Windows Server 2003 can't join samba PDC domain
Hello! I'm running samba 3.0.20 on Solaris as PDC. But I cannot add Windows Server 2003 clients to the domain. After authenticating as root, I get the following error message: "The parameter is incorrect." in Windows. The result is that the computer isn't added to the domain. :( Any ideas? Thanks. The samba log says: [2005/12/05 15:54:37, 2]

configure.ac: typos in Ultrix and NewsOS sections
Hi all. Bernhard Simon has reported a couple of typos in configure.ac in the sections for Ultrix and Sony NewsOS (NEED_SETPRGP -> NEED_SETPGRP). Now I can't imagine them being heavily used, and the change ought to affect only those (famous last words :-). Anyone see any reason not to do this? OpenSSH on ULTRIX
Hi, not sure if this is considered news, but I have been able to build OpenSSH 5.8p2 on mips-dec-ultrix4.5. On my system I have ULTRIX 4.5 with the latest Y2K patch kit as well as zlib-1.2.5, openssl-0.9.8m and prngd-0.9.29, several GNU utilities and gcc-3.0.4. To build openssh one has to check in various files if <sys/socket.h> and/or <netinet/ip.h> are multiply defined, because of

Ultrix mmap man page
Oisin, Dave, Thanks both for sending me the mmap page from Ultrix. The problem I see is the following paragraph : > The mmap system call maps the memory of a character device (fd) It's the "character device (fd)" that's the problem. Reading this it appears that Ultrix doesn't have the ability to mmap a file descriptor from a arbitary file in the filesystem. For the

Tag encoding
I'd like someone to clear up, or point me to some document clearing up, the character encoding for tags. In some of my OGG:s, non-ASCII characters show up like this: ? -> a ? -> "a ? -> "o etc. While when I set new tags, they later all show up as '#'. What kind of encodings are used in these cases. Which is preferred? (I have no LC_* environment variables set,

Invalid network name in tree connect
Can't connect to my newly-set-up Samba server from any machine in my domain, or from the machine itself. Network numbers/names replaced to protect the nervous :) Anyway, the NT server I also tried from claims that "login not allowed from this workstation." I've got the allow statement set up to allow any machine in my subnet to try and log in. The machine is configured to

CentOS Digest, Vol 60, Issue 13
Another issue to consider with SSDs is that they are based on Flash technology. Each flash cell can only be written on about 10,000 to 100,000 times or so (*), so if you're using extensive read/write on your server you will be impacted. SSD manufacturers go around this issue by giving some intelligence to the drive controllers, so that they minimize the per-cell usage (which means moving

Samba Problem With Big File Transfer on Windows Client
I use fedora 7 and the last stable version of samba 3.0.25a-3 on an embedded linux system as a server and a windows xp. I 'am using truecrypt and sharing de mount directory with the XP machine via samba. Selniux is disabled. Everything works well such as connection or small files transfers but we have a huge problem when we try to transfer a big file (~100 MB) from the client (Windows) to the

Re-encoding Ogg Vorbis files?
I just got myself a portable Ogg player (Jens of Sweden MP-120). It turns out that it doesn't like to play Oggs I've encoded with the 1.0-rc versions of oggenc. Is it in any way possible to re-encode those with as a post-1.0 Ogg Vorbis file? (Without first decompressing them, of course.)

Question about volume level recording in Ogg Vorbis
Hi I recorded many hundred of CDs in Ogg Vorbis with exactly the same parameters. I can see very big difference of volume level from one CD to another when I play it onto my computer or my portable device (iRiver HP120). So, I have two questions : * Is the reason of this fact is that it's depends on the volume level at burning time of the original CD ? If not, what is the reason ? * Is

Any and all attempts to connect to our samba server, packaged in the redhat RPM found on samba.org, have failed. The allow statement is set to localhost, x.y.z. where x.y.z is our class C(ended with a period, as per the online help in SWAT.) Local connections via smbclient work beautifully, but connections from any other machine fails. I've followed the troubleshooting procedure to the

4.3p2: call for testing
Hi all. As most folks on this list will know, OpenSSH 4.3p1 had some problems with login recording under some configurations. This has been resolved in the current tree and we are looking at rolling a 4.3p2 release to address them. For the most part the changes are fixes only; the ChangeLog since 4.3p1 is below in its entirety. There's one other change that is currently still not decided,

Patch for 'packet.c' in openssh-3.6.1p1
Hello, I just managed to compile openssh-3.6.1p1 on Ultrix/MIPS. One of the fixes needed for this is the following. It's because of: --- According to the Changelog - markus at cvs.openbsd.org 2002/12/10 19:26:50 [packet.c] move tos handling to packet_set_tos; ok provos/henning/deraadt --- This IP_TOS is now nicely stuffed in a function, but that function should be #defined
