Can I kill... 'add user script' behaviour in adding users during logon?
The behavior of the 'add user script' smb.conf option is rather weird: It is documented as an option to the login parts of the protocol, and used to add users dynamically during the logon process, if they don't exist locally. However, it is also used in the SAMR code when an admin explicitly creates a user. This is actually the more natural use for the parameter, but it is

Status on fixes for MS04-11/MS04-12/KB828741 issues
I realise that a large number of sites have been bitten by the bad interaction between this hotfix, and Samba. I have finally managed to spend some time looking into this, and have reproduced it in my test environment. There appears to be an issue with the NTLMSSP layer used by windows clients to wrap password change requests. Fortunately, I have also shown that it is possible to construct a

Specifying a fixed uid for RedHat RPM PrivSep user
I'm a little unconfortable with the way the privsep user is created in the RedHat spec files. In particular the way a fixed UID is specified. Now it looks (from a glance at the apache/bind spec file) that it is 'the way it is done' - but is there a register of these numbers somewhere? Win2K Printer Driver Problems - Ah HA!.
OK we do all the steps in my previous missive and everything looks fine, landscape, collating the whole works. This is on a Laserjet 4000 with the latest PCL6 driver. The firm still has a good number of Laserjet 4s so we dutifully load up the latest PCL5E driver for the 4 and connect to the 4 on a couple of workstations. Everything goes to hell. One way trust relationship between Win2k and Samba 2. x.x PDC
I'm sure this has been discussed before, but would it then be possible to join a "real" NT4 or Win2k BDC to the Samba domain and establish the trust relation from our other Win2k? Or does the trust relationship have to be "registered" with the entire domain and therefore all the domain controllers? Khanh Tran Network Operations Sarah Lawrence College 1 Mead Way

PDC/BDC Questions (fwd)
Cool, thanks alot, I really appreciate your time. I'm extremely pleased with 3.0.x's stability, I don't think local segment failover is really going to be a huge issue. Vedr.: Re: Migration from WindowsNT to Samba
I was thinking of using rsync, since it has the ability of mapping the written user-name instead of using UID's. Anyone know how this work on WindowsNT? I've read, that CygWin hasn't the ACL's properly implemented yet? Does another "cross-platform" exist, that can map between the written usernames? Jacob ps. I've tried using scopy, but it fails : "Acces

AW: W2K RAS Server in Samba 3.0.0 Domain
I patched samba to always return ACCESS_GRANTED for testing. So I came to this: IASSAM.LOG [556] 23:23:53:671: Inserting attribute msNPAllowDialin. [556] 23:23:53:671: Successfully retrieved per-user attributes. Dialin now "only" fails with "Dialin not allowed for user", but I'm not able to set it in UserMgr. Is it difficult to map this attribute? Daniel

Hallo Andrew, thanks for the answer (for the hints in particular, I'm new on samba mailing list), I'm working on a fax server based on the original implamentation of Pedro Fraile you can read all the particular here: http://www.linuxgazette.com/issue79/fraile.html The goal of "my" fax server implementation: Users authentication via samba/winbind/pam Automatic creation of the

Fw: Forcing password changes using SAMBA as PDC
Hi, I did as suggested, and still have the same problem. I am still able to login to samba with another users password that does not require password changes. This seems to me that the problem is related to PAM password changing. I have tried change the various PAM options in the smb.conf file, but cannot get it to work. Depending on the options, it either asks for a password or not. When it asks

WinBind does not work well with Rational ClearCase (bugfix atta ched :)
Andrew, Thank you for your suggestions. The real problem is Rational Technical support. When you pay someone 100k+ they tend to look for any excuse to deem you "unsupported". If you don't have your default group set to the clearcase user group, then technical support will decide that thats where your problem is! I am sure you know how that goes... I have solved problems

Re: Samba PDC and Kerberos(MIT or SEAM in Uinx, without microsoft ADS)
Hi, Thank you very much for you reply. Some people think storing the sensitive information in the LDAP is not very secure. They think the sensitive information and the public information should be stored in seperate place. So we want the samba PDC authentication can integrete the Kerberos authentication directly. RE: License Metering Software to work with SAMBA
Andrew: Thanks for the heads up. As always, the support you guys give to an open source product amazes me. We worked with Jeremy & John Terpstra a few years ago when there was a problem with how AutoCAD was creating lock files (AutoCAD R14 running against SAMBA 1.9.something; it ended up being a timing issue that AutoDesk & Microsoft resolved, as well as samba 2.0 provided an

NTLMv2 in Samba 3.0
I tested NTLMv2 again using the newly created Samba 3.0.2 (I didn't test 3.0.1). It still doesn't seem to work. Has anyone successfully made NTLMv2 work? If so, can I have a working sample of the smb.conf file? I have included below entries in my smb.conf (among other entries): security = server password server = NTDomainController client ntlmv2 auth = yes On both NTDomainController and

A few more questions and comments... related to this topic If Kerberos is the back-end to LDAP.. there is no need to synchronize or store a password in the LDAP tree.. just the principal for the user in the userpassword attribute: userpassword = {kerberos}name@domain in the smb.conf file do I need stuff like this? Unix password sync = yes passwd program =
