nfs root filesystem problem
Hi ,
I am doing some tests with klibc 1.1.16. I would like to have my
root file system on an nfs export , but the /etc folder it to be mounted
from a different nfs export.
I am using 2.6.15.1 with initrd ramdisk initramfs nfsroot etc
compiled in. My pxelinux.cfg looks like this:
default opteron
label opteron
kernel gentoo/vmlinuz-opteron
append initrd=gentoo/initramfs.img ip=dhcp

password authentication failing for winbind
I originally posted this issue with the heading "winbind: challenge/response
password authentication failed". I was using the redhat 7.3 samba 2.2.3 rpm
then. I've upgraded to 2.2.5, but all that's changed is the return message.
wbinfo -a VENUS0+tassadar%torque
used to get me:
plaintext password authentication succeeded
challenge/response password authentication failed

help with rebuilding md0 (Raid5)
Sorry, this is going to be a rather long post...Here's the situation; I
have 4 IDE disks from an old snap server which fails to mount the raid
array. We believe there is a controller error on the SNAP so we've put
them in another box running CentOS 5 and can see the disks OK.
hda thru hdd looks like this
Disk /dev/hdd: 185.2 GB, 185283624960 bytes

Thanks Guus
I have one more question.
- We see several log messages that we dont currently understand - Can you
comment on what they mean and if they are concerning? I've obfuscated IP's
and node names so please ignore those. Our tinc daemon command is: tincd -n

Undeleting files in ext3 (Newbie-question)
Recently I've encountered a problem, and now I would preciate any help
about being able to undelete files.
My /var filestructured is mounted at /dev/hdc1
Part of my /etc/mtab looks like this:
/dev/hdc1 /var ext3 rw 0 0
I'm using the e2fsprogs-1.23-2 package currently installed with Redhat 7.2
So, could anyone give me a hint of how things could be done to find
deleted inodes?

Harddisk gone bad
Hi all,
I know this is the EXT3 list, and my problem is with an EXT2 filesys, but I cannot seem to find a more suitable list on this server, and I have seen a lot of knowledge go by on this list and in the archives, so I thought I'd give it a try anyway...
Here goes nothing:
I am in a terrible problem: My data disk on my Linux server has gone bad, with approx 18 GB of data on it, and I

Newbie question on file source
Hi,
Please correct me if I''m wrong but it seems to me that in the case of a
remote file source the path must contain the plain filename after the
module and paths with directory elements are not supported.
What I wanted is the following:
+++++ fileserver.conf +++++
[system]
path /services/puppet/common/
allow *
+++++ site.pp +++++++++++++

File System corruption
Hi,
Yesterday I nuked an old fat32 partition on my hard drive using fdisk. I
just destroyed the partition and then created a new linux partition. Then I
created an ext3 filesystem with the following command
mkfs.ext3 -j /dev/hdc1
Everything seemed fine so I went ahead and moved all my music (MP3s and
FLACS) onto that partition.
This morning when I turn on my computer I can't mount that

Strange "IMAP connection broken (server response)" errors
Hello,
We upgraded one of our dovecot servers to debian stretch with dovecot

We enabled raw logging at the server side and it shows normal IMAP

Do software raids don't dance Samba?
Hey all,
well, first of all (even if it's quite late as it's in version 3.0.7 already): thanks a lot to all who
are developing and supporting Samba! I'm new to Linux and I really like the way things
are happening on this OS. But now, I've reached a point where I have to raise the white
flag...
It seems to me like - at least my - software raid can't dance Samba. I've got

HI, I am trying to find out why an old slower machineis faster than a new
faster machine.
I have a RedHat 6.2 server installation, it runs samba and I have been very
happy with it.
Filesystem is:-

Ext3 filesystem aborting journal at random times (Maxtor 300GB disk)
Hi,
Sorry if this is an old and fixed issue but I can't really seem to find
a definitive explanation/fix to this in the mail lists. Ever since I
upgraded to FC2 my server randomly decides that it can no longer access
the disk and "aborts" the ext3 journal leaving it read-only as
expected. I've seen the same errors on other mail list, explained away
as disk or disk cable

Any ideas on splitting my profiles directory
I have 2 250gig drives in my machine and one has 50 gig on it and the
other with my profiles directory in it has 219 gig. Is there a way to
"split" my profiles directory. These are ide drives and I will not be
mirroring them. My entry in smb.conf reads:
[profiles]
path=/data/profiles
browsable = Yes
readonly = no
create mask = 600
directory mask = 700

I've been wrestling with a problem with drdb and centos. I have
