rsync script from homepage: trouble
Hello,
I'm new to this and am trying to modify the "backup to a central backup
server with 7 day incremental" script from
http://samba.anu.edu.au/rsync/examples.html to suit my situation.
I have ended up with the script attached below and when running it from
command line I get these errors:
rsync error: syntax or usage error (code 1) at main.c(726)
and a plethora of this

Annoying winbind problem solved
I have been on the web for hours reading email postings about WINDBIND.
Here is the scenario. Samba 2.27 on Redhat 8, installed via the redhat
RPMs. the first interesting note was that there is no samba-winbind rpm.
It is a part of the samba-common.rpm in redhat. I have been using Samba
as a file server for quite some time. And 100% of my issues with it stem
from permission problems. So I heard

Need help to rsynch the directory structure only excluding the files from remote to local.
Hi Tim,
I tried using the rsync like how you specified in your example and it
worked fine. But when I tried it between my UNIX box and a remote
server the command would just not complete and give any output
whatsoever.
This is how I did it:
rsync -av --include '*/' --exclude '*' tashaikh@remotebox:/dw/etl/home/
prod/log/ /export/home/tashaikh/auto/log
In the above I need to copy

samba-2.0.0alpha1
I've just released samba-2.0.0alpha1. I spoke to Jeremy about starting
to do automatic weekly alpha releases. He thought it was OK but asked
me to wait till next week. I thought "it's already next week in
Australia" so I did a release now :)

rsync over ssh - lockups with pipe()
For a couple of years people have been reporting intermittent problems
with rsync over ssh freezing during a large transfer (typically
several GB). I have now gotten to the bottom of these problems, and
have written a small test program which demonstrates a deadlock in
sshd when doing large bi-directional transfers. Luckily the problem is
easily solved by modifying sshd to use socketpair() instead

Back-up differences. Raspberry Pi and Fedora
I am using the 'backup to a central backup server with 7 day
incremental' example to archive three separate computers to identically
configured (apart from name) shares on a Western Digital 'MyBookLive'
NAS which has rsync enabled. The backup from two Raspberry Pi Computers
operates without a problem but the backup from a Fedora 32 computer
fails with an 'unknown module

This is a patch release which contains fixes to all the problems
which have been reported over the last month.
Most importantly: OpenSSL-0.9.5 has exposed a bug in RSA key
generation on systems which lack a /dev/random (Solaris, HPUX,
SCO). On such systems this port was not properly initialising
OpenSSL's entropy pool. This results in lower

state of the rsync nation? (revisited 6/2003 from 11/2000)
I'm interested in these very questions (librsync-rsync relationship,
remaining limitations of rsync, active prospects for ground-up rewrites),
Google searches for rsync info have proved a little too vague due to the
programs ubiquity. Much has certainly changed since this was written,
could some people with knowledge in these areas could update martin's
response for the state of rsync,

need mirrors for samba.anu.edu.au
The department of computer science at ANU is looking at networking
costs. One big cost is the network traffic charges for
samba.anu.edu.au. Currently it is costing about $1000 per month in
international traffic charges (at 20c/meg). Note that we only pay for
incoming data.
To try and reduce the cost we are going to need to put in a mirror of
the Samba web pages and ftp site in the US. I'm

Trouble with access to sysvol share using SMB2 or SMB3 protocol on client PC
Hi, guys.
I have an issue with accessing to my sysvol share with smb2 or smb3
clients. I have an issue with editing my Group Policy from Windows
7,8,8.1,10 or Windows Server 2012 clients with RSAT installed and
everything works fine when I edit group policy from Windows XP machine.
I disable SMB2 & SMB3 in my Windows server machine and it fix the problem,
but is it a correct workaround for my

Nbfw, Cross-subnet browsing
Hi,
I'm currently using the nbfw (netbios forwarder - http://nbfw.sourceforge.net/)
patch with samba on a linux masquerading firewall/router. It works
pretty well.
I was wondering if there was plan to include this patch in samba (or TNG)
I was also wondering if there was any way to use this as a mean to do
cross-subnet browsing efficient.
The paradox is that browsing works better between a

relationship counselling for debian and rsync
I heard Debian's trying to freeze soon. I have a few points about
rsync's Debian package.
I'll see what I can do to close some Debian/rsync bugs. Fortunately
some of the bad ones seem to be already addressed in our regular
tarballs.
It would be pretty cool if I could be automatically cc'd on Debian bug
reports about rsync, if the BTS supports that.

NT & Win98 slow copies
Howdy all:
For those who are curious (eg, Peter de Groot
<pdgtech@wantree.com.au>) here are the (I think) relevant posts
from recent samba digests concerning win98 and or NT performance
problems copying files between local drives and samba shares. It
looks like there should be some new options to play with in the
next samba release. Could Jeremy or Andrew confirm?
