LARGE_SMB_OFF_T problem
Hi all, I have been porting samba-3.0.36 version to one MIPS CPU environment. Firstly I encounterd the problem that the file greater than 4G size can't be size-shown correctly at Windows XP file manager, and when I tried to download/upload the large file (>4G) from samba server, it always failed. I investigated the source code and found LARGE_SMB_OFF_T option (in header file

2.2.5 "--with-lockdir" problem?
I have executed ./configure --with-lockdir=/var/lock/samba and get a proper Makefile with LOCKDIR = /var/lock/samba The trouble is strings ./usr/sbin/smbd | grep /var/lock reports /var/lock not the expected /var/lock/samba! There are no entries for "lock dir" or "lock directory" in smb.conf, and true to fashion testparm -s | grep "lock dir"

2.2.7a on MacOS X 10.2.2 giving "failed to set gid" error
I have been trying to get 2.2.7a to work on my Mac running 10.2.2. The configure, compile and install went through fine except for a few warnings. When I attempt to connect to the machine, I get the following errors: [2002/12/17 16:05:14, 0] lib/util_sec.c:assert_gid(111) Failed to set gid privileges to (0,99) now set to (99,99) uid=(0,0) [2002/12/17 16:05:14, 0] lib/util.c:smb_panic(1094)

BUG?: 2.2.8a, missing header files for source/passdb/pass_check.c
I'm trying to compile in DFS with the --with-dfs option. There is an #ifdef WITH_DFS and following that, is some header files that are referenced that I can't seem to find any where. Is this a bug, or is this because my operating system doesn't have these files? I'm running OpenBSD 3.4. Here is the first portion of config.status: #! /bin/sh # Generated automatically by

Migrating from packages to source
I thought I'd put this together for those who might find it useful : The scenario : Running version of samba less than the current version that was provided by the distribution. Want to play with new features or just upgrade a running system. The solution : Download the source CD for your distribution. - A big download I know - but you could buy it from cheeplinux/cheepbytes etc

a little issue with ADS
Hello Everyone, I must extend my THANK YOU for such fantastic work!, as well as this great resource. I've tried fiddling with AD and samba 3.0 alpha23 as well as a CVS checkout dated APR-16-03. Below are the relevant(Hopefully:)) items of my config. Once I can get a tgt and initial ticket I think I'll be O.K. I was hoping someone on this list could point out a gotcha :). TIA, Jesse.

locks cooperating with a server side process
Good day folks, I'm using Samba 2.2.8a [1] on Slackware 9.1 with 2000/XP clients. I'm attempting to have a process by which a user drags a file using Windows Explorer into a share. On the server side, I have a unix process that polls the directory for new files and then reads them and deletes them. I'm having a problem where I can gain the lock but the process is still writing to

Can't configure Samba with Kerberos support
I'm trying to compile Samba 3.0.4 with Active Directory support on OpenBSD 3.5, using the native Kerberos libraries (which happens to be Heimdal 0.6). Unfortunately, ./configure isn't working right. I think i'm missing a switch or something. If anyone can help me figure out what the problem is, i would really appreciate it. First a bit of info on OpenBSD's Kerberos path

read-only problem in 3.0.0
We have a problem with shares that we would like to keep read-only for some users; it worked with 2.2.8a, but with 3.0.0 there is this odd behaviour: Users with read-only privilege can browse the files, can copy them out of the share (eg to their own hard disks) and open the copies, and can open the files in situ with Notepad; but if they try to open files in the share with Excel, for example, or

samba-2.2.5 -- a minor "make install" problem and 2 suggestions
Hi, I would like to ask you to consider the attached patch for inclusion into the next samba release. The patch addresses the following three points: 1. 'make install' with VPATH fails at one point ( $(srcdir)/script/findsmb vs. script/findsmb ) 2. support for 'make DESTDIR=<somewhere> install' (e.g. to build a binary package) 3. support for 'configure

WIN40 printer driver on Solaris not being installed?
I am having problems with the driver installation for WIN40 (9x machines) in Samba 2.2.5 / Samba 2.2.6pre2 on a Solaris 8 machine. I build binary packages for both debian and solaris environments. For debian 2.2.5, I use the 2.2.5 source with the printing patch provided by Jerry Carter. I use the packaging/Debian/debian systems to build and package the source. For Solaris I use the

service terminated unexpectedly on WinXP clients with log level = 1
I am running Samba 3.0-beta2 as PDC on OpenBSD 3.3. I have Windows XP clients that I need to serve I have reproduced this issue on both of them. Unfortunately when they boot, several services that get eventID's 7031 and 7034, they are both "The [service name] service terminated unexpectedly". After I log in, I can start the services and it seems fine. It only does this when

Where is the tdbsam password database file?
I'm curious to know where the tdbsam password database file is kept on my Fedora 7 system. Using the unmodified smb.conf file that shipped with Fedora 7, I've enabled users using smbpasswd, and successfully accessed shares. I just can't figure out where the password database is located: [root@box ~]# service smb start [root@box ~]# setsebool samba_enable_home_dirs on [root@box ~]#

samba with ADS. winbindd ignore for user authentication
Hello, I'm trying to set up samba using ADS for authentication. I can successfully join the samba machine to the domain. Windows hosts can "see" the samba machine. After successfully joining, doing: # wbinfo -u shows me ADS-defined users. Same goes for groups. However, when I try and assign one of those users ownership of a file, I get: # chown user1 /tmp/test chown: test1:

force group broken in 3.0.14?
I've got some problems with file access control on a linux-server with samba 3.0.14a compiled from a src-rpm. This is the method I've been using for the past 5-6 releases. It's a redhat 8.0 machine and the kernel version is 2.4.30. The problems seem to have appeared since upgrading from 3.0.13. Symptom 1: When using force group on a share, users from the two groups edb and
