There's a descriptive error in the log.smbd, but I can't see what to do about it really (the rest of the, admittedly fairly ancient system, is the same base system as the previous 3.5.5 - only a couple of security updates were patched in during downtime). Digium has discontinued their ATA iaxy adapter; don't blame them, too expensive so they can not compete. I just updated from 4.8.2 to 4.8.3 and had very similar effects: Login was no longer possible with 4.8.3 - log file was full of "ldb: Failed to unlock db" messages.
