dos filemode (S)
The default behavior in Samba is to provide UNIX-like behavor where only the
owner of a file/directory is able to change the permissions on it. However,
this behavior is often confusing to DOS/Windows users. Enabling this
parameter allows a user who has write access to the file (by whatever means)
to modify the permissions on it. Note that a user belonging to the group

nmbd Problem
Hello,
I am using samba 2.0.4b on Linux 2.0.36.
Since I changed some of the parameters in my smb.conf I have a very strange
Problem. Everytime my Samba-Box wins the browselist election process two
nmbds are started and my WinXX-Clients do not get access to samba (I could
see the server but not access the shares nor login to the domain).
smbclient -L server from server works fine. From another

Samba seems to be working - but Linux client can't see windows machines
I'm not sure whether this is a samba problem or not - but thought
someone on the list will probably know.
After quite a bit of fiddling - I think Samba is now doing what I want
it to - providing file and printer sharing for my windows machines.
However - my Centos 5.1 Linux box Can't browse the windows machines from
the gnome/nautilus interface. I know the windows machines are

WINS isn't working correctly and I think somebody is trying to exploit a security hole...
Pardon the long log file but I'm fairly new to WINS servers and probably
don't know what I'm doing.
We've have two subnets (lets call them xxx.xxx.xxx.??? and yyy.yyy.yyy.??)
I have one samba/linux server on both networks xxx.xxx.xxx.2 and yyy.yyy.yyy.2.
xxx.xxx.xxx.2 is set up to be a domain master and yyy.yyy.yyy.2 is setup to
be a local master with xxx.xxx.xxx.2 as its master.

Can I have oplocks enabled without problems?
Hi,
I used to have a win NT to serve small office networks comprised of windows
clients. During the last months I have made a considerable effort to learn
enough about linux in order to explore it's capabilities for that
application. In the area of file & print sharing samba still looks as the
best choice. I am using it in my office for some weeks now and I am quite
happy with it. Yet I

Hello
I'm seeing this issue when connecting from XPSP3 to Ubuntu 10.04

Is there another way of doing the bindings so that the Windows share doesn't run on TCP/IP but will still work with SAMBA? If so, where in the docs should I be looking, and if not - maybe this should be something discussed by the SAMBA dev people..
Regards,
Marc.

I can't get multiple interfaces to work
I've looked through all the doc and searched the list archives, but I just
can't seem to get it to work. I have a Linux box with 5 ethernet
interfaces, 3 of which have winboxes I'd like to include in my little Samba
network. I'm able to get it far enough for each winbox to see the linbox,
but they can't see each other.
Here's my setup:

Problem with a program called winbox
This winbox application is one that I use to manage routers for myself
and my customers, so it is unlikely that there are many others trying to
use it. I have used this program (through several versions of the
program itself) on my Fedora laptop from FC8 all the way to Fedora 14.
I don't know what wine versions that spans, but it's over 5 years and it
has worked flawlessly. When I first

Samba windows mount problem - some files and directories can't be seen even though they exist!
Hi.
I have mounted a Windows 2000 Pro computer under linux using:
mount -t smbfs -o username=phill,password=xxxxx //winbox/drivec /mnt/winbox
I can then jump into /mnt/winbox/ and navigate around the Win 2000 box.
But...
For some reason some of the files and directories on the windows
computer are not showing up.
For example, I have just moved a heap of wav files for our
