[PATCH 01/79] fs: add ctime accessors infrastructure
struct timespec64 has unused bits in the tv_nsec field that can be used
for other purposes. In future patches, we're going to change how the
inode->i_ctime is accessed in certain inodes in order to make use of
them. In order to do that safely though, we'll need to eradicate raw
accesses of the inode->i_ctime field from the kernel.
Add new accessor functions for the ctime that we can

[PATCH 00/79] fs: new accessors for inode->i_ctime
I've been working on a patchset to change how the inode->i_ctime is
accessed in order to give us conditional, high-res timestamps for the
ctime and mtime. struct timespec64 has unused bits in it that we can use
to implement this. In order to do that however, we need to wrap all
accesses of inode->i_ctime to ensure that bits used as flags are
appropriately handled.

[PATCH] add crtime to the snapshot list
From: Anand <anand.jain@oracle.com>
This patch adds creation-time to the snapshot list display,
which would help user to better manage the snapshots when
number of snapshots grow substantially. This patch is developed
and on top of the send/receive btrfs and btrfs-progs repo at

btrfs-convert crashes
I have a 1.5 TB (1,475,720,773,632) partition that I wanted to convert
from ext4 to btrfs. It is currently used as / for ubuntu 10.10.
I booted into 11.04 beta2 and tried a ''btrfs-convert /dev/sdc1'', but
after about 20 minutes it segfaulted.
I performed a:
sck.ext4 -cDfty -C 0 /dev/sdc1
After everything was clean, I downloaded the debugging symbols for btrfs-convert and

really? ;-)
the problem is that there is no standarized way to store metadata in a
WAVE file, like with FLAC tags / vorbis comments in flac files....

lmer model with continuos non normal response variable, transformation needed?
Hi.
I want to do an lmer model but have doubts of what family I should use.
My response variable was originally a proportion, however I standarized it
for each year of data collection (20 in total). After standarizing it I
checked for normality with the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, and it turns out
it is not normal. It ranges from -3 to 4.
Since it is no longer a proportion I can't use a

Perform action after in-place edit
I want to be able to call an action after performing an edit using the
in-place editor macro. I want to update multiple divs so I was
thinking about using an RJS template. However, I can''t figure out how
to trigger another action after the method created by
in_place_edit_for runs. Is there is an option on Ajax.InPlaceEditor
where I can inject some Element.update calls?
Thanks,

[patch V2 00/11] x86/vdso: Cleanups, simmplifications and CLOCK_TAI support
Matt attempted to add CLOCK_TAI support to the VDSO clock_gettime()
implementation, which extended the clockid switch case and added yet
another slightly different copy of the same code.
Especially the extended switch case is problematic as the compiler tends to
generate a jump table which then requires to use retpolines. If jump tables
are disabled it adds yet another conditional to the existing

[LLVMdev] Linking on Windows with LLVM tools
Hi,
Can the tools in LLVM create a Win32 exe or dll file? Or does LLVM
still rely on Binutils and GCC for that? Is it
possible/feasable/wanted that the LLVM toolchain could do this?
Thanks,

R on netbooks et al?
Dear useRs,
With the rise of netbooks and 'lifestyle laptops" I am tempted to get one of these to mainly run R on it. Processor power and hard disk space seem to be ok. What I wonder is the handling and feel with respect to R.
Has anyone here installed or is running R on one of these, and if so, what is your experience? Would it be more of a nice looking gadget than a feasable platform

gzip compression throttles system?
I just had a quick play with gzip compression on a filesystem and the
result was the machine grinding to a halt while copying some large
(.wav) files to it from another filesystem in the same pool.
The system became very unresponsive, taking several seconds to echo
keystrokes. The box is a maxed out AMD QuadFX, so it should have plenty
of grunt for this.
Comments?

Minor idea - "Press any key to boot within 5 second" style of thing...
I like how some cds, such as the windows installer discs will skip
booting from the disc if you accidentally left the drive because they
require you to hit a key to make them actually boot from the disc.
I've kind of tried to emulate this behavior using chain.c32, but, it
requires me to specify which harddrive, and I'd rather see an
independant setup. I've tried localboot -1, but, it

Rails with no direct database access?
Hello all,
I''m having a bit of an internal conflict here. I have a web
application that I need to write (for myself). Fine, right? Well,
this site is for a DNS service that has a client interface for client
APIs to access. I''d like to have all application requests and data
updates/retrieval to go through this interface instead of a database.
Should I even use Rails for

Me too. But it is best to target modern systems when targeting future systems adds an unnecessary cost. When future systems come into being, it is likely because future hardware is making those future systems

outliers using Random Forest
Hello,
Does anybody know if the outscale option of randomForest yields the
standarized version of the outlier measure for each case? or the results
are only the raw values. Also I have notice that this measure presents
very high variability. I mean if I repeat the experiment I am getting very
different values for this measure and it is hard to flag the outliers.
This does not happen with two other
