Problem with Setting NT user restrictions on files and directories
I don't know if samba will allow this but. I want to set user permissions on directories and files using the accesslist in the properties menu under Windows NT. I don't know if this is possible with Samba. I read something about ACL support but I can't seem to be able to compile it into samba. ./configure --with-acl-support Not sure if the string is correct. Any pointers would be

2k clients
Hello, I have ran into a fairly large problem. When ever i try to join to samba 2.2.5 controlled domain with my win 2k client. It says user does not exist. I checked to see of the machine trust account was setup correctly and it was. Also the username and password i used is a working user because i can logon with my 98 box just fine. Temp files created on read-only share
Hello, All. We have Samba 2.0.7 running on Red Hat 6.2 (up for 351 days!) and have discovered the following anomaly: There is a share called "appsg" that contains a number of folders, including one called OfficeTemplates. The share definition in smb.conf is: [appsg] comment = Apps in Applications path=/home/applications/apps public = No read only =

Unwanted Levels in R
I searched the mailing list archives and found one post relevant to my problem, but it was not specific enough to solve my problem. I am reading in a large file of data (I believe it is in ASCII format). I have tried reading the file in as a data frame and as a list, and both methods result in unwanted levels being created which leads to problems when I try to copy or reference certain cells.

Win2k and Win9x printer drivers from 2.0.7?
Hello, All. Is it possible to have a Samba 2.0.7 server provide printer drivers for both Windows 98 and 2000 clients? I'm currently delivering Win98 drivers with great success, but we're beginning to have Windows 2000 clients on the network and I've been unable to trick Samba 2.0.7 into providing the proper files. Note that the Samba server provides just file and print services;

how to check open connections/files without smbstatus / swat
Hi, I have one user who should be able to _view_ all open files and connections on a samba server. He should not be allowed to login to the server by telnet or ssh to use smbstatus, nore should he be able to use swat as long as he could view the configfile. So my question: is there a way to configure swat for one user to only view the opened connections? Or dose someone has an other idea?

Samba and OS2 changeover
Here is the deal.. My company is currently running all of there file shares on an OS2 box that is attached to our as400. This has caused many problems with the as400 so we are going to move over to using Samba for file storage / network run applications. My question is this. I am planning to "clone" all the shares on our OS2 box with the Samba server that I have created, turn off the

The share will be shown on the other pcs (Windows XP), but they can't open it. The error-message ist "Share not found" on our preferred language of course! SELINUX-CONFIG sh-4.1# cat

username maps and security=ads
I have been having problems with username maps and security=ads. I now have a solution (or at least a work around) that is working for me. I sort of stumbled across it, as I don't recall reading any samba docs that mentions the need to have the realm name in the smbuser file. Samba server is RHEL3 with samba-3.0.20 compiled from source authenticating against a windows ADS. Here is the

Looking for successful implementation of Samba + W2K3 AD
Dear Samba users, I am desperate to know whether there is any successful implementation of Samba 3.0.x as member server of Microsoft Windows 2003 server running Active Directory. I have in production the said architecture and it is giving me all sort of connection problems to SAMBA shares during peak hours when users are numbered as many as 500+ concurrently. When there are only few users,

Why is an extra 'home' dir showing up?
My question is, how come daevid (on XP) sees the following directories: \\linux\dae51d \\linux\homes Shouldn't there just be the home dir only? Why does "\\linux\dae51d" show up (I assume it's b/c that's who I am logged in as on XP which maps to linux)? However, the fact that it does show up, shouldn't it be the actual HOME directory of the linux user account dae51d (as

Adobe Photoshop uses wrong permissions when saving, default ACLs and create mask being ignored.
One of our employees is having an odd problem with Adobe Photoshop. Files he saves with Photoshop are saved with permissions 777, completely ignoring both the create mask and the default ACL for the directory. Files he creates with other programs have the correct permissions. This has me stumped. It appears I can reproduce the problem at will. Client is Windows NT 4.0 SP6a and Adobe Photoshop

Samba 3.0.4 PDC w/ LDAP - XP client
Hello, I am currently trying to set up my Samba 3.0.4 testbox to be a PDC for a MS Windows XP Pro SP1 box. I am using the latest smbldap-tools from IDEALX and I have really REALLY tried to do things right. Followed their manual... I cleaned my setup three times today and started from scratch ... Managed to join my DOMAIN yesterday but right now no chance. Read TOSHARG, OReilly`s "Using
