netbios name resolution stops working after device change
Hi there.
This is with regards to samba-3.0.23c, on FreeBSD 6.0-RELEASE-p12
Previously I had Samba up and running without any problems. Then I
decided to do a tiny upgrade by simply switching to a new motherboard,
while keeping all other hardware and software aspects the same.
However, after the upgrade, netbios name resolution seems to have
stopped working somehow. \\servername lookups no

Netbios over VPN
I am attempting to utilize BackupPC on a Fedora 14 server to backup a remote client.
As I understand, it's primary mechanism for finding clients is performing a nmblookup <clientname>
This works fine for computers connected to the local network.
My issue is extending ?Samba's? search to encompass our other network - the point-to-point VPNs
Using OpenVPN, we have a number of road

SMB/NMBD configuration troubles.
Folks,
I am stumped!
I have followed every tech tip I could find and I am still
unable to complete my SMB installation. Specifically, I fail
Test 4 and Tests 9 and 10. I believe the problem has
something to do with the NMBD configuration. Below are the
parameters of our system.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

No longer able to browse windows share via Nautilus
I used to be able to browse the windows shares on the network through
Nautilus. I can see them as computers, but when I click on them, it
fails. (I'm on Ubuntu 6 LTS, AMD64)
About 3 months ago, this failed. But, the windows boxes can all still
access my shares on my Linux box.
I was going through the trouble shooting, and found this out, but I'm
not sure what to do next.

Winbind without netbios
Hi there,
Im using for long time winbind + squid for my proxy server and it has
been working very good... No problems at all.
Some months ago, I decided to get rid of Netbios protocol and start to
use only dns for name resolution on my domain. That's when my problem
begin.
All my windows servers and workstations are doing fine without netbios

After upgrade to 4.9.4, internal DNS no longer working
Then I don't know what caused it. I had no problems prior to the upgrade,
and the upgrade was done without errors..
Unfortunately, no, I don't have backups. 'sam.ldb' is still there, though,
and so are the databases unter 'sam.ldb.d'.
Yes, I tried restarting Samba, even rebooted the server but to no avail.
Here are the results from running samba in the shell:

Dispelling Myths About Samba Encrypted passwords, NT_STATUS_LOGON _FAILURE and XP
Hi,
I've been using samba for a while now with relatively simple configurations.
I do however have a few questions:
* When using encrypted passwords with samba, is it possible to authenticate
users using the Unix user password(/etc/passwd)?
* When using smbclient I get the error NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE:
added interface ip=192.168.1.1 bcast=192.168.1.255 nmask=255.255.255.0

Samba can't find its hostname via broadcast
Hello.
I'm using Samba 3.0.25a on FreeBSD-6.0. Samba is configured to be a PDC.
Samba can't find its hostname via nmblookup:
$ nmblookup -B 192.168.1.255 frontier
querying frontier on 192.168.1.255
name_query failed to find name frontier
If I query Samba via unicast, it answers OK:
$ nmblookup -U frontier frontier
querying frontier on 192.168.1.31
192.168.1.31 frontier<00>

name server problems: tcpdump shows "tcp port netbios-ssn unreachable"
Ahh, many sleepless nights spent on a stinky Windows 98 box!
I'm using Samba 2.2.0 with Red Hat Linux 7.1, and am having trouble
resolving the samba server. I went through the "fault tree" in the "Using
Samba" book, and this was the section I got stuck on. Do I need to be
running a name server besides nmbd? nmblookup returns some results:

netbios and samba
Hi all
Bear with me on this one...
We have a problem connecting to a specific port via Oracle TNSPING
There are two PC's in our office that are on the same network as the server
(i.e. my desktop PC can not get to the server)
The server has multiple network interfaces, the primary is a gigabit fibre
card on IP xx.16.
The secondary is a megabit card on IP xx.80
The tnsping command fails

nmblookup fails
I'm debugging my Samba setup using the
"Troubleshooting Techniques" from Sam's Teach Yourself
Samba in 24 Hours.
Everything works fine up until the nmbd section. I am
able to do the following correctly:
nmblookup -U 127.0.0.1 __SAMBA__
nmblookup -U 127.0.0.1 POGO (the server)
nmblookup -B 192.168.1.255 WIN-CLIENT (the client)
but when I do nmblookup -B 192.168.1.255

wins: no nmblookup on 192.168.1.255 but 192.168.1.2
Hi,
here is a client computer and a server computer (Debian Wheezy, armel,
samba Version 3.6.6, IP address: 192.168.1.2, Name: xyz).
Problem: wins doesn't answer nmblookups by the client on the broadcast
address:
client$ nmblookup -S xyz
querying xyz on 192.168.1.255
name_query failed to find name xyz
Why is that so? How to fix this?
When I specify the the server IP I do get an answer:

Strange samba problem with Win XP
Hello list,
I don't know what is breaking my samba box but I am really very
worried and confused !! My samba server has no problem with linux
client. "smbclient -L <samba IP> -U <samba user>" runs well. No
problem at all. But whenever I try to access the shares from Win-XP it
reports that "path not found". And after repeatedly trying the same
