Alternative Auth Methods.
hi, Are there any alternative authentication methods for Samba? Other thank the smbpasswd file? I'd like to do PostgreSQL or mySQL. Why? Because I can do Exim/IMAP/POP3 Apache/Zope with SQL, if I could do Samba it would wrap it up into one nice DB for authentication. It does not have to be much, just the ability to get the data from a SQL query rather than a flat file query. Anyone

Samba in a WAN Environment
Brevard County is about 70 miles long and 20 miles wide. We have many small sites around the County that will eventually have their current servers replaced with Linux/Samba servers. We've been successfully running a test Samba server since January and I'm convinced of it's stability and usefulness ... good work Samba Team and Linux in general. Other than for the test Samba server,

Folks, Greetings. I just wanted to take a few moments a give everyone an update on the plans for the 2.2 branch. First we would like to thank everyone who has provided feedback regarding the 2.2.3a release. The positive feedback has been encouraging and the bug reports are proving to be very fruitful. Jeremy, Herb, and myself are planning on to continue development on the SAMBA_2_2 cvs tree

WinXP - Can Join 2.2.2 domain - Not log on
I have read through the mail archives to find a solution to my problem... to no avail. Here is the issue: I have a Samba 2.2.2 acting as a PDC, with Win2k I can join the domain and logon as a domain user. No problem. (So it is working and set up properly). With WinXP - Pro, I can join the domain, successfully. However, once I do the reboot I cannot logon as a domain user as I did with

OT: Please comment on Dvorak's troll
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1812887,00.asp Specifically, his assertion that ISP's would sniff traffic and block, say, the SIP port. You could play wack-a-mole with port numbers, no? Also a community based, Freenet style of encryption implementation for "free" VoIP traffic would address this issue. I raise this to the list because I'm sure there's a grain of

I have attended a few SCLUG meetings in the past at the old Nortel building but have not been able to attend lately. I do watch this list closely and have gained much from it. So why am

Snom 360 lights not working on subscription
Dear friends, I am working around with a Snom 360 and Asterisk 1.4 + FreePBX In order to get subscriptions working and the Snom 360 lights turns on, I have set everything just like all the pages in the net explain. So, I get subsciption working. I can list subscription on the asterisk and if I use the SIP trace function built in at the SNOM nad see NOTIFY messages and 200 OK responses.

Verify contents before boot?
I see there's a memtest on the Linux discs I've created... would it be possible to put another program in place (a module, perhaps?) that can calculate a hash using a certain algorithm (i.e. SHA512 or similar) to validate and print out the hash of the boot ISO before booting it? The integrity of the ISO is absolutely critical. Thanks, Bret

ICMP Error
I just installed pre 9 of kernel 2.2.0. I am now getting echoed to the screen of whatever virtual terminal I am in the following message: 172.16.81.99 sent an invalid ICMP error to a broadcast This is repeated for a number of IP addresses. Obviously, the problem is two fold. Firstly I need to find out what the problem is with the servers. However, I find it somewhat annoying to having this

For the archives... In trying to play GSM files in Windows (Windows XP for me, but in general) I found no help on Google, so when I figured it out I thought I would post it here. Q: How do I play GSM Files in Windows? A: Use Quicktime, it supports the GSM audio format directly. Andy Farnsworth farnsaw@stonedoor.com

Yum problem CentOS 3.3?
I''m still using CentOS 3.3 as our install mechanism, then adding some packages from a tarball of RPMs we need. Then I run # yum update yum which sometimes takes a while. Yesterday it took many hours. I like to run these from behind a firewall in our office before taking the server to the datacenter, but the delay meant a whole day''s delay in our trip to the datacenter
