Samba 2.2.8.a for Solaris
Hi, I just downloaded and installed samba2.2.8.a on a sun4u sparc box running Solaris8. The installation process completed w/o errors and I can now confirm that by "$pkginfo -l samba". I can even start and stop samba by "/etc/rc3.d/S99samba.server start" and see that smbd and nmbd processes are running. However, I can not find the "configure" file in the source

Whats all this Linux business anyway?
Alright lads, I'm Rick Masters and I know very little about networks, but for some mad reason I have been given the job of setting up a Linux File Server on an NT network. How the dickens does that work? Anyway I need as much help as you can be bothered to give me. And there is a free pizza in it for the guy who helps me get it working :-) You are all super and great fun (I'm sure).

Newby questions about using samba
Yes, I created the unix user and a Samba user as instructed in the Wiki. According to the package manager, my Samba version is 4.7.6.? Would you say upgrading is still in order? The test I mentioned was entirely using Linux machines.? I first tried using smbclient from the Linux server machine (I'm not sure if this would actually work, but it seems like it should) and I also tried it

Illegal instruction: 4 (core dumped) when running testparm & [sn]mbd with default config
I'm running FreeBSD 8 on a Sheevaplug (ARM5 processor) I compiled and installed Samba 3.3.9 from ports using defaults and defaults for dependencies. I left the smb.conf file untouched, ran testparm and immediately received the coredump. The same happens running smbd and nmbd. Can anyone help me resolve? http://old.nabble.com/file/p26879957/testparm.core.gz testparm.core.gz -- View this

mainboard recommendations
Hi, As it has been brought to my attention (by several parties), my current MB does not support VT-d. Since I don''t feel like purchasing a brand new system, I have searched for replacement MB-s that would fit into my existing uATX case, support my C2D CPU, and support at least 4x2GB ram. I have narrowed it down to the following four models: SUPERMICRO MBD-C2SBM-Q-O (Q35 chipset)

I have a pcwin3.11. I was mapping solaris 2.5 with samba2.0.5 fine. I added the solaris2.7 system with samba2.0.7 to this small lan. Actaully this solaris 2.7 box was another 2.5 box that I upgraded it. I ftped the smb.conf file from the solaris2.5 box to the solaris 2.7 box so that this way the two solaris systems match and that pcwin3.11 will work with both equally well. I even mated the

Samba, Winbind, and netatalk on Solaris 8
I am having difficulty getting Netatalk to authenticate using NT Domain via Winbind. I have Samba successfully installed, and winbindd is working and running. (Tested via wbinfo) I have placed pam_winbind.so in the /usr/lib/security directory, and have installed netatalk with the --with-pam option, but I still cannot seem to get it working. Any help would be appreciated. John Helt Systems

When to restart samba
If I understand correctly, in order to have the smb.conf file applied you need to restart smbd. Is "service smbd reload" sufficient (which does a "killproc smbd -HUP")? Will this kill any active connections to samba resources causing user disruption? Or is this a seamless process that can be carried out midday? I ask because if I need to kill all user connections to

Lots of Samba (smbd) processes
Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew why there would be so many Samba (smbd) processes running on my SCO OpenServer 5.0.5 system? I found an awful lot of them running, much more that what I would expect given the number of Windows PC's on the network. One of the users was having trouble accessing a file on the SCO system, and that is when I discovered this. I actually had to write a program

ps -ef | grep mbd reports only mbd
Again, Following Carter's book, and after starting smbd and nmbd with " smbd -D ; nmbd -D" I do a "ps -ef | grep mbd". Only nmbd is report with it's PID. smbd never is reported. Jerry's book [2nd ed.] states that both should show up with their respective PIDs. I have searched through over one hundred pages of documentation and cannot find the answer as to

Expectations: actual vs. published
Hi again, I'm hoping this will make it to the list. I'm still puzzled by the behavior of the smb daemon. Jerry Carter's book and talk at the recent Linux World Expo state that after starting nmbd and smbd with e.g. "smbd -D ; nmbd -D" that a "ps -ef | grep mbd" should return the PIDs of both smbd and nmbd. I have downloaded and installed both a rpm

Samba4 - global catalog (GC) cannot be contacted using Windows 7 RSAT
Hi Rowland, In fact currently in my test environment using the same version of OS 6.10 and Samba 4.8.5. I ran 'netstat -plaunt | egrep "ntp|bind|named|samba|?mbd"', I have :::3268, :::3269, I do not see 0.0.0.0:3268 and 0.0.0.03269. While I use a Windows PC join to my test domain, I have no issues with GC. Not sure how the GC problem can happen but seems to me it looks like a
