btrieve - a neverending story
Hello out there,
recently I posted a trouble report about my Samba/btrieve
experience.
I have encountered the worst case scenario - corrupt databases...
I had a brief correspondency with Dave Collier-Brown (whose book
on Samba can't be praised enough) about this, in which he told me
that working under the same login a) network-wide and b)
application-wide could lead to such corrpution.

FreeBSD in general
Hi there guys... I've been watching the list for a while, had a quick
question.
I work for a company (Turtle Beach) that makes a product that takes MP3
files that reside on your PC or Network Attached Storage, and lets you play
them anywhere else in your home. (From your stereo for example.)
Anyway, we've added basic MP3 streaming support (and have now gone to
external beta) that

liveice problem
Hello everybody...
I figure this is not exactly an icecast question, but maybe
someone might be able to help.
Icecast runs nicely as far as I can see, and so does liveice,
apart from the fact I don't get any input signal fed into it. I
think it's due to the fact it expects the signal on line in by
default and the souncard only has a mic in. So I tried to use
the built in mixer mode,

FreeBSD in general
Hello everyone,
I am very tempted to try and use icecast as the weapon of choice
to realize a live audio stream for the radio station I work for.
Now, the last time I tried the FreeBSD port of Icecast, it
immediately consumed something like 95% CPU time, even without
any client connected. I think someone else reported that
problem, but I somehow lost track of the issue - has this been

Dos Btrieve Windows 98 and Samba 4.0
?We are trying to migrate a Dos based btrieve application from Windows NT
to Samba 4?.1.6-Ubuntu. Running one client works, running more that one
client do not work.
I searched Google and there are many historic pages about issues related to
the btrieve / Samba combination.
Are there stable solutions of this issue?
Kind Regards

file locking with win apps
Hello there,
I have a serious file locking problem with samba on a RH6 based Linux
machine.
>From the exported share a database files are being requested. Problem
is, only one client can access these - and even only one client can
initialize the database query engine, which is btrieve 6.15 workstation
engine.
The same problem affects .doc files. If one client has an open document,
the file is

Ruby fun with MegaMillions
I thought I would write a lottery number generator since I have not had any
luck winning the big jackpot - http://megamillions.com/. So far, after over
1.2 million tries, I still have not hit all the numbers from yesterday: 2,
17, 22, 32, 51, 35 (last one is the mega ball).
Fun little project that and I thought others would be interested. Let me
know if you have a cleaner implementation in mind.

I seem to have a "share" problem with an app, while it is running I

It is serving for a "distributed" (serves three workstations)

Samba 2.0.6 and Windows 95 logon
Hello
I have just updated from Samba 2.0.5 to 2.0.6, and have found that the path
to the user profile does not seem to work properly.
I am using:
Win95 OSR2 on PCs
Solaris 2.5.1 on a Sun Ultra 2/200
Samba 2.0.6 (compiled with gcc 2.7.2)
My smb.conf file includes the following lines:
Domain logons = yes
Logon script = mount.bat
Logon home = \\%N\%U
Logon path = \\%N\%U\winapps\win95

PXE-capable NIC listing?
Trey,
The Compaq NC7770 PCI-X Gigabit Server Adapter supports PXE:
http://www.compaq.com/products/servers/networking/NC7770/
This NIC will be available next month. Also, our strategy is to support PXE on all ProLiant server embedded NICs (10/100/1000) beginning with G2 (generation2) models. Also, most existing DL and all BL servers currently support PXE on their embedded (10/100) NICs. Let

Setup.exe Hides Dialogues
I'm new on here, so I hope this has not been answered too many times
already. I searched the knowledge base at the Wine site without finding
a solution.
I just switched from Mandrake to Lindows, which seems to have a capable
version of Wine running. However, with two Winapps I've tried to
install, the initial setup window (fullscreen, borderless, no controls)
completely hides the

Problems running apps from Samba 2.0.0 share on NT 4.0
Ever since I upgraded from Samba 1.9.18 to 2.0.0, I've been
having problems with applications started from a Samba share dying
silently, or with an Illegal Instruction message, on NT 4.0
Workstation. Since the only configuration change has been the Samba
upgrade, that would seem to be the orgin of the problem. Below is my
smb.conf file, in case I have something configured (or not configured)

Group Mapping in MySQL backend
Hi,
are there any plans to add some support for storing not only user
information, but also group mappings in the MySQL passdb backend? Or are
there problems I'm not aware of why this cannot be done?
And - by the way - is there any reason why pdb_mysql should not (yet) be
used in larger installations (several hundert clients), or why several
servers shouldn't share one common

please suggest reading on Linux memory management
Hey folks,
This is sort of a follow up to my email yesterday about memory leaks.
I'd found some really good reading material in my hour or so of
googling prior to sending that email. Wondering if anyone can
recommend good reading on the topic - including raw facts like this
jackpot I seem to have hit upon (

OpenGL causes assertion failure.
Hello,
I've done all the 'Right Things(tm)' in order to get opengl to
work under wine.
Here's my checklist:
-1- I checked the proper working of libGL.so
gears runs just nicely under linux
-2- I retrieved the latest and greatest wine src from CVS
-3- I did a ./configure --enable-opengl
-4- Built the sources, installed the binaries.
-5- Tried dll configs
