WINS querying (Advanced)
Hi all... I need to make a few queries to WINS, but am unsure how to do so. 'nmblookup' will allow me to enter an IP address and get information about the machine name, domain, and username. I want to do the opposite...I would like to have a tool that will take a username and return the IP address. I know this information is stored in WINS somehow, and I am capable of writing some Perl

A question about [homes]
Hello everyone. I have a question concerning the [homes] directive. I've set it up and everything's working fine but there's just a slight little detail that bothers me, and that is that when I browse my samba server off a w2k/wXP client I have two shares (I only have [homes] in my config file as far as shares are concerned) in the root view. That is \\sambaserver\homes and

resolve_name(644) messages in log.smb file
I am an newby to samba, and I have a user who is getting permission denied when he attempts to copy files from his PC to his UNIX account. Everything appears to be working correctly on the samba server. I believe he is the only one having a problem. I found this message in the log.smb file after his copy attempt: libsmb/namequery.c:resolve_name(644) resolve_name: unknown name switch type

NT PDC forgets it's the domain master browser! Why???
I've seen this happen several times, and, short of rebooting the NT PDC, I can't seem to fix it. Background: We have two numbered networks in the building. We have an NT domain that has members on both numbered networks. To keep browse lists straight, I've designated Samba as the browse master on one of the networks. It's declared to be in the same workgroup as the NT primary

"smbstatus" reporting strangeness
I've recently added the following line to inetd.conf, to allow clients to connect at Port 445: microsoft-ds stream tcp nowait root /usr/local/sbin/smbd smbd -d 1 That works, but the connections that are started that way produce the machine name "smbd" in the output of "smbstatus". The machines that connect to the main listener (at port 139, started with

2.0.7: unsolicited oplock break reply
I've used oplocks = no for a long time now, because of the famous "oplock_break" error, but I decided to give 2.0.7 a try. I still get "oplock break" errors as before, but this time I got a new error too: [2000/05/02 10:04:52, 0] smbd/oplock.c:oplock_break(976) oplock_break: receive_smb timed out after 30 seconds. oplock_break failed for file XXXXX/xxxxxx/mailbox.pst

[LLVMdev] Benchmarks
Dear List, There's been some recent discussion on the list about benchmarks. I just read a Dr. Dobbs article on the relative runtime performance of various compilers (8 of them compared) on Intel platforms. The test focused on mainly template type things but offers Dhrystone and zlib for comparisons. There's no clear winner as all compilers perform well in some areas and poorly in

how to get IPFW rules for SMTP server behind NAT server "right"?
hi all, i've been struggling with setting appropriate rules for an SMTP-server behind by NAT'd firewall. it's not that there is too little info on the web -- or here, for that matter -- there's scads of it for seemingly endless configs/req'ts -- none that seem to be exactly my own. bottom line: i'm a bit confused, and looking for some experienced advice. my goals (for

Change labels of x-axes in Plot of stl() function?
Hi all, How can the label of the x-axes in the plot() of a stl.object be adapted? e.g., When plotting: plot(stl(nottem, "per")) In the labels of the x-axes is “time”. How can this be changed to e.g., “Time (dekade) “? It does not work with xlab or others anymore… Thanks, Jan _______________________________________________________________________ Ir. Using racoon-negotiated IPSec with ipfw and natd
[ -netters, please Cc me or security@ with replies. ] I'm running into trouble integrating dynamic racoon-based IPSec into a network with ipfw and natd. I need to be able to allow VPN access from any address from authenticated clients. I've got the dynamic VPN working, with racoon negotiating SAs and installing SPs, but the problem is that I can't tell whether an incoming packet on
