Mounting drives from Win XP
All, I have just installed Samba 3.0.0 under Mandrake Linux (Kernel 2.2.16) on a SPARCstation5 and a SPARCserver1000 Mounts made available from Linux and Solaris boxes are working fine and are mounted by the PC's. However, when trying to mount a shared drive from my PC (Win XP Pro) on the Linux boxes, I get the following error: 1056: tree connect failed: ERRDOS - ERRnomem (Insufficient

Permissions Problem on a share
Thank you, Rowland. :-) I understand my configuration is not optimal......i'm just a small-time operator trying to make do with my budget line item maximum. The good news is that samba 4 has been absolutely solid and seamless since the implementation in mid-July of 2015. adding the mean and standard deviation to boxplots
Dear list, How can I add the mean and standard deviation to each of the boxplots using the example provided in the boxplot function? boxplot(len ~ dose, data = ToothGrowth, boxwex = 0.25, at = 1:3 - 0.2, subset = supp == "VC", col = "yellow", main = "Guinea Pigs' Tooth Growth", xlab = "Vitamin C dose mg",

Dealing with 800x480 displays
Has anyone worked around the display size limit on units like the ASUS eee? They list a 800x480 display resolution, and I have encountered Gnome dialogs that require at least 800x600 to see the <OK> button on the bottom of the panel.

Validating a mixed-effects model
Hi I constructed a mixed-effects model from longitudinal repeated measurements of lab values in 22 patients seperated into two groups with the groups as fixed effect using lme. I thought about using the jackknife procedure, i. e., removing any one subject and calculating the fixed effect, to assess the stability of the fixed effect and thereby validate the model. I suppose this has been done in

eRuby & Rails: Not Compatible
I''m new to Ruby, Rails, and this list. I''ve tried searching for an answer but it all seems to be over my head. I have all the books but again they seem to leave me on my own to figure out the stuff that really matters. Where is the best place to find out the details? Exactly what are these much celebrated "naming conventions"; i.e. where do I find an exhaustive

reading in ASCII files
I wonder if there is a way to read in CSV files so that - certain fields within each record (line) are ignored, i.e. not converted to columns in the output data frame - factors/levels are created automatically: often, the possible labels are known in advance and could immediately be converted. This would save a lot of memory and time for bigger files, I assume. Johann

Encoding into MONO (delphi)
Hi! I have a problem. I hope, you can help me. I use a Delphi conversion (from Aleksandr Shamray), but it doesn't work when I'd like to convert a *.RAW into a mono *.ogg file. vorbis_encode_init_vbr(vi, 1, 44100, 0.5); //because of the mono the program stops at line: //* uninterleave samples */ . . buffer[1][i] := smallInt((pArray(@readbuffer)[i shl 2 + 3] shl 8) or

Hot swap CPU
From: Rodrigo Barbosa <rodrigob at suespammers.org> > Btw, don't quote me on this one :) > I'm only 90% sure of the hotswapping capabilities, and less than 50% > sure about the price :) There _are_ systems with hot-swap CPUs, memory and/or, PCI[-X] slots. They are _not_ commodity and pricey, and require OS-level support. In fact, I believe Linux 2.6 has some support for

schily tools
Hey folks, I'm reading up on gtar for tape archiving and it sounds kind of nasty and not something I really want to rely on. It looks like star from the schily tools is preferred. I'm using Centos (and RHEL) 5.7 which seems to have star but not sdd. Which leads me to believe that the Schily tools are maybe a bit "rogue" My basic requirement with what I'm doing is to use

Does this tell me anything? Traffic report
I'm trying to get Samba up and running and having a terrible time. It says that I should be able to run nmap and see that 137 and 139 are open - which they are not. I have not added any restrictions in smb.conf, do not have a firewall running and I have increased the log level to 5 to see all of the messages. It says that it is talking on 137 but it kind of looks like it's not talking

Couldn't create lock .dovecot-sync.lock
Hi, In a cluster with two servers and replication via dovecot-dsync, this error is logged: server1 dovecot: dsync-server(<user>): Error: Couldn't create lock /var/lib/imap/user/6a/<user>/.dovecot-sync.lock: No such file or directory This is because "/var/lib/imap/user/6a/<user>/" doesn't exist in server1. ssh-keygen listing fingerprints little unclear
Since ssh-keygen is not listing the _types_ of keys I have in my file, wouldn't it be a good idea to make the -t switch filtering out the selected type of key when doing a listing with -l? i.e. in this case I see both rsa1, rsa, and dss keys: $ ssh-keygen -l -f ~/.ssh/known_hosts 1024 a9:4f:0b:b6:33:d7:d0:ad:6a:11:b4:57:25:7e:1e:f8 fluff.x42.com 1024

SSL configuration
Hello subscribers, I have a very strange question regarding SSL setup on gluster storage. I have create a common CA and sign certificate for my gluster nodes, placed host certificate, key and common CA certificate into /etc/ssl/, create a file called secure-access into /var/lib/glusterd/ Then, I start glusterd on all nodes, system work fine, I see with peer status all of my nodes. No problem.

Is there a way to create an NTConfig.POL file without having access to an NT4, w2k or w2k3 server? Is there a way to do it in linux? Or a winxp/9x workstation?

Error in SNIA spec wrt. SessionSetupAndX response when dialect is NT LM 0.12
Good evening, On the bottom of page 53, section 4.1.2.2 in the SNIA spec (http://www.snia.org/tech_activities/CIFS/CIFS-TR-1p00_FINAL.pdf), it states if the dialect is NT LM 0.12 and extended security is off (I.e., use "traditional" NTLMv2/NTLMv2 authentication w/o SecurityBlobs), the SessionSetupAndX response is as shown in section 4.1.2.2 with a word count = 4. However, what I have

assertion in journal_start
Hi, I have a server configured as follows: a standard 2.4.18 kernel, IDE discs, 1Gb RAM (not all used), load avg around 1-2. a large partition, formatted reiserfs within large partition are 80 300Mb loopback file systems, formatted ext3. I got the following assertion yesterday which forced a lot of processes into D state. I'm not sure how easy it is to reproduce this problem.
