Could see the share
Hi, Samba world:
It is my first time to use samba to share a folder from a solaris 7 to our
windows 2000 clients. After I have the following, I could not see the unix
share point. Your help is highly appreciated!
1) Install samba 2.0.5.
2) done the following:
Edit /etc/services and make the following changes.

Samba 3.0.4. on Solaris 5.7
I tried to install samba 3.0.4 and does not work.
Every time I did 'PKILL -HUP inetd'' it does not start the samba daemon.
I have the three lines on the bottom of the inetd.conf:
netbios-ssn stream tcp nowait root /usr/local/sbin/tcpd
/usr/local/samba/sbin/smbd smbd
netbios-ns dgram udp wait root /usr/local/sbin/tcpd

This is a small home LAN - two boxes running Mandriva 2005LE, four assorted
windows boxes and one box running Mandrake 10.0, with samba giving file

Hello,
I'm trying to setup a Samba 4 sever (Alpha 18) over Centos 6 32 bits. I have

runaway smbd hogging system & ethernet cable bandwidth
Greetings all;
I've probably got something miss-configured, but I have an
intermittent smbd problem, where it will use 15% or so of this
machine and nearly all the much slower firewall box.
I'll try to give enough data here, so my apologies about the length of
this post.
The installed samba versions on this very heavily patched RH8.0
machine are:

netbios-ssn/tcp: unknown service
Sorry if this is such a basic question but I couldn't find anything about this in the FAQs/HowTos/Digest.
I've compiled samba-1.9.18p3 on SunOS4.1.3_U1.
When I tried to run smbd via inetd.conf (SIGHUP), I always get the following on the console.
inetd[590]: netbios-ssn/tcp: unknown service
I've edited the /etc/services to add:
netbios-ssn 139/tcp
And the /etc/inetd/conf with

smbd hanging because netbios-ssn TCP connexion not seen as down
Hello,
(Samba 3.0.21c / Linux 2.4.27)
a smbd process was hanging on a file server since one day. This smbd
process was locking some files on the server, and that was causing some
share violation for a Windows user (well, that what I think).
I did a lsof on the smbd process, and I saw that the TCP netbios-ssn
connection was still seen as established with the machine of the windows
user that

hosts allow option is not applaying without restart smbd
Hai,
As Harald showed, this is a known thing, this did hit samba, after the multi threaded support.
See also : systemctl cat smbd.service
For what works what not.
For a reload the kill -HUP MAINPID is, as i know, the only thing that works atm.
Is this a AD DC or a member? ( sorry didnt follow the complet thread ) this catch my eye just now.
Imo, for a member it should work, but i've

Greetings all,
See below for postinstall and remove scripts for the above release for
those
who may have wondered why they didn't work. Minor changes, but those

work.
Find these scripts in ../samba-1.9.18p10/packaging/Solaris/pkg-specs.

AIX 4.3.3 smbd won't start
Hello,
I have just downloaded Samba 2.2.7.a and I have tried to set it up on
AIX 4.3.3 and am not having luck.
Last week I installed samba on my linux machine and it works pretty
well. The boss asked on Friday if I could set it up on my AIX machine.
I have samba installed in /usr/local/samba.
After running /usr/local/samba/smbd -D and /usr/local/samba/nmbd -D I
can do this

hosts allow option is not applaying without restart smbd
Hello.
I have a lot of servers with CentOS 7 and samba 4 (classic domain
controllers), differnt versions (4.4.4, 4.6.2...).
I have found that changes hosts allow option are not applaying without
restart smbd.
I have tried:
systemctl reload smbd.service
killall -1 smbd
pkill -HUP smbd
smbcontrol smbd reload-config
but client I have added does not have access.
I see strange messages in system

Samba 3.0.11 port and install issue to solaris 8
Hi Samba Team
I have ported samba 3.0.11 to Solaris 8 because of the security warning
for Samba 2.2.8a
but it will not start from inetd. I have taken 3 weeks to find that it
starts OK as a standalone daemon
using a startup script /etc/init.d/samba
#!/bin/sh
# Samba startup
case $1 in
'start')
echo "Starting smbd..."

Can't run SAMBA from inetd
I'm trying to start SAMBA from the inetd. I have added the port numbers
to /etc/services:
netbios-ns 137/udp
netbios-ssn 139/tcp
To my inetd.conf I have added:
netbios-ssn stream tcp nowait root /usr/local/samba/bin/smbd
netbios-ns dgram udp wait root /usr/local/samba/bin/nmbd
After this I killed any samba-prosecces, and refreshed the inetd with:

Multiple interfaces
I have tried to set up Samba on my Solaris 2.5.1 with 2 interfaces (le0,
le0:1 - one network card with two IP addresses). But all I could see is
throught the default ports 137 and 139.
In my /etc/inetd.conf, I have:
netbios-ns dgram udp wait root /opt/samba/bin/nmbd nmbd
-s/opt/samba/lib/kes.smb.conf
netbios-ssn stream tcp nowait root /opt/samba/bin/smbd smbd

INETD Question.
I'm currently running version 2.0.7 of samba(CIFS9000). I have HPUX 11.x
installed on the samba server. When I try to run this from inetd it doesn't
work. I can run a startup script that runs the smbd as a daemon and it works
fine. But if I try to run it from inetd it won't start. The previous version
of Samba 1.9.18p10 that I had on this server worked fine. Is this a bug in
