Hi everybody, I'm having issues with samba. When I try to see my shares from a Windows 2000 station, I get the following error message: I've checked the log file, I could see that these errors always have to do with the /root/tmp folder, whose permissions I think it is allright: [root@printerserver2 /root]#ls -la ... drwxrw-rw- 2 root root 4096 Feb 9 16:54 tmp/ .. Windows VBSscript and test.sh execution in /tmp/public in AIX 5.3
Hello, I am having a very speific problem with my samba interface. We just migrated to a new IBM pSeries server with AIX 5.3. The older server was a RS6000, with AIX 5.2 and everything I'm about to describe below worked without fail. We have a Windows 2000 Server that runs IIS. There is a web-based program (programmed in VB Script) that calls test.sh AIX script (through samba) on our AIX

Any and all attempts to connect to our samba server, packaged in the redhat RPM found on samba.org, have failed. The allow statement is set to localhost, x.y.z. where x.y.z is our class C(ended with a period, as per the online help in SWAT.) Local connections via smbclient work beautifully, but connections from any other machine fails. I've followed the troubleshooting procedure to the

Greetings Samba gurus, Short: I have some clients that can log into my samba server using the samba servers IP number, but it fails when using the name of the machine. I've tried solving this error for 2 days now, and I'm at a dead end. I'd love some help with this. Long: I have a Fedora Core2 machine with 2 NIC's. One is hooked up to a 192.168.0.X network with an ADS

Users can't change their own password...
Hello, I've recently put Samba into production, and while I do love it, I am having a problem I can not figure out. It comes when a regular user tries to change their password. I have dug through the FAQ's I could find, and also looked through a few trouble shooting sections. Everything they suggest checks out. The server as a whole works great. If I log in as root and change a users

HELP: problem getting Samba to connect - "ERRSRV - ERRinvnetname"?
Dear list readers: I've installed the most recent Samba from source on my Redhat Linux server. The simple file share I've made shows up, the machine pings correctly, and does ftp and apache fine, but won't let anyone login to Samba. For example: $ smbclient '//WWW.PSYCH.UDEL.EDU/SIMPLE/' -U me added interface ip=128.175.41.164 bcast=128.175.41.255 nmask=255.255.255.0

Configuration Problems
Hello all I need some help understanding what is failing with my Samba installation. I compiled Samba 2.0.6 on a Sparc Ultra-II Solaris 2.6, using GCC version 2.8.1. I have read in some of the docs that there may be some support for shadow passwords but could not find a definition regarding shadow in any of the compile scripts. The SMB and NMB processes are running as deamons. I am unable

Samba causing problems with NT tools
Samba is causing a couple huge problems for the NT admins here since we switched a bunch of machines to security=server and started running nmbd. We're running Samba 2.0.2 and 2.0.3 on a mix of Solaris, HP-UX, and OSF1 machines. One, selecting a Samba server in Server Manager, then selecting Computer/ Services causes Server Manager to crash ("An application error has occurred, blah blah,

tree connect failed: ERRSRV - ERRinvnetname (Invalid network name in tree connect.)
Hi all, I have been receiving the error "tree connect failed: ERRSRV - ERRinvnetname (Invalid network name in tree connect.)" for a while and I finally fixed it, but I have some questions about why it was happening. Firstly, it is Samba 2.0.7 running on Mandrake 8.0. My smb.conf file is at the end of this message. The machine's name is pinhead and in checking log.pinhead, I

3.0.10 works only when logged in locally to XP
I have struggled for a week trying to get domain users to map and/or browse Samba shares without entering a password. If I login to the domain with a WinXP client and try to map or browse a Samba share, I get prompted for user/pass. If I then login with a local machine account (same user/pass) it works. This same configuration also works just fine on W2K clients logged into the domain. I am

Windows XP and Samba
We have a local network with Samba 2.0.3 on SuSE-Linux and some Windows 95 and Windows 98 clients. All works fine. Now we have got a new Windows XP computer, and we found no way to connect to the Samba server from that computer. 1. The network card works. I can ping the server, and it replies. 2. The Samba server as well as the Windows XP computer are shown in the network neighbourhood. 3.

NT sends empty username to 3.0a21
Hi, I have samba 3.0a21 running and NT 4.0 WS clients. All workstations were previously in Samba 2.2 domain , so now I upgraded to samba 3.0a22 and just changed domain name (workstation = XXX) and rejoined workstations by changing domain name in every WS. To look at the log it seems like NT WS sends empty username? *** ldapsam_search_one_user: searching
