Interesting errors...
Greetings, About 2 months ago, we decided to backup our Oracle test servers via samba rather than nfs -- the backups were just taking too long using nfs. No problem mounting the remote file share to the server and the backup took about one-third of the time. Yep, worked good...and still continues to out perform nfs hands down. Problem is - I'm receiving errors on both of the test servers.

xen, fc4, bridging, iptables and conntrack problem
Hi, I''m testing out Xen on FC4. I''m using bridging for networking, as well as iptables to firewall, configured with the standard Fedora ''system-config-security-level'' tool. However I have really strange problem with conntrack not seeming to catch outbound connections. This prevents outbound connections working from dom0. Connections from domU''s

XP start menu
Hello everyone! I have Sabma 3 as PDC on a SuSE 10.1. 1) Using XP Pro I can log the domain but once inside I don't have anything in the start menu nor if I explicitly tell Windows to put in. I.e. I cannot insert MSN icon in start menu nor using right click. 2) Another problem is that on every directory, also on desktop, clicking right button and trying to create a new object only let me

samba with customized ldap backend
I have to assume much, I'll try. So... - No AD, that's some NT4 domain. - No Winbind because Winbind is using samacccountname as user login and not UID. - Issue happens on Linux or UNIX clients. The question is what tool (SSSD, pam_ldap / nss_ldap, nslcd...) are you using to retrieve information from LDAP to forge users on system side. Once you get an answer to this previous question

Samba w/AD auth on AIX, w/o local users
Hi all, I have Sabma v3.6.0 installed on an AIX 6.1 machine (oslevel 6100-07-02). The packages come courtesy of Bill Jojo's pware repository (thanks, Bill! Was going insane trying to satisfy dependencies...). I have joined the host to the AD domain and can authenticate myself against Windows 2008 AD (using AD group memberships, as defined in smb.conf per share), but users who want

Samba client behaviour during a fault condition? (PR#778)
> What happens if the samba server crashes (and reboots) during a > client write (i.e. what state is the client left in?, can it recover > the session and complete the write?, if so, what's the timeout value > before this is no linger the case?) To answer this I'll compare SMB with NFS. NFS is a stateless protocol. The server keeps no state (in theory) about what clients are

Samba 4.2.14 Group Policy (GPO) sync error
OK, I actually now feel a bit bad on this. As we did a lot of debugging without actually finding any solutions my focus went more and more into direction of code bug somewhere in Samba/Kerberos area. I found some references that Samba uses an internal specific version of Heimdal. Though it looks like the Gentoo developers went to disable the built-in Heimdal implementation if favor of a

On both client I am using sssd and pam_ldap for user retrival and modified pam_login_attribute (pam_ldap.conf file) to username instead of uid (by default value) so I am very well

NT profiles on samba server
Hi, there, I put roaming profiles for NT4 users on samba server. In "Domain User Manager", I set "User profile Path" \\abel\profile\%U.pds, here abel is samba server. It works well, but everyday several users complain. Sometime, they cannot login because of roaming profiles. Sometimes, some users cannot run VC or VB. Sometime, I only need to remove ntuser.dat on samba

Sir, As you suggested I have already done this settings ('ldap_user_name =username') 3 year back and due to this our users are able to login in various service like ssh, imap, pop by sssd service but not able to connect/authenticate by samba. As you know in my case due to our customized ldap which start 'uid=numericID' instead of 'uid=username' samba is not able to

Sir, As you told that Samba normaly set uid=Username and not the uidNumber. Here due some requirement we had configured ldap with dn uid="user's emp id" and it is very well working with all the services like nagios anonymous authentication, ssh, smtp, imap authentication, rdesktop means all the possible services but I am very badly stuck with samba authentication. For example

Sir, My setup is able to Samba authenticate by using of SSSD or nslcd but I have to use 102220 (numeric) instead of username. Okay I will explore on nss-pam-ldap, let's see. Thanks for your support/effort/suggestions. Regards, Arun __________________ OK, you have a strange setup, I have suggested how you could possibly configure sssd or nslcd and neither work. I have also pointed out

Join 2012 Server R2 as member to NT domain
Is it still possible to join a Windows 2012 Server R2 system as a member to a 'pre-NT5' Samba (3.6.23) domain controller? The Windows 'Domain Change' GUI errors immediately after failing the SRV lookup for the AD server. Even with the SRV record in place, the GUI fails trying to connect to the non-existent LDAP port. Netdom on the command line tries to work if the DC name
