Problem in e2fsck ? read error in journal inode
Hi I'm experiencing some problems on a harddisk (it has crashed for no known reason), and in pursuit of getting some of the data out of the disk I'm learning to use the e2fs progs package. Origianlly I used version 1.38, but after experiencing segfaults in e2fsck -which now is solved, I upgraded to 1.39, but now I have hit another problem (on another partition): The partition was

[Fwd: e2fsck Segmentation Fault]
Hi, Somehow I've managed to get e2fsck to seg fault.. The filesystem in question started acting very strangely (e.g. filenames changing from music to MuSiC etc) so I rebooted, and since when fsck has crashed every time it has been run. I'm not really sure what any of this means, so I didn't know what debugging output to include, but below is the output of e2fsck. (I would have

fixing a corrupt /dev/hdar .. debugfs assistance...
I used ddrescue to copy /dev/md1 to a disk of sufficient size, and re-ran e2fsck, and still get the error message that there's no root file system (I've tried most every superblock): # fsck -y -b 7962624 /dev/sdf fsck 1.36 (05-Feb-2005) e2fsck 1.36 (05-Feb-2005) Superblock has a bad ext3 journal (inode 8). ext3 + fs > 2Tbyte
Hi list this is actually a problem on a debian system but I thought you might be interested to hear of it and perhaps can offer some help. I have a woody box (dell pe750, dual cpu) running a kernel from backports.org (debian 'testing' packages built on a 'stable' box). The kernel version is 2.6.7-1.backports.org.1. This host is hooked up to an Apple Xserve RAID with a 2.3Tbyte

EXT3-fs: invalid journal inode.

I tried to run e2fsck and it failed (The output can be seen below). If anyone has any suggestions on how I can restore

Can't mount /home anymore

The mount command for my /home gives me the following output: # mount /dev/sda6 /mnt/tmp/ mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda6, missing codepage or other error In some cases useful info

e2fsck: bad magic number in super-block
Hi, I'm on kernel 2.14.13-ac8 running Redhat 7.1. I've successfully converted all my file system to ext3 and is working fine for a couple of weeks. However, I did a silly thing when I e2fsck (version 1.23) an ext3 /home partiction without umounting it. Now, I believe my partiton super-block is corrupted and the system wasn't able to mount /home. I tried as suggested to do a e2fsck -b

Harddisk gone bad
Hi all, I know this is the EXT3 list, and my problem is with an EXT2 filesys, but I cannot seem to find a more suitable list on this server, and I have seen a lot of knowledge go by on this list and in the archives, so I thought I'd give it a try anyway... Here goes nothing: I am in a terrible problem: My data disk on my Linux server has gone bad, with approx 18 GB of data on it, and I

whoops, corrupted my filesystem
Hi all- I corrupted my filesystem by not doing a RTFM first... I got an automated email that the process monitoring the SMART data from my hard drive detected a bad sector. Not thinking (or RTFMing), I did a fsck on my partition- which is the main partition. Now it appears that I've ruined the superblock. I am running Fedora Core 6. I am booting off the Fedora Core 6 Rescue CD in

corrupted FS!
I have an apple Xserve RAID attached to a Linux Box, serving one Raided LUN of 2500Gigs, it was functional until the box crashed. When I hard booted it, even though it mounted the FS, I've been unable to access it. Cd-ing to any of its directories gives "Input/Output error". The ls ?la on the FS shows "?" for every field with no permission information. The /var/log/messages

One of my servers wont boot today
Hi All, One of my servers upon a restart today comes up with an error checking filesystems: fsck.ext3: no such file or directory while trying to open /dev/VolGroup-1/Logvol00. /dev/VolGroup-1/LogVol00. The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2 filesystem. If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2 filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else), then

Resizing a Xen DomU disk image
Hello Mailing List! A quick question. Has anyone gotten a resize (in my case grown) a Xen DomU disk image? Here is the procedure I have followed: 1. Install a DomU using virt-install Customize xvda to be all one partition ext3 2. On Dom0: dd if=/dev/zero bs=1G count=1 >> <my_disk_image> ll -h (Image is now 1GB larger) xm create <DomU> On DomU: df -h (Size has not

2.6.22-rc1 killed my ext3 filesystem cleanly unmounted
Hi, I just tried the 2.6.22-r1 candidate to test whether some bug I have hit in the past still exists. I did use 2.6.20.6 so far. So, I have cleanly rebooted to use the new kernel, after the machine came up I tried to mess with the bug, and had to reboot again to play with kernel commandline parameters. Unfortunately, on the next reboot fsck was schedules on my filesystem after 38 clean
