Intermittent failure
Hello. I'm in need of some help to shed some light on a strange problem. The box is running Samba 4.1.7 on FreeBSD 9.2/amd64 and I suspect (though I'm not sure) all troubles started after the upgrade from 4.1.6. The setup is quite simple: no AD, no LDAP, only one server. A command as simple as "smbclient -U user //SERVER/SHARE", if fired up several times in a row on the

Clearcase, Samba, and mnode values
Hi all -- I recently temporarily deployed an upgraded Clearcase server (7.1.2.3) on 64 bit RHEL 5.6. With it I was using Redhat's release of Samba for that version of the OS -- 3.0.33. The system has 32 GB of memory and within 12 hours, it would be down into swap. Maximum active licenses used is 36 but a more typical load is 18-25 users having a Clearcase license at once. Clearcase

Samba 3.4.9 net rpc shutdown and XP Domain client
Hi @all, this is an very old problem, posted the first time 2005 to samba-testers at samba.org: If I have a Domain client with WinXP, which is part of a domain and using this client, if the PDC is not available and want to remote shut down this client with the net tool from other servers, then this is not possible, because net tries to authenticate against the PDC: testeis # net -d3 -S

wins: no nmblookup on 192.168.1.255 but 192.168.1.2
Hi, here is a client computer and a server computer (Debian Wheezy, armel, samba Version 3.6.6, IP address: 192.168.1.2, Name: xyz). Problem: wins doesn't answer nmblookups by the client on the broadcast address: client$ nmblookup -S xyz querying xyz on 192.168.1.255 name_query failed to find name xyz Why is that so? How to fix this? When I specify the the server IP I do get an answer:

wbinfo -U id gives different users on same dc
Sure there is, Install debian, follow my howto and you will have success. Just, your using an .local domain, and thats a reserved name for apples mDNS (zeroconf) And should not be used. ( same for .lan ) https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/FAQ#Can_I_Use_the_.local_Top-level_Domain_for_My_AD_DNS_Zone.3F So the info is good, thats not the problem, finding it, is. MAX_OPEN_FILES - message & changeing
Nguyen Cao Dat asked about this: ERROR! Out of file structures - perhaps increase MAX_OPEN_FILES? As it happens I have started getting them too - on a PC Application server - the cause seems to be lots of files needed to be open to run applications - Lotus apps seems to be a particular culprit, but experiments indicate that even opening help on Microsoft Word opens 13 files! Samba 4 AD - Samba Fails to Start, hdb_samba4_create_kdc (setup KDC database) failed
Hello to the Samba Mailing List, This is my first post, so please, should I commit any faux pas, nudge me in the right direction and I will adjust accordingly. I'm experiencing a complete failure of the PDC in a Samba 4 AD Domain I've deployed for a client. Samba failed a few days ago and I've been unable to resolve the issue on my own. Google searches are leading me in circles,

samba and clearcase (PR#7829)
Hi Jeremy, thanks for the tip but ...(there's always a but) if I do this (increase MAX_OPEN_FILES to 1024), I get an error in log.smb: Can't create or use IPC area. Error was File exists I'm using FAST_SHARE_MODES to compile samba. Does this take up too much space or is there something else wrong? Shutting down WinXP Pro instance
Recently I set up a PDC (Fedora 12 - I'm using this for a specific reason) using Samba 3.4.9 and OpenLDAP 2.4.19; I named my domain ATHOME. I am trying to figure out how to shut down WinXP Pro remotely and I'm not having any luck. Up to this point I have tried the following: - I used ATHOME\root which is the admin acct I used to join XP to my domain. I added ATHOME\root to my

I had to increase the MAX_OPEN_FILES Parameter in "local.h". Since then i get the error in the logfile: Can't create or use IPC area. Error was File exists. Are there any solutions for this problem? I found similar questions but no answers in the digests. Olaf Dreyer
