SWAT
I was playing with this on my test machine, (redhat 5.2, samba 2.0.3)
worked great, and I was really impressed.
So I decided to install this on my office machine. (redhat 4.2, samba
2.0.3) and the only significant difference is that on the
office machine, I use encrypted passwords.
I cannot get swat to authenticate on the second machine. That is, no
matter what account, password combination

setting up swat
I've looked in /usr/local/samba/swat for help
and even the samba source docs and can't
find anything on setting up swat.
I've also looked at samba.org/samba/docs,
but can find a swat setup doc.
Can some please point me in the right direction?
thanks,
daniel

Can not connect to SWAT
Hello, Until yesterday (7 nov 03) I had a mostly working 2.27 samba
running on my redhat 9 box that I configured via SWAT. Now I can not get
back into SWAT & I also (in a useless attempt to make it work) upgraded
to samba 3.0 I get the following when trying to start SWAT:
An error occured while loading http://matrix1:901/:
Could not connect to host matrix1 (port 901)

Install problems with RedHat 7.0 RPM for 2.2.0
I just went through upgrading from 2.0.7 on Redhat 7.0 using the binary RPM
provided by samba.org and noticed a problem with the swat install.
It seems that the swat binary in the RPM is built to look for it's
supporting files in /usr/share/samba/swat whereas the RPM installs said
files in /usr/share/swat. This results in the following error message when
you try to access swat:

swat and pam.d
Hello,
Installed the binary RPM
(http://de.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/redhat/RPMS/7.1/) for samba
2.2.2 on my redhat 7.1 server. I got winbind to work and my samba server is
now using NT usernames and groups. I was very unsure about how modify the
pam.d files. The only file I changed was the /etc/pam.d/samba file. I
pulled this configuration from another mail post.

Authenticating against a Windows 2000 DC?
I apologize in advance if this is a FAQ, but I couldn't find the FAQ document for this list. I also could not find anything relevant in other Samba documentation sources like http://hr.uoregon.edu/davidrl/samba.html.
There seems to be plenty of information about using Samba *as* a DC, but I want to know if I can use Samba *with* a Windows 2000 DC. We have two DCs running Windows 2000, a W2K

SWAT login agony
I've installed the latest/greatest from Samba (3.0.alpha...). I've been
following the directions from this site
(http://samba.linuxbe.org/en/samba/learn/swat.html) on how to set up
SWAT for configuring Samba. The problem I'm running into is logging
into SWAT. I've tried every user imaginable and still no luck. I've
enabled the SWAT service using xinetd, and it actually

Error running SWAT
Running SuSE v9.0 and Samba v3.0.7. I have samba up and running ok with
printer and file shares working peer to peer with Win2000 box. However,
I would like to use SWAT for config purposes, rather than manual edit.
If I run http://localhost:901 I receive a 'connection refused' error
message. I had a look in /etc/services and see these two lines as the
only ones referring to port 901:

I've problems sending the "#" key to the asterisk server extensions, for

swat on red hat 7.2
Hi,
I'm having a minor issue with swat on red hat 7.2. It won't let me make
any changes to the samba server (adding shares, printers, and global
definitions). The buttons to access these simply don't exist. I can view
status, but I can't make any changes (not even restart the daemons).
This works fine on my Debian system. The only real difference that I can
think of is inetd

Problem with SWAT on MacOS X 10.3.3 server
Hi everybody
I have installed SWAT services under MacOS X Server 10.3.3 by adding
the service to Netinfo manager and set enabled = yes in
/etc/xinet.d/swat file.
I try to login as root in Safari (I have enabled the root account),
but keep getting the messages that the name and the password is
incorrect.
Any ideas anyone ?
Best regards
Torsten

Beginner question: serverside singletons?
Hello all, just started tinkering with Rails after reading all the hype about
it. I''m a raw novice with Ruby and (obviously) Rails, but have extensive
experience with serverside Java (J2EE stack, Tapestry, etc). Rails looks
cool, though embedding Ruby code in HTML reminds me unpleasantly of JSP +
Struts and I''m deeply suspicious of all the behind-the-scenes magic going on

Hitting a big mystery here. I've configured samba properly but I would like

large files
I'm reposting this problem (perhaps a bug) now I've got more information on
it. This is another point of view of the situation and I hope someone could
have run into the same trouble before (and solved it :-))
This is it:
* with ntbackup 2000 I create a 22Gb .bkf file in the windows machine.
* I can copy that file over a samba share and get correct info form the
file in windows

Swat inactive, xinetd issue?
Since I've upgraded to Redhat 7.2 I cannot get swat to work,
I am using the 2.4.7-10 kernal with samba 2.2.7 installed.
I have checked all the applicable files, edited them accordingly as per
Gary Fournerat's
excellent How-to. No joy.
I am pretty certain this is an xinetd issue. I never had this difficulty
with inetd.
I know that SAMBA is running as I can see the server from this
