Winbind trouble. Wbinfo see's users, "getent passwd" doesn't
I'm trying to set up a new fileshare, to replace an aging NT4 machine we've
been using for far too long.
I'd like to run Linux (RedHat 7.3) on the machine.
Basically, I'm trying to create a fileshare "files" that people can
transparently log in to from NT4 and Windows 2000 workstations. My boss has
approved the use of Linux for the server, but only if I can make it

Winbind/RH7.1...More Help
The winbind now works...my getent passwd & groups returns the domain
users/groups
What should be the next step? my clients (Win2K & Win9x) are still
prompting for a password and I cannot login to my linux box using
DOMAIN*domainuser.
Must I add each domain user as a user on the linux box?

winbindd ?'s
Am I correct in my understanding that with winbindd (and PAM), I am able to
authenticate PAM aware apps against an NT 4 domain with no passwd entries?
If so, how would one get ssh working with this? I've followed the winbindd
how-to and haven't been able to ssh into the box with winbindd using an
account that only resides in the domain (i.e. isn't in the passwd file).

CVS over SSH
Hi there
I'm running a samba cvs server in a windows domain with a W2K PDC. I want to authenticate windows users through ssh. I'm able to login with a windows user to the server on the server himself but when I want to login via a windows client It doesn't work. The connection is refused. Could it be something mis configured in my ssh pam module.
This is my pam ssh module

Authenticating against a Windows 2000 DC?
I apologize in advance if this is a FAQ, but I couldn't find the FAQ document for this list. I also could not find anything relevant in other Samba documentation sources like http://hr.uoregon.edu/davidrl/samba.html.
There seems to be plenty of information about using Samba *as* a DC, but I want to know if I can use Samba *with* a Windows 2000 DC. We have two DCs running Windows 2000, a W2K

Winbind, RedHat 7.1, Pam 0.74-22 ohh so close to working
Hello,
I have gone through the howto provided but I am not yet able to
logon to my linux box using NT4 domain accounts. I can however authenticate
to restricted shares and I can obtain groups and users via "getent" and
"wbinfo -u". All I really need now is a working /etc/pam.d/login. I've tried
examples from the howto as with others from the mailing list but I can not

Please help with winbind setup
I have been (unsuccessfully) trying to get this up and
running for the past few days. I have successfully
setup samba itself NUMEROUS times but this winbind
stuff has me stumped.
I have built a fresh box for this server using Turbo
Linux server 6.5 and samba 2.2.2. I have followed all
the docs and man pages that i could find.
1. I have samba compiled (using --with-winbind
--with-pam) and

solaris 10 winbind authentication with ADS
I'm trying to setup a Solaris 10 Sparc station to authenticate users on
login with Windows ADS. I have found the documentation for this but
having no luck in getting the pam modules to work. Here is what I have
done so far:
Compiling Kerberos MIT5-1.8.3:
cd into the src directory
./configure --prefix=/opt/local
gmake
gmake install
Compiling Samba 3.5.6:
setenv CFLAGS "-O2"

winbind - getent passwd
I can't find the thread but someone last week was having trouble with
'getent passwd' not returning the Windows domain users as well as the local
users. 'wbinfo -u' worked but not 'getent passwd'.
I just finished a new server and had the same problem. Turns out I
overlooked the the symbolic links in /lib. The file libnss_winbind.so needs
to have a link to

Samba4 + Winbind + PAM Installation/Configuration
Hello,
Now that I have my Samba4 DC running great on CentOS6.4 I was wondering if somebody could help understand better how to install and configure Samba4 with winbind and PAM.
I used the tutorial here:
This got me through to the point where "Using pam_winbind" starts.

Samba 2.2.8a/winbindd - 2K Domain users password challenged
I have a RedHat Linux 9 server that I would like to allow users in my Windows 2000 domain to be able to map shares from without actually having an account on the system. Compiled samba, configured with "./configure --with-pam". Got the server into the domain, and regular "security = domain" seems to be working appropriately - providing there's a local account with the

Problem with PAM/SSSD/SAMBA4.1.2
Hi
I hope that I am not totally wrong when asking this on a Samba list, but
as I followed a tutorial found at the SAMBA wiki I hope I can find
someone how is able to help me.
My goal is to set up a server acting as a SAMBA AD Server with single
sign on for linux users.
I use a Ubuntu Server 13.10 as the base. On top of this I installed a
SAMBA 4.1.2 from GIT, did provisioning, Kerberos

Samba help for domain user setup (samba 3.x)
How do I interpret what this mean?
@"prfmstrt2+Domain Users"
What is prfmstrt2? Is that a group created in /etc/group? I take it the +
is a winbind seperator. What is the manner of assigning domain users to
have access to a share? Do I still need to create the domain user name in
/etc/passwd, assign it to a group in /etc/group? Do I need to use
smbgroupedit to make the domain

winbind and groups
I've got Samba 2.2.2 and winbind up and running fine
between a TurboLinux server and an NT 4.0 PDC. I can
"chown" files on the linux box fine using "$chown
DOMAIN+username filename" but when i try to change an
objects group using "$chgrp DOMAIN+groupname filename"
i get errors stating that it is an invalid group name.
What's the deal here? None of my group

Back to 3.0.1, Winbind and Solaris 9
I've gone back to 3.0.1 to try and get winbind to work with my Solaris 9
machine and NT4 domain. Everything works except user authentication. The
wbinfo and getent commands do what they are supposed to.
I've included a truss of 'su - ganguly'
According to pamlog, the user 'ganguly' has been granted access but it is
still hanging.
How do I do a truss of a telnet login?

Winbind Problem after Update from 3.0.21b -> 3.0.23b
Hi all,
we're using Winbind on a Solaris 9 machine to authenticate our Users, who
are held in a Windows 2003SP1 AD. We are now using Samba 3.0.21b and everything
works as expected. I configured the nsswitch and installed "libnss_winbind.so"
and "pam_winbind.so" as described in the documentation and winbind is able
to resolve the AD users and groups and the useres are able

winbindd
hi all,
as i heard, i need winbind to connect linux-clients on samba. i installed
this - without pam (in the hope this would work...) but this constellation
seems to be needed, as i still cannot connect, even if winbind logs my
domain as accepted.
Do i really have to do the pam-configuration on the samba-server-side
too?? i just thought, it was enough to authentificate against smbpasswd.
