DFS root only works for more recent Windows clients
I've been testing DFS roots and I'm finding that while Vista and 2008 Server clients can connect with no problems, Windows XP Pro and 2003 Server clients fail. This seems like it's the wrong way round - Samba usually has more difficulties with recent Windows versions than older ones - but I can only assume that there's some registry/policy change between the versions. If anybody

Puppet's Search function
Hello all, I have read through the sparse documentation on the Search (intentionally capitalized to differentiate from the verb) function as well as searched the group list (and mail archives) with little success to finding an answer. It is my understanding that I want to use the Search function to achieve my goal. I would like to know: a) is my understanding about the purpose of this function

nagios_service types and "name"
It seems that the nagios_service type will not write out the "name" property of nagios service objects. I had thought this was an oversight or a bug, till I saw this thread: http://www.mail-archive.com/puppet-bugs@googlegroups.com/msg10387.html which seems to imply that this is a deliberate "feature". Is this prohibition on "name" really the desired behaviour?

I am trying to test stand alone puppet manifests invoking /usr/bin/ puppet. Is there a way to override current hostname with some other value? I have tried with no success: FACTER_hostname=foo /usr/bin/puppet manifest.pp Regards, Thomas --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users" group.

Is it possible to conditionally replace a file ?
As far as I can tell, the "replace" parameter is all or nothing. What I am looking for is something like the exec/onlyif parameter that I can use to conditionally replace a file. Any thoughts ? “Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.” Bill Waterson (Calvin & Hobbes) -- You received this

Polycom or Linksys phones bootp tftp config setup
Hi All, Has anyone gotten the polycoms or the linksys phones to accept oprtion 66 on the dhcp request for the address of the tftp config server? We have the dhcp server issuing the proper IP of the tftp server, but the phones just sit there and never try to contact the tftp server for their configs. We can see the proper option going from the dhcp to the phones with ethereal trace. Thanks JR

Asterisk on Mini-Box M300
Hi, Did anyone try to install Asterisk on the Mini-Box M300 with a Versa mini-ITX board 1GHz VIA x86 CPU? The box looks promissing, but I am not sure if Digium cards are compatible with the mother board (Versa mini-ITX) Also I am not sure if the 1GHz VIA processor can handle a Digium 24 port analog board, or an E1 digital board. If anyone had tried the Mini-Box, the processor, of the mother

Differences between puppet and puppetd
Hi all, I am using Puppet to execute an Expect script (http://expect.sourceforge.net) on a client. The Puppet recipe, test.pp, is: exec { ''/root/test.exp'': command => ''/root/test.exp'', logoutput => true } The recipe runs correctly when run using ''puppet --debug --verbose test.pp'': debug: /Stage[main]//Exec[/root/test.exp]:

Zone Scalability
I''m happily running two four zone/four nic shorewall firewall configuratoins. Great software, works as expected everytime! We are conteplating a larger and more complex firewall configuration that may include as many as twelve zones with trying to cram as many as 8+ interfaces into a single machine. Are there any draw backs to this amount of zones and interfaces into a single

Shorewall, PPTP and Samba
Good Morning Everyone, I have a server that runs Shorewall/Samba/PPTP (Poptop). When we try to connect to the PPTP server from outside of the company, the Windows XP pro client can establish the connection. We can then ping the server and the clients behind the server without any problem, but the issue becomes that we cannot map to any of the shares on the samba server or to any client for that

Using the PBX Directory from a Blackberry
Hi All, A couple of customers called complaining that folks were dialing into their PBX trying to use the Directory to locate users, from a Blackberry, and getting frustrated due to the incompatibility of dialing alpha characters on the the qwerty keyboard and not getting through. The issue of course is the Directory application only recognizes numeric digit tones, not alpha characters (not sure

Can we use MySQL native connector for ARA?
Hello Everyone, The documentation suggests using unixodbc for asterisk realtime. Is there any way we can just use native database clients such as libmysqlclient from MySQL? The native clients tend to be more up-to-date. Thanks in Advance, Nick.

Win2k joining Samba 2.2.2 domain.
Hello, everyone. I'm trying to make Samba 2.2.2 a PDC for Win2000 clients. I believe that I have set the Linux Samba machine up correctly. For your review, these are the steps that I have taken: * compile Samba 2.2.2 from source, no extra options. * make; make install. (to /usr/local/samba) * groupadd machines (for my machine trust accounts) * groupadd smbadm (samba domain admin group) *
