no boot, no message
I have syslinux 5.10 on a 32bit gentoo system. It boots fine. Now I installed another linux system in other partitions of the same drive (a 64 bit system), updated syslinux.cfg, setup the new system as default, and the new entry appears in the menu. Problem is: it doesn't boot. On timeout, it starts counting down again, and that's it. No error message whatsoever. Selecting the old system

Bond & Team: RX dropped packets
Hi all, we are testing CentOS 7 in order to migrate from Scientific Linux 6 / CentOS 6 and we are facing an issue with the network. Trying to configure network with teaming in activebackup mode or also with bonding in mode=1 (active backup as well) we see many RX dropped packets in the bond0 interface (around 10% of the total), 100% RX drops in the backup interface and 0% in the active interface.

16TB ext3 mainstream - when?
Are we likely to see patches to allow 16TB ext3 in the mainstream kernel any time soon? I am working with a storage box that has 16x750GB drives RAID5-ed together to create a potential 10.5TB of potential storage. But because ext3 is limited to 8TB I am forced to split into 2 smaller ext3 filesystems which is really cumbersome for my app. Any ideas anybody?

LVM-snapshot based KVM VMs
Good m/d/n guys, wanted to put idea through you before trying to implement this. So afaik LVM snapshots basically don't take any "real" space on hard drives. I'm using KVM virtualization on my hosts and let's say i create an LVM volume for my linux VM, then install it properly, shut it down and take LVM snapshot of it. Basically i've just cloned it (LVM2 snapshots are

fruit:resource=stream on ZFS safety?
Hello all, Anyone have experience with using fruit:resource=stream on a ZFS filesystem? fruit:resource=stream is said to be experimental in man page, so I imagine there aren't many people using / testing it. Thanks! Chad.

gecko-libs dependency resurfaces
In doing an update of centos 5.2 this morning, I observed that the old gecko-libs dependency issue caused yum update to fail because it was required by nspluginwrapper (x64_86), devhelp, yelm and firefox. Also, a firefox (x64_86) showed the red hat splash screen rather than centos. Manual installation of affected rpms using --nodeps (I don't advise this) did not apear to impair the

Use rsync's checksums to deduplicate across backups
I apologize if this has already been discussed before, but as of yet I have been unable to find any info on the topic. I have a very simple (and common) disk based backup system using rsync, hard links, and a little bit of perl to glue it together. Remote machines are backed up regularly using hardlinks across each snapshot to reduce disk usage. Recently I learned that rsync does a

Communicating with VM before Network is configured.

Memory usage bar plot
Hi, I haven't tried the code yet. Is there a way to parse this data using R and create bar plots so that each program's 'RAM used' figures are grouped together. So 'uuidd' bars will be together. The data will have about 50 sets. So if there are 100 processes each will have about 50 bars. What is the recommended way to graph these big barplots ? I am looking
