Controlling share create permissions
Is it possible to set default create permissions on certain directories
within a share? ie. Create files in the share [something] /folder1/ as 744
but in /folder1/subfolder/ as 777. I thought of creating two shares and
having the users manually go into the other share to save thier files, but
confusion ensued. Thanks for any help!

I really appreciate all your responses on this.
I might not have fixed it by looking at samba logs but i noticed there was
directory in user unix directory with wildcard * as folder name
once i removed it, samba showed up all the files and directory.
am not sure what would * as folder name caused this behaviour
may be samba was trying to interpret * as something else not sure......

ACI appraisal program "freezes" when accessing SAMBA shares
Hi all,
Our company uses a buggy piece of appraisal software called ACI Rapid
Report. We recently switched from Netware 3.1 to Samba 2.0.4b for
file serving, and since then have been unable to create new documents in
ACI.
Before creating a new document, ACI forms a list of all .aci files in the
"data" directory. Locally, this takes a few seconds. On Netware, it took
about a minute.

Diagnosis Test Pass, But...
Here's my setup:
Caldera Open Linux Lite (kernel 2.0.29)
Samba 2.0.4a
Windows Domain (Two Windows NT 4.0 Servers -- one PDC, one BDC --
and numerous Windows NT 4.0 Workstations)
I can see my Linux box in Network Neighborhood on my Windows NT boxes. I
can open the Linux box and see the top level shares available. When I
try to open a share I see one or two anonymous folders.

I recently migrated my system (postfix/Dovecot)from mbox to Maildir.
Almost everything is working (phone and thunderbird show all my mail and

However I am stuck on my .procmailrc rules

SENDMAILFLAGS=-oi
LOGFILE=/var/log/procmail.log

NT_STATUS question
Hi all
Got a couple of errors in the logs wondering what they mean???
Google does not come up with too much on these NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_FILE,
NT_STATUS_SHARING_VIOLATION, NT_STATUS_INVALID_LEVEL and
NT_STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND.
Four clips illustrating the above are below...
I have am wondering how I sort this out. I am particularly worried about
the NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_FILE.

Samba List:
Any idea why a directory containing 376 sub-directories would only show 162
sub-directories via Windows Explorer? The machine is a Sun Ultra 1 running
SunOS 5.5.1 and Samba 2.0.6.

Samba Bug?
Hi,
I've been trying to get in touch with someone to discuss a problem
with Samba that I've been experiencing. I can reproduce the bug
on the systems for which I am responsible, and am interested to
know whether it is a local problem or a genuine bug. (I have searched
the archives, updated to the latest Samba release and read the docs :)
I posted to this list and have had no replies -

problem setting up dfs
Hi,
I'm trying to set up msdfs on FreeBSD 4.10 with samba 3.08.
The clients I use are WinXp (sp1) and the desktop browser on RedHat ES3.
Problems described beneath are identical for both clients.
I tried to follow the howto as precisely as possible to not into
problems, however, I did...
In /export/dfsroot I made a link msdfs:strsvr01\part0 . I made sure
everything is in lower case.

R graphs in LaTeX documents?
I have tried to find a neat way to include graphs from R in LaTeX documents,
but have not succeeded (I work with a WinEdt/MikTeX combination). The two
roads I have stumbled along so far are the following:
*Generate postscript files and convert them into EPS files by means of
GhostScript or other not so straightforward tools.
*Generate pictex files and include these.
None of these solutions have

questions on French characters in plot
Dear all,
I have imported a dataset from Stata using the foreign package. The original data contain French characters such as è and ç .
After importing, string variables containing names of French departments have changed. E.g. Ardèche became Ard\x8fche. I would like to ask how I could plot these changed strings, since now the strings with special characters fail to be printed in the plot (either

Vorbis over RTP

I got bored of writing papers last week so I decided to write an app for

setfacl(1) - Can FreeBSD's ACLs contain groups from NT/AD domains ?
Hi all,
I have "FreeBSD 7.0-CURRENT #1: Wed Jul 25" authenticating successfully against
active directory via samba's winbindd(8). I need to manage samba shares via
FreeBSD ACLs and CIFS ACLs. From my reading of setfacl(1) I should be able to
set group permissions using the syntax of DOMAIN\group-name. For example:
#setfacl -d -m g:"MYDOMAIN\mygroupname":rwx test
