDC & Pringing on Samba 2.2.2 -- Does PDC use effect printing?
I've described printer problems with 2.2.2 & Win2k SP2 in an earlier message.
At one point, using an earlier version of Samba, on an earlier install, the
printing worked just fine. Does using Samba as a PDC for logons from Win2k
boxes do anything to effect the use of printers and print shares? Or are
the two completely separate and have no interaction or effect on each other?

CVS and SAMBA UPDATE
Hi
Can somebody tell me how to use cvs to check for patches. Are the patches
packaged as RPM for linux or do I have to figure out how to install them
which i don't know how to do. You see my winbindd keeps crashing and i
probably need to patch it up. Also when I try to move files from windows to
samba, sometimes I receive this errors "file path is too deep". Please

Strange unexplainable CUPS problem after upgrade to 5.10
I manage a bunch of workstations at the Wendell Free Library. They are all
diskless, boot via PXE and mount all of their file systems via NFS from a
server. All of the machines are 32-bit and run CentOS (fully up-to-date
running 5.10). There are two printers with queues managed on the server. The
server 'shares' these printers on the local LAN (eg with all of the
workstations).

Sharing files/directories with colons in name
Hail SAMBA folks,
I'm having a little difficulty trying to share files and directories that
contain a colon in the filename. With a fairly simple configuration,
everything works as expected sans the colon problem.
On the client end (in my case, Windows 2000 SP2) I get somewhat
unpredictable behaviour. In every case the file (or directory) name gets
mangled in an unfriendly way. For

USB printer goes into disconnected state when low-power mode enabled
I've mentioned this before, here, but with a laser printer connected via
the lp0 port.
I have a new laser printer, a Brother HL2140, that normally works just
fine when installed using the CUPS interface per OpenPrinting's
instructions (with one minor modification I had to add because the base
driver without the CUPS installation did not work.
Every so often, which actually appears to be

Printer: User Intervention Required - Use Printer Offline
For some reason, I cannot get samba (or Win98, depending on how you look
at it...) to allow a win98 client to print.
I search the list archives, but I didn't find anything similar. So here
goes.
Symptoms:
- Win98 client can access fileshares OK. The printers show up OK as well
in network neighbourhood.
- On Linux, printing (lprng) works OK.
- In win98, e.g.

Samba printing on Solaris 8
Hi:
I am new to the Samba world and I am having problems with printing. I
have Samba installed on a Solaris 8 server. I can see the Samba shares
and the printer (lasersys) in Windows Explorer. I have installed the
printer on my workstation (NT 4.0) using the Windows 'Add Printer'
wizard. However, when I send a print job to the printer
(Wordpad:File > Print) the job never gets to the

As I mentioned recently I cannot see the cups printer queues from a

correct status.
I tested a litte more and got the following results:

printing = CUPS
printcap name = CUPS
I can see all queue entries in the windows status panel, too --
