Memdisk lower memory usage
Greetings, I had a quick question about lower memory usage by memdisk. I've read through the mail archives and found a couple of posted questions but unfortunately no answers. I know the documentation states: "MEMDISK simulates a disk by claiming a chunk of high memory for the disk and a (very small - 2K typical) chunk of low (DOS) memory for the driver itself, then hooking the INT 13h

Interesting logging issue with W2k and smb 2.2.2
We're running Samba 2.2.2 on a Solaris 8 (Sparc) machine. It's not configured as a PDC or BDC, just sharing out home file spaces and printing access. I've searched the archives and can't find anything in the list archives or the bug reports that *quite* matches my "problem". I can't tell if this is an issue with Samba 2.2.2 which may be fixed in 2.2.5 or if this is

Samba Log file format
The samba log files leave something to be desired in both format and management. I'd like to propose a change if I could. Format: Previously, a log entry is cut with date and timestamp and action on a SINGLE line. Now the date and timestamp is on a separate line from the information that you'd look for in a log file (machine name, ip address, connection status for service, etc.) This is

syslinux 3.72 fails where 3.71 didn't
I have written a bash script (see below) to generate bootable SD-USB images using syslinux as booter. The script works OK with versions 3.63 and 3.71, but I get a null pointer error executing /tmp/$SYSLINUX/linux/syslinux -sf -o 16384 SD.img in 3.72. If you execute $ sudo sh SDformat.sh sys then you can test the image easily with qemu $ qemu -hda SD.img ++++++ SDformat.sh

scp doesn't have a 'Use non privileged port' switch
Hi, and another feature request that I got from a debian user and that I think should be included in openssh. Thanks. |Unlike the 'old' ssh (Package: ssh; Version: 1.2.26-1.2)'s scp |openssh's scp does not support the -L option which according to |old ssh's manpage does the following: |> -L Use non privileged port. With this you cannot use |>

Picture upload - picture gets chopped
I implemented the picture upload code from the AWDWR-book.(where it saves the picture to blob-field in db). It worked well on my windows-box, but now I exported my code to Linux-box and when the picture is uploaded, it gets cut. Only the upper 30 % of the picture file is saved to db. Any ideas how to fix this? By the way, the windows-version of the MySQL Query Browser was able to show the

Authentication & Authorisation - Whats the common approach?
Hi, Just wondering what the most popular approach is for authentication and authorisation in a rails application that is deployed and fronted by apache? Also when there are say a couple of rails apps being hosted. Authentication ============== [1] Options would seem to include: * Do it within rails/your app? Use of a "before_filter" per the Rails Recipes book * Use of Apache to
