Need mount -t smbfs to be world/group writable & not only root
Hi,
Need some pointers.
Currently using
mount -t smbfs -o username=xxx,pasword=xxx //servername/sharename /mnt/share
Since I can only mount as root, (not in /etc/fstab)
sudo mount -t smbfs -o username=xxx,pasword=xxx //servername/sharename
/mnt/share
Problem here is.. I can't get group or world writeable permission on the
share. It's a NTFS share but that is not a problem. I can

Samba As PDC: Wrong Workgroup?
Hi There,
I've searched and searched. Then searched some more. Came up with
nothing. So here I am.
I installed Samba as a PDC as per the HowTo, here:
http://www.tiltingatlinux.com/2014/04/basic-samba4-domain-controler-on-ubuntu.html
Thing is: The workgroup isn't coming out right:
$ smbclient -L localhost -U%
Domain=[MYDOMAIN] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 4.1.6-Ubuntu]

Browsing a workgroup in another subnet
I'm trying to determine if the global configuration options for remote
announce and remote browse sync work for browsing a different workgroup
in a different subnet. In the books I have, it just talks about using
these options to span the same workgroup across two subnets.
In our situation, for example, I have two different workgroups (WG1 -
10.50.50.1 and WG2 - 10.100.50.1). Each of these

windows clients can't see workgroup at all
I'm trying to troubleshoot a new samba setup on a tiny network, and I'm
clearly missing something. I'm running Samba 3.0.22 on Ubuntu Linux.
When I first set it up, it seemed to go so smoothly. I changed all the
workstations to the same workgroup (RABNETWORK) and they could see each
other and the server, but they couldn't open anything on the server. I don't
really understand

Can connect directly, but not browse samba server from Windows Workgroup network
Dear Samba gurus,
I have a Fedora 8 linux server, running samba 3.0.28a-0.fc8. I am
doing the simplest thing of all - exposing a public read-only share
within MS Workgroup environment. My server has a fixed local IP
address (192.168.1.200) and it's on the same subnet as the rest of the
machines. The server and machines are connected to a 24 port CISCO
switch.
My problem is that I can

WinXP SP2 machines disappear from the workgroup controlled by Samba
Hi,
I have a problem which I couldn't solve myself thus decided to ask here. My
setup is rather basic. There are over 20 PCs in the network, most of them
running WinXP Home SP2 and WinXP Pro SP2, a few Windows 98 SE and the Linux
(Debian) server running samba 3.0.7(-1). They all are in the same subnet.
Windows clients and samba are configured to participate in the same
workgroup. WINS is

Problem using --fuzzy with --*-dest flags
Hi,
I'm trying to get the --fuzzy option to work with --compare-dest with rsync
3.1.0.
I'm testing with two files. "C_VOL-b001-i3818.spi" and
"C_VOL-b001-i3816.spi" are copies of one another, but I've modified the
latter a bit with a hex editor as a test. The modified date is still the
same.
This works for me (fuzzy is utilized against the 3816 test file):

cifs reading Samba mounted share...permissions error
I have a Samba 3.0.23a-1.fc5.1 configured on a Fedora 5 server. It's
joined to an Active Directory 2003 domain controller using Winbind, etc.
I'm able to connect from various workstations using active directory
user accounts/credentials just fine to shares on this server,
permissions work, and all is well. I'm guessing this is set up
correctly.
However, from another Fedora 5 server,
