This should fix the problem and will be in the next release. Regards, Jeremy Allison, Samba

2.0.7: inherit permissions = yes breaks setting read-only on files
Hi, While testing the upgrade from 2.0.6 to 2.0.7 I found some kind of misbehaviour of inherit permissions. It was already known that the SGID bit on directories is only useable with "inherit permissions = yes". Most of my shares depend heavily on this (unix) feature. Today I found out I cannot change a file attribute to read-only from NT while "inherit permissions" is set

Next stable version of Samba.
Hi all, I'd like to ask to make a version number change for the next stable release. Currently we're planning to release something we're planning to call 2.0.8. However, what I'm actually busyly creating in the CVS tree is HEAD minus vfs and dfs and some of the TNG mods. This is a very big change to call 2.0.8, which implies a minor rev. on 2.0.7. Now I still want to

2.2 release imminent.
Well, as Andrew shouted at me again this weekend it's getting to be about that time.... :-) :-). Yep, we're thinking we should do an official 2.2 Samba release early next week, so if you have anything you can't live with, now would be a good time to tell us.... :-). It's been gestating longer than an elephant, so it's really time to let it out into the world and do its own

memdisk image problems on shuttle hardware
hpa, Seeing your post about 3.71, I wanted to get a message out even though I don't have the stats right now. I am having a problem with memdisk with a lot of shuttle computers, but also affects a variety of other hardware (low though, 5%? less?). The image that I can most reliably test against is the Hitachi Drive fitness Test.

Linux/NIS+
Hello, I'm having a problem configuring samba (2.0.5a) on a Linux system using NIS+ as the password system. Samba complains that it cannot find the smbpasswd file, which is not surprising as I'm not using one. I tried 'smb password file = passwd.org_dir' that sort of worked, except that it creates a directory called passwd.org_dir from whatever directory I ran the smbd from.

Samba pre-2.0.7 snapshot available.
I have made a tarball snapshot of Samba pre-2.0.7 available at : ftp://ftp.samba.org/pub/samba/alpha/samba-2.0.7pre1.tar.gz The WHATSNEW.txt file is not yet updated with the list of bugfixes, although the man pages should be up to date with the new options. I'm making this pre1 snapshot available so people can test that this release builds correctly on their systems and can get some

Possible bug in 2.0.7?
Hi. I'm setting up a Linux server (VA Linux version of Red Hat 6.2, kernel 2.2.14), and I've installed Samba 2.0.7 from the rpm samba-2.0.7-20000425.i386.rpm, packager John H Terpstra [Samba Team], build date Wed Apr 26 02:46:34 GMT 2000. My smb.conf file, and a portion of the log file, are at the end of this message. I'm trying to replace a NetWare server, which co-exists with an

Want to create a DOS network boot disk
For some time now, I have been tring to create a DOS network boot disk that I can connect to linux samba server by 'net use'. My samba server has been running fine and I connect Win9x clients (no password encryption) with no problems. I created a network dos disk and I am able to connect to a Win9x share with no problems, but when I try to connect to the smb server, I get rejected for

Auto location of domain controllers.
Hi all, FYI: I got the auto location of domain controllers with security = domain coded up, working and tested and will be putting it into the 2.0.6 release. To use it just change the password server= line to be : password server = * Someone (I can't remember who) was requiring this functionality.... Cheers, Jeremy Allison, Samba Team. --

Centos 5 problems on Shuttle XPC
Hi, does somebody else experience booting problems after normal installation on SD32G2 based Shuttle systems. A CentOS 5.0 installation can be performed without any problems but after the first reboot the systems are just stopping the boot process after the grub is searching for the kernel. The last line is some- thing like: [ Linux-initrd @ 0x37db8000, 0x237858 bytes]. We tried already the
