mode data=journal in ext3. Is it safe to use?
Hello I try again. Can anybody of you acknowledge or not if mode data=journal in ext3 is safe to use in Linux kernel 2.6.x? Wee need to have a very consistent and integrity for our filesystem, and it would then be desired to journal both data and metadata. But if this mode can corrupt the filesystem as both Phil White and Nicolas Kowalski has experienced, it may be more advised to use mode

Aw: rsync show files changed during transfer - how?

Rsync does no locking. Which means that: if you are modifying a file while it's

seeking a developper documentation for jbd and ext3
Hi, I am a student in computer science and I develop a program that tries to explain other students the mecanisms of the ext3 filesystem : we show the content of each structure and explain what it means. But I was unable to find a developper documentation for the jounalizing functionality (jbd). Could you please tell me where can I find one ? ( in english or in french ) Also a documentation

Key for high CPU usage
Dear List, I'm trying to take a closer look at rsync code, and found when we run daemon, it will take a lot of CPU (400Mhz). So I'm interested in Which part of rsync code on ver 3.0.5 consuming CPU a lot? Can anyone here help to lighten me up? So I can try to improve the performance or low the CPU usage. I suspect that there are a few factors, which might related with CPU usage:

rsync show files changed during transfer - how?
i'm using rsync for backup and, as rsync can detect if files have vanished during transfer, i wonder how rsync can tell which files got modified during transfer (i.e. which are not consistent on the destination side after transfer) apparently, rsync can't show that information? wouldn't that be an extremely useful feature if rsync could do another additional mtime or even checksum

[PATCH] /proc/sys/kernel/bootloader_type
This patch exports to userspace the boot loader ID which has been exported by (b)zImage boot loaders since boot protocol version 2. Tested on i386 and x86-64; as far as I know those are the only architectures which use zImage/bzImage format. -hpa Signed-Off-By: H. Peter Anvin <hpa at zytor.com>

tweedie and lmer
Hello all, I have count data with about 36% of observations being zeros. I found in some of the examples of the r-help mail archives that a tweedie family of distributions could be used to fit a model with random effects. Upon installing the tweedie package and attempting to fit the following model: lmer(SUS ~ 1 + (1|

.NAME in .Fortran
Hi all I've been getting some emails from the R package maintainers that I need to update some code in a CRAN packge that uses FORTRAN, to comply with (not so recent) changes. I've been a little busy... I'm having trouble adjusting my code. I hope someone can help. The package was working fine, and a few R functions in my package had lines like this: tmp <- .Fortran(

GML with tweedie: AIC=NA
Dear Catarina, I prefer to leave the AIC value as NA for the tweedie GLM family because it takes extra time to compute and is only occasionally wanted. It's easy to compute the AIC yourself using the dtweedie() function of the tweedie package. Best wishes Gordon At 03:05 AM 14/08/2007, Catarina Miranda wrote: >Dear Gordon; > >I have also sent this email to R help mailing list,

AIC for tweedie glm
Dear R-users, I'm trying to model some data using a tweedie GLM approach. My response variable is the number of pupae that are the offspring of a subordinate wasp on a wasp's nest. However, they're not count data- for each nest, I only know the mean number of pupae per subordinate, which is continous. The data also contain a high proportion of zeros. I'm not very experienced at

Xen 3.4.3 don't work with HP DL360 G7
Hello Guys, I use Xen Server 3.4.3 version, with kernel xen 2.6.18.194. Recently we change any server for HP DL360 G7 with HP Smart Array P410i Controller, but when i install the Xen and reboot machine, the machine does not back because kernel panic happen. I checked the grub conf and see than after install xen server, the line "kernel /xen.gz-2.6.18-194.el5" has change to "kernel

ext3 Overhead
Hello! I'm using a CompactFlash as storage device. Since those CF cards only have limited write cycles (CF does wear-levelling by itself, but you don't want to write too many timet so the card) i was wondering by what a factor the journaling of ext3 increases the write accesses to the CompactFlash compared to ext2. Thanks a lot already for your help! Sincerely Chris Braun

ext3fs patch for 2.4.16 kernel?
This maybe early, but is there an ext3fs patch for the 2.4.16 kernel -- also, in general where does one download the lastest ext3fs patches?? I found the 2.4.14 patch a few weeks ago on in the linux.org UK site, but all the patches appear to be taken off that site...Any help would be most appreciated... Thanks, Chris --------------------------------------------------------------------

glm or transformation of the response?
Hi Dr. Snow, I am a graduate student working on analyzing data for my thesis and came across your post on an R forum: The default link function for the glm poisson family is a log link, which means that it is fitting the model: log(mu) ~ b0 + b1 * x But the data that you generate is based on a linear link. Therefore your glm analysis does not match with how the data was generated

[Patch] Fix blktap to work with a bootloader
If a Xen guest has a bootloader configured, then it will fail to start on a blktap image. The problem is blkdev_uname_to_file, which cannot parse the "tap:aio:$filename" image strings: it tries to split the string apart at ":" and assign the result to a 2-tuple, and this results in a python error if the split results in three or more strings. The fix is to split only at the

Identity link in tweedie
Hi there, I'm using the tweedie distribution package and I cant figure out how to run a model using an identity link. I know I can use a log link by having link.power=0 and I think identity would be link.power=1, but I'm not sure. Furthermore when I try running it with link.power=1 it requires starting values which I cant manage to give appropriately so I'm not sure if its

That darned orphaned socket hang
Stephen, OK, I can now reproduce this hang at will, purely by pulling the plug on my desktop when logged in and then rebooting - its a gnome desktop box with few partitions and ext3 on all of them, so I guess its getting a pile of gnome or ssh related sockets kept in /tmp which is on root To recap, when the machine is suffering from this, it hangs at the point of mounting the root filesystem
