samba 2.06 caused server self-reboot?
My samba server (solaris 2.6) self-rebooted few times lately. There was no apparent hardware problem. When I checked log.smb file. There were lots of following messages before reboot: [2000/01/04 16:04:08, 0] smbd/nttrans.c:map_share_mode(410) map_share_mode: Incorrect value 0 for desired_access to file \ [2000/01/04 16:04:08, 0] smbd/nttrans.c:map_share_mode(410) map_share_mode: Incorrect

Migrating from 1.9.19-prealpha
Hi, We have been using 1.9.19-prealpha very successfully for over a year and have just started migrating to 2.0.4b, the environment is Sun Sparc running Solaris 2.5.1 and NT 3.51 & 4.0(/sp3). On the servers that have been upgraded, the log files are filling up with some ominous messages, but curiously, users are not reporting any errors at the moment. The following are characteristic of

Access Denied to shares in Lotus Notes and Outlook
Hi All, I don't know if this is a samba problem or not, but if users want to add files as an attachment in Lotus Notes and MS Outlook, and these files reside on samba shares, they get an "access denied" message. This "access denied" message refers to the whole share not only a file. Samba Server version is 3.0.4 on Sparc Solaris 8 acting as AD Member Server (W2K DC).

Linux CIFS client with Samba 2.0.x or 2.2.x ?
Hi. I am experimenting with the Linux CIFS client included with Linux 2.6.6, and I am having some problems. First, I tried to map shares from a Samba 2.0.10 server (old machine). Is this supposed to work at all? The mount succeeds, and I can traverse and list directories, but any attempt to open a file for reading results in "permission denied". The Samba server logs this message:

Access Denied on Error 0 - 3.0.4
Experienced a strange bug in 3.0.4, but I think I've seen Jeremy discussing this with another on the list with respect to root dir access to a share, but can't find a bug in bugzilla. WinXP-SP1 Goes to My Computer/Properties/Device Mangler/Net Adap/Update Driver/Have Disk When the attemp is made to browse the 3.0.4 share they get Access Denied (they are an admin user on the share)

Problem with large files
Hi we have samba 3.0.14a on FreeBSD 5.4. We tried with different kind of locking and oplocks (both enabled and disabled). If we try to copy from a Windows XP client a file larger than 3g, we get these error: Cannot copy XXX. The specified network name is no longer available. We traced this problem in the logs (log level 10) and we got this error ------------ [2006/09/19 10:29:41, 5]

Windows 2K Offline files
Is anyone else experiencing problems with offline files and folders on Win 2K (SP4)? They are set up OK but when the Win2K machine goes off line and files are modified it won't sync back when back on the network. Error message from the file sync on windows is 'Access denied' (on the server) But I can easily do the overwrite manually so permissions are OK. Below is the log (level 10)

Who may delete a file ?
Hi All, I was checking the access rights and a problem (hence a question) appeared: Who can delete a file through Samba ? Suppose we have the following situation: drwxrwxrwx john finance directory -rw-r--r-- jack finance directory/file Under unix everyone can delete the file. Under Samba, the documentation says (due to the Windows sementic) you also need the write access to the

File copy error with Samba 2.2.x and 3.0/Novell/Win2k
Hello, We're experiencing a problem with samba after an upgrade, which only occurs when using a strange combination of software. The problem only occurs with samba 2.2 and higher. This problem does not occur with samba 2.0. We tested this with samba 3.0alpha17, 2.2.2, 2.2.4, and 2.0.10 First off, sticking to procedure, TESTs 1-11 as described in DIAGNOSIS.txt succeed. I've gone as

XP delete problem
We have moved from nt/2000 clients to XP clients and find that now the users cannot delete their own files even though they own them and the permissions are set to 777 on the files. Is this a configuration issue, do I need a newer version, or is this just a way for microsoft to make life difficult? Thanks for the help.

Upgrade broke file locking
Prior to upgrading from RH7.0 to RH7.3 our Samba filserver worked perfectly. Now we are having locking problems. Initially Iused the same samba binaries built on RH70, I tried rebuilding Samba and reinstalling but it had no effect. If user bon opens an M$-Office file they frequently get a 'file is already in use by bob'. Sure enough smbstatus -L shows the file locked by bob, but bob

large file pre-allocation causing Windows error
I'm trying to copy a 400 MB file from a Windows 98 host to a FreeBSD 4.5 Samba server providing access to a FAT32 filesystem. I've got "strict allocate = no", but from what I can see with debug set to 10, it is doing a ftruncate which takes about 50 seconds to complete. It appears that Windows gets impatient and generates an error (while Samba is still waiting for the

Desktop.ini (part) solution
Aha! Although I'm not an everyday samba programmer, I have found a descrepancy between a windows code snippet running on a windows server, and on a samba (2.2.7a, but also earlier) systems. This causes the dreaded Desktop.ini problem (yay!) and probably some others too! The test code in windows: #include "stdafx.h" #include <windows.h> int main(int argc, char* argv[]) {
