Rprofile not executed in R 2.2.0 alpha for Windows
Dear list members (esp. Duncan),
I've run into the following curious problem with Version 2.2.0 alpha for
Windows: Options in the Profile file in R's etc directory don't appear to be
set. (I habitually uncomment options(chmhelp=TRUE), to no effect in this
case.) As far as I can see, the only thing non-standard about my
installation is that I put R 2.2.0 alpha under c:\R rather than

R-1.0.0 on alpha/osf1 memory glitch (PR#490)
Digital Alpha (various), Digital UNIX V4.0[EF], R-1.0.0, gcc, f77
When using batch mode with the save option, an error message is issued.
However [I have just discovered that] it appears that the operation
does complete, i.e. the .RData file is saved successfully. The main
problem is that the return code is non-zero (and so it is impossible to
distinguish this "non-error" from some

Samba 2.2 alpha3 released
Hi all,
I have just released the fourth alpha snapshot
of what will become Samba 2.2.0.
It's available from the usual ftp sites, in the alpha
directory as :
<ftp mirror>:/pub/samba/alpha/samba-2.2.0-alpha3.tar.gz
If people could test this snapshot out and provide feedback
about what is broken and let the lists know that would help.
The problem acting as a PDC for

I have posted this question to the list today already, but from a reply, I

Building R-alpha with ATLAS libraries?
I'm trying to build R-alpha using the ATLAS libraries as described in
the R-admin manual, section A.3.1.1 (BLAS) and A.3.2 (LAPACK). I built
ATLAS with LAPACK as described in the ATLAS documentation, and the
ATLAS version is the latest, 3.9.10. The platform is openSUSE 11.1
x86_64 with GCC 4.3.2.
"configure" is finding the ATLAS BLAS all right, but it is not finding
the ATLAS

R configure.in makes bad alpha assumptions (PR#1676)
Hi,
I was looking at configure.in for R-1.4.1 and in the
case "${host_cpu}" in
part under alpha CPU's, the switch of -mieee for g77 and -fpe3 otherwise
is an OSF specific, not alpha specific issue. In particular, if someone
used f2c-f77 (shell script which emulates a fortran compiler with f2c and
the c compiler), they'd get the broken -fpe3. I'd probably either test

configure doesn't accept f77 on alpha (PR#419)
Full_Name: Albrecht Gebhardt
Version: 0.99.0
OS: alpha, osf4.0
Submission from: (NULL) (143.205.180.40)
configure stops when checking if cc and f77 "agree on int and double".
This is only due to a linking problem (linking fortran object with cc without
for_main.o complains about unreloved dependency to main.
Solution: add -expect_unresolved main to th linking step, see patch below

configure error on alpha (PR#806)
Hi,
I've found that the default options of gcc and g77 on alpha produce an
executable that suffers from floating exceptions. There seems to be a
problem with the configure scripts that prevents the --with-f77 option
working correctly. The configure script tests that f77 is running by
attempting to compile and link a dummy program - the link step seems
broken on the alpha (it doesn't like

plot(<lm>): new behavior in R-2.2.0 alpha
As some of you R-devel readers may know, the plot() method for
"lm" objects is based in large parts on contributions by John
Maindonald, subsequently "massaged" by me and other R-core
members.
In the statistics litterature on applied regression, people have
had diverse oppinions on what (and how many!) plots should be
used for goodness-of-fit / residual diagnostics, and to my

Alpha, configure and (brain dead) bash?
System: Alpha Tru64 5.1a, openssh 3.4p1 and bash 2.04.
Problem: when configure comes to the test to find xauth, it is not able to
find it in /usr/bin/X11. This path is listed as one to test while looking
for xauth. It is of course found if I define the exact path with
--with-xauth.
Any one good with configure and bash to help me get this automatically
found?
Thanks in advance,
Keith

configure patch for Alpha/Tru64 Unix 5.1
I had to apply this patch to configure.in to get configure to run on
Tru64 Unix on Alpha. The RSA test forgot to reset $LIBS.
(The compile stopped with missing "zlib.h". I'll send more patches if
required. :-)
