EL6, xinetd, and permissions. What am I missing?
Staging for a rollout of EL 6, and ran into a very strange permissions issue with xinetd that defies all (my) logic. It's a script called "spfiled" that we use for messaging between our server cluster servers. I'm trying to get it to run with "least permissions necessary". Because it reads/writes files in conjunction with a web-based service, it runs as user

Re; Samba 2.2.2
Hello Guys, First off let me say thanks for your efforts on Samba. Next I have a problem, I dled the samba 2.2.2 tarball and installed it and now I am at the configuration stage. It says I have to add two lines netbios-ssn lines to the inetd.conf file. Well, unfortunately there is no inetd.conf. However there is an xinetd.conf file is that the same thing and if so, what and where do I

Samba SWAT 2.2.7 Doesn't Work in Redhat8.0?
Hello All Samba-list Members, I have installed a Samba 2.2.7, the samba-latest.tar.gz, as a PDC on a Redhat8.0 GNU/Linux server. ( Of course, I first uninstalled the original samba that came with the Redhat installation CDs by rpm -e samba*.) The installation was successful. Then I modified /etc/services and /etc/xinetd.d/swat as suggested in the installation document uncompressed from

swat on red hat 7.2
Hi, I'm having a minor issue with swat on red hat 7.2. It won't let me make any changes to the samba server (adding shares, printers, and global definitions). The buttons to access these simply don't exist. I can view status, but I can't make any changes (not even restart the daemons). This works fine on my Debian system. The only real difference that I can think of is inetd

hpa-tftp with xinetd
Good day, Just a quick question- could someone please confirm that this is the correct xinetd configuration (or not) for hpa-tftp? We've noticed that, when under moderate load hpa-tftpd resides in memory, even after there are no connections or even if xinetd is shut down. Under light load the server goes away after each connection, as desired. Thanks in advance! service tftp {

Can't run POP3 and IMAP simultaneously from xinetd...
Hello all, I'm hoping you can help out with an issue I'm having running dovecot-beta8 on Solaris 9 (SPARC). The reason I need to run them from xinetd is that we require the filtering ability that tcp_wrappers provide. My issue is that, when running both from xinetd, IMAP runs fine, but then, when you try to POP in to check mail on the same box, it seems that the login section is

I am using the dovecot local delivery agent. ---------first the dovecot configuration and version information------------------ dovecot -n output: # /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf log_timestamp: %Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S protocols: pop3 pop3s

xinetd custom service - perl - remote address
Hi all, I can't believe that I can't find the answer to this one. I have a perl script which is called by xinetd. I want that perl script to be able to detect the remote IP address of the caller. I presumed that it would be an environment variable but I could be wrong. I've found reference to the ENV and PASSENV arguments for xinetd.conf but no examples, and no indication of what

[CentOS 5] tftp-server, unable to create new files (even with "-c" option)
Hi all, I'm trying to setup a TFTP server to serve as repository for the config of all my Cisco network devices. As per the the tftpd man, I've added the "-c" option into the /etc/ xinetd.d/tftp (as follows) but I still cannot get write access (unless the file is already present). Could not complete SSL handshake to Amazon EC2 host
Hello, I am trying to monitor a host in the Amazon EC2 cloud. Yet when I try to check NRPE from the monitoring host I am getting an SSL handshake error: [root at monitor1:~] #/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_nrpe -H ops.jokefire.com CHECK_NRPE: Error - Could not complete SSL handshake. And if I telnet into the host on port 5666 to see if the FW port is open, the connection closes right away:
