Questions on smbclient messaging
I'm running Samba v2.0.5a on a RedHat v6.0 system. This server
provides SMB shares to Win98, OS/2 and Linux clients. Everything is
running fine with the Win98 and OS/2 clients, but I have a few
questions regarding Samba and Linux clients.
1. Is there a way for Linux systems to receive SMB messages?
Something analogous to Windows' "WinPopup" or OS/2's "Network

Problems building zaptel 1.4.4
Hi,
I'm having trouble compiling zaptel 1.4.4 on SUSE 10.1. I'm really
only interested in getting ztdummy to work because this is a dev
machine with no zaptel h/w. SUSE 10.1 is a 2.6 kernel:
asterisk-dev:/home/hugh # uname -r
2.6.16.13-4-default
It seems that my problem is related to autoconf.h - I cannot find that file:
asterisk-dev:/home/hugh # find / -name 'autoconf.h'

--fuzzy search over to-be-deleted files to catch moved files and directories
Hi,
I use rsync via rsnapshot to backup a large collection of files.
Using "--fuzzy" already saves me a lot of time by discovering most
renames that happen within a directory. Therfore I already use the
"--delete-after" option.
Now the question is, if fuzzy search could be extended to search for
moved files across directory borders. If for example I move pictures

NT passowrd change problem
I've just started using 1.9.18p4 and have gotten the NT password changing
working great except for one problem. When I try to change a password on a PDC
that's on a different subnet (and hence a different domain), I get the following
error:
/var/local/etc/samba/etc/smbpasswd: machine pdom1 rejected the password change:
Error was : code 2245
I know what errors 2243 and 2246 mean but what

users access rights
Hello,
I'm running samba v2.0.5a and I have some problems with settings users access
rights to our Projects share.
We have a projects share with project directories:
\\XX\Projects\P1 ... P5
and 6 people : U1 ... U6
All users must have primary group "users".
I need to set permissions for each Px directory and each Ux user.
(For ex.: U1,U2 has rwx for P1/* U2,U3,U6 has

Syntax for mounting Samba shares under Linux?
I'm having a hell of a time mounting Samba shares under Linux. Both
server and client are running kernel v 2.2.1x on otherwise RedHat v6.0
systems.
The machine running the Samba (v2.0.5a) server is working great.
Directories and printers are easily accessable from Win98 and OS/2.
It's Linux as a SMB *client* that is giving me problems.
I can easily mount shares from a command prompt

slow concurrent accesses
Helo all
I'm having performance problems with samba v2.0.3/freeBSD3.2 when
there's more than one client using the same share.
Every thing works, but very slowly - about 30 seconds to
open an Access table. When there is only 1 client, it
takes about a second. The server is almost 100% idle.
I tried samba v2.0.5a on a Linux and the problem also
exists.

Path of print job data through Samba?
Can someone please point me to an overview on how printing works with
Samba v2.0.5a?
As far as I can tell, there are 3 directories involved when printing
to a Samba-shared printer on a Linux system:
/tmp/
/var/spool/samba
/var/spool/lpd/printername/
I was under the impression that incoming files were written to /tmp,
then copied to the printer-specific directory, then printed.

Bug with syncing browser lists with a NetBIOS scope ID in place
Howdy all -- I have discovered a bug in samba (I'm running v2.0.5a) when a
NetBIOS scope ID is being used. Essentially, samba will use the configured
scope ID for everything except for when nmbd tries to do a node status on the
PDC as part of syncing the browser lists; when it does that node status, it
does it *without* the scope ID, and it fails.
Our network consists of a main IP subnet

Why does Samba 2.0.6 like other systems but not itself?
I'm running samba on a SPARC20 running Solaris 2.4.
I have been running v2.0.5a successfully for quite some time.
I've tried a couple of times to move up to 2.0.6 but there seems
to be a problem that I can't diagnose easily.
2.0.6 builds with no problems
2.0.6 installs with no problems
2.0.6 starts up with no problems
smbstatus returns correct info with no problems

Program No Longer Can Save
Last week, Jammer Pro6 (a midi music program) could save its files just fine.
Today, I get that "program closing" wine errorbox and that's that.
What might be causing this? Running Debian Sid.

Problem with smbclient->MSDOS Server
Hi All,
Here's an interesting one... I need to be able to connect smbclient on a
linux machine to a dos based machine, which is running MSCLIENT and the
WG1049 patch. I can browse to the machine and see all the files from
Network Neighbourhood in Windows, but if I try and go in with:
smbclient \\GAUGE1\C, or even just smbclient -L GAUGE1
all I get is:
Added interface ip=10.0.1.1

Indexing Ogg files for faster seeking
I've developed an indexer which embeds a keyframe index track in Ogg
files. It embeds the index in its own track, so that players that don't
understand or don't want to use the index can just ignore it.
Ogg needs this to make seeking over networks faster and more efficient.
Currently we must do a bisection search when seeking, which usually
takes aound 6 HTTP requests, give or

Different y-axes
Hi All,
I have checked everything I could find abot graphics, but still cannot
solve the problem.
Are there any ways to make a graph that plots two lines and two
different y-axes, each of them has a scale that is related to the
respective line. For example, y1 has a range 1:50 and y1 ranges 0:1. The
x-axe is the same for both.
Thank you in advance.

Syncing file with reference to another one
I have the following situation: file2 on remote host and file1 on
localhost. file1 and file2 are mostly the same. Simply running
rsync remotehost:file2 file2
will actually transfer the entire file. But I would like to use the
factt that I have local file1 that is mostly similar to file2. I.e.
how can I make rsync to use file1 as a reference while transferring
file2? (cp file1 file2 locally and
