Changing SWAT user?
I just loaded Mandrake 7.1 and Samba with Webmin. I can get into Webmin and make changes to the Samba server, but I'm not able to get smbd or nmbd running. When I try to get into SWAT to make changes it keeps reverting back to my login which does not allow me to make changes. Is there a way to reset this? Also, any ideas on why smdb and smdb is not running? (go easy on me. I'm new to

SWAT login - is password entry secure?
Samba group members, Is the password that I specify when logging into SWAT handled securely? I'd like to use the Samba Web Administration Tool (SWAT) to create and administer Samba "shares" that will be used by our users of ClearCase on Windows. That requires that I log in to the Samba host as "root". I access SWAT via Internet Explorer (from any machine) buy

So i've done a few hacks in swat.c Nothing much, essentialy i've adapted the interface and removed the other stuff. I don't have password sync between Samba and the system, because i want to let my users have separate passwords. Well...

Swat documentation broken
Just installed samba-3.0.0beta1 and trying to use swat. When clicked on help on a particular paramenter (any one), a new window pops up and supposingly it will load smb.conf.5.html and then jumps to the label of the parameter. But now it doesn't work. smb.conf.5.html is no longer complete. Checked under docs/docbook/smbdotconf and found that smb.conf.5.xml supposingly should include files

RE: Samba newbie question... (SWAT)
So John, are you the "SWAT guru" for Samba? I like the idea of having an expert for each area of Samba. Just a thought - if you are looking for further feedback regarding SWAT, you may want to post a message to the Samba forum on tek-tips website. (goto www.tek-tips.com and search for forum called "Andrew Tridgell : Samba") There are currently over 800 members of the

Trouble with root password in SWAT
I have been kind of fortunate in adjusting my SWAT information, and now can reach the SWAT3 interface through port 902 (thanks!), but now I have an even more interesting snag. Konqueror and Mozilla, when going to localhost:902 (what I set SWAT3 to respond to), will prompt a login box. The site is called "SWAT at localhost". I put in the root username, and the root password. It then

Multiple problems: installing SWAT, no longer access to a restored (after deletion) share, ACL inheritance
I'm a job trainee, very new to Linux and Samba and was asked to set up a server based on OpenSUSE and Samba. The idea is not to make a production server but to investigate how and how well this works (the company is Windows exclusive at the moment) I got as far as properly installing Linux and Samba 3 with the help of the guides on the OpenSUSE website. But there are a few things that still

SWAT 'Help' problem...
Hi all, I'm having trouble with the help in SWAT... If I am using Netscape (4.76) for SWAT, everytime I click on 'Help' for one of the options, it opens the Main help file, and jumps all the way to the bottom, instead of jumping to the appropriate section. If I am using Mozilla (0.8), it opens at the top, then the 'Sending request to localhost' progress bar in the bottom
