wine and microsoft word file write errors ???
Hello all, Wine is getting solid enough that it is appropriate for some real work, however it still is failing write with write errors from MS Word. Updates, reads, edits, fonts, etc all seem to be fine. However any write causes a disk full or permissions error. I am running as root root in this case and other programs under wine write w/o error. If it is any clue the file name shows up as

Samba newbie problems
Hi I have recently installed samba on a RH7.0 box. This box has win98 + linux rh7 installed and both os's are running well. The F drive on windows is FAT32 and is mounted r/w on linux RH7. Works fine. I also have a Win98se machine that needs to have full read/write access to some partitions on the RH7 box. Samba was found ideal for such setup. The problem I have is that I can't write to

BUG REPORT : SWAT on Samba 2.0.7
Hi, Nice little bug for you... However, now when I boot up, I am getting the following errors: ext3: No journal on filesystem ide3(34,7) mount: error 22 mounting ext3 pivotroot: pivot_root(/sysroot,/sysroot/initrd) failed: 2 umount /initrd/proc failed: 2 Freeing unused

non-English filenames (one more attempt)
Speaking of the low answer-to-question ratio, here's a question I posted a week ago but did not get a single answer. Please help me! Before posting, I've searched lots of docs (unsuccessfully), and the problem is critical for me. I have a Win98 machine with Russian file names. As suggested in many places, I put the following into smb.conf: client code page = 866 character set =

preserving unix->win file permissions for backup via samba?
I am having difficulty in try to preserve permissions on Unix files that are copied from the samba server onto a Windows98 system, and then copied again via samba back to an 'upload' directory on the samba server. Specifically, I am sharing "/etc" (samba read only) for backup purposes, and while logged in as "root" on the windows system, I can drag and drop these files

Win2k and Win9x printer drivers from 2.0.7?
Hello, All. Is it possible to have a Samba 2.0.7 server provide printer drivers for both Windows 98 and 2000 clients? I'm currently delivering Win98 drivers with great success, but we're beginning to have Windows 2000 clients on the network and I've been unable to trick Samba 2.0.7 into providing the proper files. Note that the Samba server provides just file and print services;

Time out From Win98 to Samba 2.0.7 Share
I have a user (Win98 SE) that will open a file (take for example, a Quickbooks file) on a Samba share (RH6.2/Samba 2.0.7) and enter stuff into it. After a while, it says the connection was lost to the server, and when they try to open the file again, it says it's locked by the same user. I checked the log files on the server, and I get connection reset by peer errors in the workstation's

File cacheing problem?
I have a Linux box (Pentium III processor, 256M RAM) running kernel version 2.4.3, and smbmount version 2.0.7. The Linux box has a Windows 2000 Server share mounted via "mount -t smbfs ...". I am running into what seems to be a cacheing problem. I am doing software development on this share, editing the files from a Win98 workstation, and compiling on the Linux box. However,

pxelinux and bar
Has anyone been able to boot a bartpe image successfully using pxelinux or does anyone know if this is impossible? For those who don't know, bartpe is a legitimate way to make a trimmed down installation of Windows XP or Server 2003 using your installation media. For more information on bartpe see: http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder Basically the pebuilder gathers the minimum files needed to

OT: WinNT(2000) player to open files with unicode names?
Sorry for posting somewhat off-topic... Most my music files have names in hebrew (FAT32 partition). I dual-boot between a hebrew win98 (where these files are opened nicely by winamp, freeamp and any other program) and a hebrew win2000, where windows media player is the only program I've seen so far to open them. All others say "can't open file ???? ?? ???.ogg" (or .mp3) - both

After USB boot problems on Gigabyte GA-M55Plus-S3G
As I said before, booting is bigger than one bootloader. I am replying to what I think was asked. I might have misunderstood the questions. Whichever the case, this email is less about Syslinux itself. If this is considered too far off-topic in the Syslinux Mailing List, please receive my apologies. > > I still have the factory-set contents of my three USB sticks. A small

FW: pxelinux and bar
Have a look at the 911cd forums. I wrote the initial thread on RAM booting WinPE. To answer to question... memdisk won't work with Windows. Windows uses 32bit access (direct HW access) and memdisk relies on the BIOS. Any programs that don't use the BIOS disk interfaces will not work. The other problem is the allocation of memory. Windows doesn't respect the memdisk allocation.
