How to get print file name from samba?
Hello guys,
Is there any way I can get the print file name from samba when I send a print job to a print share from MS windows? Is there any variable to do so?
Is there any way to run programs before samba actually save the file? This is because I would like to run virus checker before actually saving files to samba.
Thanks for help!

WinXP - Can Join 2.2.2 domain - Not log on
I have read through the mail archives to find a solution to my problem...
to no avail. Here is the issue:
I have a Samba 2.2.2 acting as a PDC, with Win2k I can join the domain
and logon as a domain user. No problem. (So it is working and set up
properly).
With WinXP - Pro, I can join the domain, successfully. However, once I
do the reboot I cannot logon as a domain user as I did with

How come this is not implemented to the official
version of Samba? Would be quite useful. Anyone
tried this patch with 2.2.2 yet?

Patch for events like "On Create", "On Modify"...
Hi all :)
I have spent my night thinking about one problem that my company asked me to solve, and I come to the conclusion that is a little
bit easy to do ( I guess... ).
The problem with the Recycle bin was solved with the patches that Brandon made ( http://www.amherst.edu/~bbstone/howto/samba.html )...the recycle bin is working fine :)
Lets see: The files go to the bin on a kind of "On

failsafe against "stupid" / careless users
I'm admin on a samba PDC with 150 users, and as normal users they are quit
"stupid". This means that they ofte deletes something that shouldnt have
been deleted. And I find it anoying to restore their files from tapebackup.
So would it be possible to get samba to "move" files instead of deleting
them? This way I could allocate a disk to store deleted files for a periode

Windows XP & greyed-out Guest user password prompt
Hi, we've been using Samba for a while, and are just now starting to
switch our desktop computers to Windows XP. We are having a problem
where connections to our Samba server fail, and the user is presented
with a password prompt asking for a password for user Guest. They can't
select a different user.
I've searched the Microsoft knowledgebase, and the Samba list archives,

Can I mount with samba on a read-only system?
Hi,
I'm trying to mount with smbmount on a read-only system. I have a
writable /tmp and /var dir, so it car wirte logs. The samba daemons are
running fine, but when doing smbmount I get the following error:
can't lock /etc/mtab~ file
This is correct, because mtab is read-only. I tried to create a link
(ln -sf) from /etc/mtab to /tmp/mtab (and /etc/mtab~ to /tmp/mtab~) but

How to reduce size of samba binaries
Hi,
I'd like to reduce the size of the samba binaries. smbd for instance is
about 1.5 meg, which is way to much if you ask me. Is there a way to
create smaller binaries, maybe by compiling differently?
thanx,
Dennis

[PATCH] x86/pvclock-xen: zero last_value on resume
If the guest domain has been suspend/resumed or migrated, then the
system clock backing the pvclock clocksource may revert to a smaller
value (ie, can be non-monotonic across the migration/save-restore).
Make sure we zero last_value in that case so that the domain
continues to see clock updates.
[ I don't know if kvm needs an analogous fix or not. ]

Undelete some files?
Hi,
my / is located on /dev/hda6 and my "personal storage partition" - the palce
where I store my important files - is located on /dev/hda9.
I've deleted a couple of files in /dev/hda9/xyz/abc. Exactly I've deleted
the whole directory "abc" with mc.
Now hda9 is unmounted, of course. Can you give me a recipe about how to
recover those files, please!

Undelete?
Hi,
I just found out, I deleted an important file, which was (of course)
just downloaded to the computer from the digital camera, and deleted
there.
So, no backups.
But when I tried to find the deleted INODE with debugfs and lsdel It
said "no files deleted".
Is this the normal behaviour? Is there a possibility of getting the data
back?
The kernel I use is 2.2.17-6 from the RH

btrfs-undelete shell-script
Hi,
I tried to recover an accidentally deleted text file from a btrfs volume using
the trusty old ''grep --text -C 500'' method and failed, since the filesystem was
compressed. So I wrote a shell script that uses btrfs-progs for a proper
undelete functionality.
Attached is the script that implements a working btrfs-undelete using the find-
root and restore tools from
