UTF-8 patch for Samba 2.0.7
See description in the attached patch.
-------------- next part --------------
This quick hack adds primitive support of UTF-8 as a server 'character
set' to Samba 2.0.7. All file, share and user names are stored on server
in UTF-8, and translated into client code page (not UCS2) on the fly.
Additionally, server string conversion is added. Tested with Chinese and
Russian Windows clients.

Tuýrkish Character Set
Hello,
I am new to this list. I have (and all Trukish users of Samba) trouble with
Turkish charactes (iso8859-9)with Samba. I saw some character definition tables
in charcnv.o (in sources). I couldn't understand the logic. A part of the table
for iso8859-2 is
/* MSDOS Code Page 852 -> ISO-8859-2 */
update_map("\241\244\242\364\243\235\244\317\245\225\246\227\247\365");

hebrew characters
I'm trying to use rsync (version 2.6.9) to back up some files. However, a few
of them contain Hebrew characters. While I can back them up, the filenames
come through scrambled (I don't have Hebrew characters anymore). I've tried
the -8 switch, but that didn't work. Any suggestions?
Background:
The files are created on Windows and saved on a samba share (v3.0.24). I can

Seeking for TTS engine supporting Hebrew
I am not aware of any alive project on this field.
My client is interested in it. He told me that Google Translate web
service used to provide pronunciation of hebrew texts, but now speech
button is disabled for Hebrew, and also direct requesting for speech
generation (by Lefteris Zafiris's awsome scripts) fails.
I can work on Asterisk integration by myself, i'd be happy to know of

wine>0.12 + iexpore + Hebrew
Hello,
Since wine-0.13 I cannot run IE to render Hebrew pages. Every time
a Hebrew pages is accessed, I get the following dump.
Does anyone know what was the difference between 0.12 and newer that
could have damaged Hebrew support?
The following dump was done using wine-0.17.... Tried with each version
since 0.13... All the same... So I guess something should be solved.
I will be glad to supply

Wine and hebrew
Hi All,
I'm new to wine- and so far it looks like an amazing piece of software.
I wanted to ask: when I run a win32 app using wine, is there any way to
write hebrew characters at teh text reas?
I'm running Ubuntu, and in gnome, there's no problem to type any Hebrew
character anywhere- I just click <left shift>+<left ctrl>, and type the
hebrew text.
However when I try the

MS Office in Wine: Hebrew backwards
I must install MS Office in Wine on Ubuntu Linux. It installs fine,
but the Hebrew is backwards. Googling the problem led me to this
video, which illustrates the problem:

Does anyone know how to fix this? I am on a full UTF-8 Hebrew locale,
if that is relevant. I installed MS Office 2003 in English on Kubuntu
8.04. Thanks in advance.

A Hebrew stemmer based on libhspell
Hello.
I'm interested in creating a Hebrew stemmer to use with Xapian. Hebrew is a
complicated language to stem, as it uses the semitic "root" system, rather
than prefixes and suffixes, and has many irregularities in accidence
(morphology).
Fortunately, two bright fellows from the Technion University in Israel have
already created a Hebrew morphological analyzer as part of their

BIDI (Hebrew) Support
Hello,
I've looked for a BIDI HOW-TO, but did not find any.
I use wine-0.9.5, and run IE using ies4linux. It works great
including Hebrew showing Hebrew text correctly.
The problem is that I could not write any Hebrew
character... Whenever I type a character I get "?".
So I've looked at wine-bidi issues, and found that I need to
compile wine with icu library. I did! using

Getting htmlParse to work with Hebrew? (on windows)
Hello dear R-help mailing list.
I wish to be able to have htmlParse work well with Hebrew, but it keeps to
scramble the Hebrew text in pages I feed into it.
For example:
# why can't I parse the Hebrew correctly?
library(RCurl)
library(XML)
u = "http://humus101.com/?p=2737"
a = getURL(u)
a # Here - the hebrew is fine.
a2 <- htmlParse(a)

samba 3.0.22 and hebrew file names
Hi
We had an old Sun server running Solaris 2.6 with samba 2.2.2,
Now we upgrade it to Solaris 9 with Samba 3.0.22, but we have one problem.
The file names that are in Hebrew looks on the Windows clients as lines or
squares.
On the old samba server there were no char settings, on the new samba server
I set the char to 862
and the display and unix chars to ISO8859-8 and UTF-8 - it didn't
