Performance Problems
I've been introducing a local company to the benefits of Linux and Samba, things have been going really well until I tried to provide some file sharing for 3 people on the Lan. Setup: RH 5.0 on a P5-133 running a small intranet with DHCP, file server, and local / remote mail services Samba 1.9.18 (not sure of patch level) I setup a directory accessible by only 3 users and copied a 2.4Meg

Account management...newbie question
Hi all, I'm currently in the process of piloting a Samba server for file/print in a Windoze NT network. I'm using Samba 2.0.5 on Caldera OpenLinux 2.3 I've been managing Windows networks for quite a while, but Linux/Samba is new to me. What I want to know is: Other than making my Samba server a domain controller, is there a relatively easy way to import my existing user accounts

Why does oplocks = False not seem to stop file cacheing?
Greetings All, I have tried everything I can think of and can not seem to stop the PC from cacheing a local copy of a file retrieved over a samba share. I have tried oplocks = false and also setting veto oplocks = /*.txt/ Whatever I try the PC still shows me the old version of a file after I modify it on the unix side. If anyone can see anything wrong with my smb.conf file please let me know.

WinXP client always connects as Gaia\Guest
All attempts to connect to our Samba server, share "\data" from any Windows client fails. I'm trying to get samba to prompt the windows user with a login box, have them enter the samba username/password, then head onto the share. If I use in the address field the following: \\gaia\data /user:woellki a dialog box appears, with the username field greyed out "Gaia\Guest"

strict allocate = no does not work
Hi! I've got Debian 4.0 on an NSLU2 with Samba. The system is on an USB-Stick, the Samba share is on an USB-Disk. Copying files to the samba share make some problems here. I get a large delay before the transfer starts and I get timeouts with files larger than 150MB. I found out, that samba is writing a dump file on the disc before the transfer starts, which causes the delay/timeout. This

problem saving word documents
Hi, Thought I posted this already two weeks ago. Haven't seen any reactions yet, so I post it again We got the following problem here: Every now and then, users are unable to save Word or Excel documents on our Samba server. We already tried a couple of things: disabling oplocks, increasing oplock break wait time, putting the documents on a new share, ... but to no success so far. The

Word/Excel documents cannot be saved after Samba Upgrade
Hi, after upgrading Samba 3.0.24 to Samba 3.5.4 a strange problem occurs: Users cannot anymore save files in MS Office (Word/Excel) on Samba shares. More precisely: Save as Office 2007 documents or RTF-Files works fine, but *.doc ist avoided with Error Message "Not enough memory". Of course there are lots of memory/space and ACL/Permissions should be ok since other file operations
