Some Netbios Name Lookups Exhibit Long Delay
Maybe someone has been through this already and can provide a solution... I don't see anything in my Google searches or in the O'Reilly troubleshooting section. Running 2.2.8a with LDAP on Redhat 9, up to date with all the RHN patches. Samba coordinates browse lists with another Samba box on a remote network (via a VPN). All workstations on both subnets use my local Samba box for WINS,

printer suddenly unavailable
Hi there I have a pretty strange problem that pops up once in a while. Running samba 2.2.7a having installed a Samba machine as password server sharing user info via NIS I have a couple of printers running here at our place. Several of them are only accessible to a select group of people so I defined the concerned printers share as: [PrinterX] valid users = user1, user2, user3 .... ..... Things

Trouble browsing on different nets.
I'm not sure if this even SHOULD work. I can't find anything really useful in the documentation. I have a RedHat 7.3 system in the DMZ of our network, its address is 192.168.222.10, broadcast address is 192.168.222.254 I firewall, linux based with 3 ports, the 192.168.222.0 net (DMZ), the "outside world" on one port and the internal network is 192.168.111.0, broadcasting

Problems when using cupsaddsmb
Hi! First of all, I have to admit that it is my first post on this list, so please be lenied toward me, if I don't obey some of the rules ;-) I'll try my best :-) I am just trying to get my samba-server work as a print server by using CUPS. The OS of the server is Gentoo Linux and I'm using samba-3.0.9-r1. The clients are win 2k/xp home. I can already see my shares (files and

Remote browse sync, wins, problems...
Hi, I have a network with three different sites, each with their own workgroup, each on their own subnet, connected by a VPN. Each site has a master samba server, acting as a domain master and wins server. Each site has a mixture of Windows (mostly 2000 professional) and linux workstations on each workgroup. I am trying to get all workgroups and all machines viewable in 'network

Help configuring firewall
I am trying to configure a firewall, but nailing down the configuration is eluding me. The box is running Debian stable. Basically, I have a rackmount server with six network cards. eth0 is the internal network, eth1 is a kiosk network, eth2 is a DMZ/wireless network. On the outbound side, eth3 is a DSL connection and eth4 is a cablemodem connection. What I am trying to do is route all internal

Subnet not visible in Network Neighbourhood
Hi list! I've got a debian "etch" box running samba 3.0.24. The server is a firewall (running Shorewall 3.2.6) with five NICs: eth0 -> DSL (it has a public IP address and it allows all the people browse by masquerading other interfaces) eth1 and eth3 -> bond0 (IP address is 192.168.1.1/24) eth2 and eth4 -> bond1 (IP address is 192.168.2.1/24) BTW, bond+ refers to an

Help - Firewall/Router Configuration
Hi All, I am hoping someone can help me with a project I am doing at work. I warn you in advance that this will be a long post, but I wanted to provide as much information as I could to explain what was going on. Any help would be very much appreciated and welcomed as my boss would like to see this up and running this week. I have been scouring various documents on advanced routing for a

Client behind firewall
Hey, I have a Compaq T2000 UPS that I use to power my firewall, dmz, and two internal machines and I've just started implementing UPS monitoring to shut the systems down in the event of an outage instead of relying on me, but I've run into a snag. Reading the documentation, it seems the client has to contact the server. The problem is I really don't want to open a port form the

Access to Samba server across subnets
Hello all, I'm using samba 2.2.7a with winbind on a RedHat 7.3 (pre-installed by Dell) server, with an NT PDC/BDC, with the NT PDC acting as the WINS server. Everything works fine on the local subnet 192.168.0.xxx, but we also have an IPSec VPN set up with our western call centre, and users on the western office subnet 192.168.10.xxx can't login to the samba shares. They can login to

Firewall transparancy?
Hi! I was thinking, is there a way to use a linux box with Samba running in the DMZ of a firewall and to validate logons from the internal network? I.e. the users workstations are on the protected net on 192.168.111.xx and the Samba PDC resides in the DMZ, running subnet 192.168.222.xx. If it's possible, what ports need to be open? hello, My company network config: ## Workgroup a, b, c (windows based), and d (novell) ## Now I added a workgroup e (linux samba), and want to make all the machines under different workgroups share the files or printers when necessary. So I setup a RH7.1 with NAT implemented by iptables so that the machnies under this server can use 192.168.0.x (win9x machines) to access the network. Yet the

Three interfaces firewall - performances problem
Hello, I''ve shorewall running a three interfaces firewall (net, loc, dmz) and I''ve got performances problems. My measured bandwidth from internet is up to 6.8 Mb/s, and I "only" get 3.5Mb/s on my LAN and 5Mb/s on my dmz. I checked with iperf, and all my interfaces (eth0, eth1, eth2) can actually work at 10 Mb/s. I tried disabling all the rules from loc to net
