Samba, vfat and new kernels: Anyone able to solve the problem?
This is my third mail in the last three months and still no-one has answered, while I received some comments from other users about the fact that the problem is known. So if you have any info on how to fix this, please post a message :-) Here is the problem: I used to share a vfat mounted partition with other collegues through samba (2.0.7). Everything worked and still works fine with kernel

Is this a bug?
In the course of tracking down a problem in Samba v2.0.4a, I set "debuglevel=3" and noticed something strange in the log file. While attempting to find the netlogon script, a number of variations on the name are tried (e.g. for Windows, it's *.COM, *.EXE, *.BAT). Here's the strangeness: the file NETLOGON"BAT is also looked for. Yes, that's a quotation mark in place

Samba and Actionlaser 1500
Has anyone gotten this printer to work with Redhat/Samba? My system is RH 7.2 , Kernel 2.4.20, samba 1.2.7a. Sometimes, VIA CUPS, it will print a test sheet, but I cant seem to get it to work locally with a raw queue. I've tried Foomatic but it just messed up my printer database so I reinstalled printconf, Linuxprinter.org says it is partially compatible with the omni driver, which I have

Can't Access Samba Shares After Recent Windows Update (msblast)
Hello, I have been running Samba for years with no problems... I recently became the victim of the MSBLAST worm and I ran Windows Update to fix the hole in RPC. That was Tuesday. Yesterday, Thursday, I needed to move some files over to my Linux server and as I usually do, I went to My Network Places -> Computers Near Me in W2K and could no longer see my Linux server. I restarted Samba and

C'mon guys. Get some virus protection.
Anyone who is smart enough to be on this list is smart enough to get some proper virus protection. However it may be the case that some cannot afford commercial liscenses and/or are not aware of the free virus checkers that are available. Since this *is* a list issue, I don't feel that it is off topic to ask for folks to publish various means for such. I did notice that some were

Two annoying problems
Hey all - Two problems, one mine, one a friend's: (1) I have a small three-machine network at my office. The server is running Mandrake 7.2 with either the 2.2.17-21mdk stock kernel or a custom-compiled 2.4.1 kernel. It's running Samba 2.0.7-18mdk, configured correctly (as everything works when it's booted to the 2.2.17 kernel). I've moved to the 2.4.1 kernel because the USB

Nested NAT'd subnet
Hey all, quick question: I have a server running Samba 2.2.3a which has two NAT'd private domains behind it (192.168.1.0/24 and 192.168.88.0/24). The .88.0 subdomain has a wireless AP/router on it (192.168.88.254) which also does NAT (the wireless machines are on 192.168.92.0/24). The router has the IP of the second internal NIC as its gateway; the wireless machines have the

Encarta install from Samba server barfs
Greetings: I tried to install M$ Encarta over my internal network onto my kids' Windoze 2K machine tonight; the Encarta install stuff is in a vfat partition on the Samba server. The install started, then quit about 14% of the way through - the connection to the Samba server apparently was lost - the installer began complaining about being unable to find the CD-ROM, and I was unable to browse

Answering the nTh call ...
Curious to know if anyone's created something similar to the following, if so and you'd care to share an AGI or dialplan, much appreciated. I will be eventually write a script to answer the nTH call. (if I can't find it (why reinvent wheels). Looking to do some testing sending anywhere between 50-200 calls to a machine. I'd like a Snom/Polycom/whatever to pick up after the nTh

rpart 3.1.0 bug?
I just updated rpart to the latest version (3.1.0). There are a number of changes between this and previous versions, and some of the code I've been using with earlier versions (e.g. 3.0.2) no longer work. Here is a simple illustration of a problem I'm having with xpred.rpart. iris.test.rpart<-rpart(iris$Species~., data=iris[,1:4], parms=list(prior=c(0.5,0.25, 0.25))) + ) >

Keyboard Interactive Attack?
I read an article today about keyboard interactive auth allowing bruteforcing. I'm afraid I have minimal understanding of what keyboard-interactive really does. What does it do, and should I have my clients set it to off in sshd_config? --- Scott Neugroschl | XYPRO Technology Corporation 4100 Guardian Street | Suite 100 |Simi Valley, CA 93063 | Phone 805 583-2874|Fax 805 583-0124 |

VoIP Abuse to Twitter (real time VoIP Abuse)
Apologies for cross posting but some of us aren't on the other list (vice/versa) and thought both groups would benefit. For those familiar with the VoIP Abuse Project, no need to explain the gist of this. I got tired of parsing through the alerts (lists) I receive via email daily. They're long and sometimes I don't have the time to post them all. So for now, posting VoIP Abuse

Port Knocking?
I haven't been keeping up with the internals, I'm afraid. Does OpenSSH have support for Port Knocking? I might be interested in looking into that, as a way of reacquainting myself with the current code base. --- Scott Neugroschl | XYPRO Technology Corporation 4100 Guardian Street | Suite 100 |Simi Valley, CA 93063 | Phone 805 583-2874|Fax 805 583-0124 |

summary.lm
I ran across this error the other day while using lm(). I confess that I haven't used it for awhile and haven't been tracking the changes between versions of R. However, the piece of code below is a tiny modification of the example in the help file for "lm". I just separated the commands apart for clarity. A similar piece comes from the help file for

OT: ps -> eps -> MS Word
I've created a bunch of postscript trees (post.rpart), which I subsequently edit in Adobe Acrobat 4.05 (I need additional labelling that isn't easy to add with R). After editing the labels and annotations using Acrobat, I then export the file to Adobe's .eps format so I can insert the picture into a Microsoft Word 2000 document. The .pdf file distilled from the .ps file is

Math symbols in email - not completely OT
What is the generally accepted way to put certain math symbols into plain text email? For example, how does one convey the "is exactly equal to", "is approximately equal to", and "delta" symbols in a standard text-based (e.g. Courier) font? Dr. Marc R.
