prompt to overwrite when re-saving file in MS-Excel to samba server
I have a couple users, in a new install of a samba file server on
CentOS 4.2, who are being prompted to overwrite the existing file when
in MS-Excel and simply saving the active spreadsheet. Normally,
File--Save (or just clicking on the disk icon) for an already saved
file will re-save the file without prompting to overwrite.
I have my doubts about whether this could be a server-side issue, and

Excel 'save as HTML' problem with Samba 2.0
Hello,
Eversince I upgraded Samba to 2.0 version I've gotten so many calls from
the users regarding Excel 'save as HTML' problem.
What seems to be happening is that the users cannot save their Excel
spreadsheet as html file when they were able to with the previous Samba
version we had installed (Samba 1.9.18p10).
According to MS 'knowledge database', this is a known MS Excel

Problems saving Excel sheets using Office 97 on a Sambashare
Nathan,
Thanks for the tips. Most of these settings were already in place, but the ones that were not already there I set up, with the exception of the 'force group' setting. I hesitate to try this simply because many of the subfolders under the shared volume are have their access controlled by group, and I didn't want to risk preventing others from accessing their files in the middle

RODBC: problem saving a new table in an "Excel database"
Hi
I am using package RODBC version 1.0-1 under R version 1.7.1 on Windows
XP Pro. I am having problems writing a new table to an (Excel) database
using sqlSave.
I connect to an empty Excel spreadsheet using odbcConnectExcel (which, I
believe, uses the Microsoft Excel Driver DSN). Then I try and save a new
table to the database(spreadsheet) using SqlSave, but obtain an error
message.

Samba 2.0 problem with Excel
I recently upgraded to Samba 2.0, but I have had to revert back to
1.9.18p10 because of problems I could not resolve. I am running Samba
on a Sun Ultra-1 with Solaris 2.6, and I compiled Samba using gcc
v2.8.1.
The problems I was seeing were with saving Excel files. A user might
have a small Excel file and try to save it to their home directory. The
save would work for a long time (5 to 10

Problems saving Excel sheets using Office 97 on a Samba share
Hey all,
We're having some trouble saving Excel documents on our Samba Fileserver. We are moving people over to our Samba box, and have moved most of our documents over.
Now, we have people opening their Excel documents, but are unable to save them. When something is saved, we see this message:
Your changes could not be saved to 'document.xls', but were saved to a temporary document

Can't save new Excel 2003 files to Windows 98 pc's
It's an odd network, but it's 2 separate, somewhat related companies on one subnet for shared printers, etc. I am a computer consultant, but am pretty new to Linux/Samba.
The first company has a newly installed server with CentOS 3.3 (Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.3), running Samba 3.0.11.
The second company has a Windows 98 "server" on it, which should eventually be upgraded to

Office 2000 / Windows 2000
Hi
I have just upgraded to Samba 3.0.0 and have found a problem with Office
2000 running on Windows 2000. Files opened in Word or Excel open fine and
can be saved once without a problem but the action of saving sets the read
only attribute of the file and so subsequent saves do not work. The only way
round this is to close the file, go to Explorer and select the properties of
the file and then un

Excel makes files read-only when users save
I'm having a problem that I've seen people talk about in the list
archives. Unfortunately I haven't found any solutions that work. It is a
documented bug and I've added my story to it.

I'm posting my problem here as well because it is causing me some
serious grief. For the past few months I have been working towards

Problem with Excel on a share with ACLs
Hi,
I am experiencing the problem as described in
http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/kerberos.html#id2562652
Unfortunately the remedy/workaround as described there does not work in the
more general case of ACLs.
Problem description:
- User A owns file F.
- User B has rw access to F via a user ACL
- Group G has rw access to F via a group ACL
- User B edits the excel file F

Strange Excel Wine vers Issue - Sharing Violation
Hello Fellow Samba Users!
I have an issue that I have been trying to understand for a while, and
I have narrowed it down to different "vers=" mount types.
I have only seen this issue manifest itself on Linux clients
(Archlinux) running Microsoft Office in excel (Not that I have tried a
million others). A year or two ago, I thought I solved it by
disabling oplocks, or at least messing

saving from word & excel
hi,
we're using a samba-server over DSL using openVPN and the speed is very
good at browsing directories and quite OK at loading/saving files except
for word & excel where it takes about 20-30 seconds to save even a small
file.
which is no wonder because the following happens in log.smbd when i click
"save" in word, it obviously checks for a bazillion tmp- and lockfiles (

Saving file and file locking problems
I was just with my boss cause he had trouble with some Excel and Word
document on the Samba server. I noticed that when he saves an Excel
document sometimes it takes a lot of time to save and sometimes Excel
stop responding, when that happens the file stays locked on the server
and when he tries to open it back, he can only open it read only. Is
there a reason why it takes so much time to save?

Office (2003) saving excel sheet takes VERY long..
Hi!
Maybe you can help me, would be very nice!
I'm new to the list and I'm very glad that it exists...
A week ago we migrated to samba and since then it's taking very long to
save a 1,8MB excel document. On fast ethernet it takes us about 10
seconds, on wireless lan it can take up to a minute, although
transferring the same amount of data from the very same machine, that is

Saving Splitted Series to Excel via XLConnect
Dear R Discussion List,
I would like to save my data as a xlsx file. But at first
I need to split it and then save each series into a Excel
column. Please take a look at the following code:
dados <- data.frame(matrix(c("2012-01-01","2012-02-01",
"2012-03-01","2012-04-01","2012-05-01","2012-06-01",

Re: Problems with Excel & MS Word files (EVEN - still ANY ideas?)
Hi there,
I'm having exactly the same problem.
If using samba-3.0.13 without ACL's, everything goes perfect.
ACL's on causes the file to get marked read only.
Applied the Patch for MS Excel... No results.
Any ideas?
If you need any info, please ask.
Best Regards,
Bruno Guerreiro

Re: Problems with Excel & MS Word files (EVEN - still ANY ideas?)
Since applying the two patches you emailed me (one for cpu load, one for MS
Excel issues):
All is working fine now except MS Word; don't know if it's entirely related
or a separate issue all together, but figured I'd post the details and see
if you can think of anything; here's the behaior:
Word (apparently) creates a "~384somerandomnamefile.tmp" when a user saves,
